  1. Good for you! It's always exiting when we moms can find a good deal!
  2. I'm sure that your friend didn't mean to exclude your son. She may have thought that they would all have fun together but since that wasn't the case I would try and gently bring it up when you work on setting up your next visit.
  3. I haven't checked out the link yet but I will. I was a really picky eater and have 2 kids that are really picky also. Thank heavens for V8 Vege. jc. if I didn't have that I wouldn't get any vegetables into one of my kids. I do make her eat carrots but it's a daily war that I don't always have energy for.
  4. I think the boys handled it as best as they could if it was a choice between that or peeing in their pants. It may be that the Youth Pastor had the wrong idea about what happened and was stressed. I guess you will have to access his behavior at a meeting. Maybe he's a power hungry nut or just someone who misunderstood the urgency of the situation + stress + feeling that he was needing to dole out punishment for a perceived offense to the girls. 1/2 hour of jumping jacks in the hot sun seems like he has some military style idea as to how to handle disipline. Too many movies perhaps.
  5. I also prefer the wood but I could see where the magnetic ones would be less frustrating if someone bumps the table. We have some foam puzzles and I think they wouldn't stay in place all that well.
  6. I think Sonlight has a time-line that they want students to use. That may help.
  7. Irene, you just made my night! Anyone who can crack me up while on double dose allergy meds while I continue to sneeze and rub my poor eyes for the thousandth time deserves applause! You know "Confessions of a Shopaholic" did quite well at the box office- I think "Confessions of a Cart-aholic" could really sell BIG TIME !!!
  8. Keep in mind that if you are only working 2 hrs per day that the gasoline that you use to transport yourself will eat away at your earnings in a big way compared to working more hours but say 2 days a week.
  9. There are some really wonderful programs out there but it may be that for now he just needs to enjoy some simple things like say making some modeling clay letters and talk about the sounds that it symbolizes. Then play with putting the clay letters and sounds together. Try not to stress, some kids are early with reading and some are 3rd grade+ before they put it together. I knew a woman years ago that was from Germany and she told our homeschool group that in Germany they did not start teaching the alphabet until 2nd grade-we were shocked! We asked her what they did in 1st grade and she replied that the read them stories and did fun art and science type projects. Apparently the philosophy was that since kids were not all ready to read at the same age and most couldn't "read to learn" even if they could read, they focused on the stuff that benefited everyone. Once they hit 3rd grade they were able to learn without much ado. Also, she said they went to school only in the morning (but also Saturdays). So it's interesting because despite the fact that Germany has out-ranked us we have been doing the complete opposite in our country.
