  1. Thanks so much for posting this. This might be exactly what we're looking for.
  2. My ninth grader took American Literature from Laurel Tree this year. I agee with those who posted above. Rebekah was wonderful. She gave such detailed feedback on the essays, which was a great help to my son. She just had a baby, so I believe she is limiting her class schedule to composition next year, but do check with her to confirm.
  3. We used this. I believe we called to order. I already had the book and was able to purchase just the online roadmap for around $30 for a year, I think. It was worthwhile. We loved the access to the audio book. If I remember correctly, I only purchased the teacher roadmap. I found the company to be quite willing to work with homeschoolers. Our experience was a couple of years ago, however. I hope that helps.
  4. Hi there, I don't know that I have ever posted on this board, because my son is in seventh grade. He is taking a few high school courses this year and next, so I have gained a lot from reading about the high school options available. My son has a bit of experience with programming and loves it. We might be interested in this if you are able to work it out. Thank you!! Chris chris@worthyplace.com
  5. Thank you for posting this! The WWII class might work out nicely for us later this year. :)
  6. Since I am a goofball, I just posted this on the K-8 board, but correcting ... These DVDs are $41.95 new, with free super saver shipping at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Elementary-Algebra-Media-Enhanced-Fourth/dp/0618753966 Ours came today. These are the Mosely DVDs, Houghton Mifflin.
  7. :tongue_smilie:Oops! I guess I posted this in the wrong thread. I should have gone to the high school board. Sorry!!!
  8. I know I haven't been in this discussion, but I ordered the Mosely Elementary and Intermediate Algebra set (13 discs with 52 hours of video) from Amazon. It was $41.95 (new) with free super saver shipping. I am so excited about this. It arrived today and I think this is going to be such a big help. This is the Houghton Mifflin version. http://www.amazon.com/Elementary-Algebra-Media-Enhanced-Fourth/dp/0618753966 I hope this helps someone. I ordered the text and student solutions manual used, but those have not arrived yet.
  9. I double-majored in history and political science (a loooong time ago), went on to law school and practiced law until my youngest child was born. Now I work as a freelance writer. We are in the middle of college visits for my daughter (a high school junior) and I have noticed that colleges are really doing a great job of pointing out career paths associated with particular departments. For instance, my daughter is interested in English and psychology. When we went to our first open house, professors were quick to list job opportunities associated with each of those majors. I think colleges are becoming more attuned to that, especially given the rising cost of a degree. I would suggest calling the history department chair or the career placement office at the college and asking questions.
  10. We are using this for Spanish. My son (sixth grade) loves it and is learning so much. It would be cost prohibitive, but our local library has a number of licenses through Rosetta Stone that allow library patrons to use it for free from home (online). I understand that many libraries do this, so it would be worth checking with yours.
  11. We are doing MUS Pre-Algebra and I can't say enough good things about it. Comparing the scope and sequence to other programs really sold me.
  12. We loved HOE. It does get more difficult, but I would say let her do it in the way that works best for her. I have a very kinesthetic learner and the pawns and number cubes worked great for him.
  13. Without a doubt! We just celebrated 20 years of marriage and I wouldn't trade the worst day with him for the best day without (hope that makes sense).
  14. I am in Simpsonville (Greenville County) and I recently found out about a place called Amazing Savings in Six Mile. I know they sell a lot of organic products. I haven't been there, but it might be a place for him to check or at least call. I can't think of any health food store that would be closer for him. Maybe Bee Well Market in Pickens?
