  1. It seems to me that this recommendation pre-supposes that the child is functioning more or less rationally. How much experience do you have with OCD? OCD is not rational. If OCD is driving behavior, trying to find a rational cause is not going to work. There isn't one. Stuff that severely impacts brain functioning is like that because the brain itself becomes glitchy and rationality goes out the window. And unfortunately continuing to wait to re-introduce medication causes the irrationality to spiral ever downward. I don't have a magical solution here and Im not at all an impose-my-will person, but sometimes getting the medication into the person with the glitchy, not-rational brain really does have to be a top, urgent priority. Trying to find a rational path through or waiting days at a time hoping for rationality to emerge isn't going to help.
  2. This is kind of bunny-trailing but since the writing system was brought up here are some of my thoughts on that: Arabic and other languages that use a phonetic script but don't mark all the vowels do pose unique challenges for language learners. Arabic script isn’t all that hard--not easy, sure, but manageable. Unfortunately you can't rely on learning the script and pronunciation and then being able to read ordinary print that lacks the short vowel markings. A person with fairly rudimentary Spanish can sound out a Spanish text. A person with the same level of Arabic cannot. Because of thid, you lose the jumpstart of picking up vocabulary and grammar from reading. On the positive side, this and the other challenging aspects of Arabic (including the fact that that name is really an umbrella term for what is linguistically several different languages) means that it's not a language that many non-native speakers learn to any degree of fluency, so those who do learn it are in demand!
  3. They say mostly second shift but it sounds like there might be a few openings that aren't. It might be worth applying.
  4. Could she swallow a pill? My 10 year old takes fluoxetine in pill form, and his 10mg pills are pretty tiny. Maybe present it as a "new" medication in place of the now-detested liquid medication. She doesn't have to take the liquid if she will swallow the pill.

  6. That's super hard if the child doesn't have the awareness to see how much smoother life is with medication. OCD is a beast of a disorder; every one of my kids has some level of OCD symptoms and when functioning is severely impacted medication can be a lifeline. For the future, you can also keep TMS in mind as a potential treatment. Unfortunately it isn't available to 7 year olds.
  7. I'm super impressed with everything you are already doing, just trying to brainstorm more avenues.
  8. I think a lot of smaller businesses don't advertise positions, it's mostly word-of-mouth. Just getting out and talking to as many people as you can might land you something. If that business doesn't have an opening you can ask if they know anyone who is hiring.
  9. I've always thought that medical/dental/optometry receptionist sorts of jobs might be pleasant. Maybe just start walking into offices with a resume and ask if they might need anyone?
  10. I did a program through this organization recently and it provides a fabulous network and help with further training and job placement once the program is finished. It's local to me but they do run online cohorts and people from anywhere can join those. They ask for a donation/tuition as a way to get buy-in from the people involved, but if you explain your circumstances they do have some scholarships. https://www.tech-moms.org/tech-moms
  11. I wouldn't spend time trying to do things that pay pennies-on-the hours like surveys and such. I think you are on the right track with applying everywhere you can. I do think you should widen the search for remote work; there's a pretty wide variety of employers hiring remote workers. You might have to turn in dozens of applications to get something but at least it's just a matter of submitting applications online, you don't have to go trucking all over the place to turn them in in person. I can't remember, were there reasons you want to avoid remote/work-from-home jobs altogether, or just certain types of work-from-home jobs?
  12. This looks like decent pay? https://www.wahjobqueen.com/2023/07/12/the-hartford-hiring-customer-service-relationship-specialists-to-work-from-home-40685-61027-per-year/
  13. Well done staying your ground for court! The job market in your area sounds awful.
  14. Kudos for your persistence @heartlikealion!
  15. I haven't seen anything spectacular yet.
  16. If you come across any really great Prime Day/Copycat Prime Day deals, please post them here!
  17. Oh, this is fascinating to me. If you are neither hearing the words nor visualizing, what IS happening internally when you read?
  18. My mom says that she thinks mostly in emotions.
  19. This is a little unclear--Tim Ballard is listed as the only Personnel with compensation of 0 but $100,000 in compensation was paid to someone... Also it's making grants to OUR and also to Glen Beck's Mercury One organization.
  20. I'm super fascinated by people who experience books as a movie/visually immersive experience. I just hear every word I am reading in my head--in my own internal voice, I don't have character voices or anything.
  21. My words aren't a monologue; most often, they are imagined conversations with other people, real or imaginary. I do "talk to myself" sometimes, in my head or out loud. That's just occasional bits though "whoops, shouldn't have done that" or "where did I put the scissors" or "better go change the laundry"; it's not an ongoing thing.
  22. I think in words and no pictures.
  23. OUR definitely predates Q-Anon, for what that is worth. I've been aware of the organization since at least 2015; there was a lot of fundraising going on for it in my area back then.
  24. Regarding the fundraising for OUR, I doubt most of the funds going to OUR would otherwise be going to other anti-trafficking organizations; it's not as if all fundraisers draw on the same exact pool of donors. Since OUR seems to be very successful at fundraising, if funds go through them to other reputable organizations that's probably not a bad thing. I guess we'll see what direction they take in future years.
  25. Amira, are you able to find similar financial information on The Nazarene Fund, the other organization Tim Ballard heads? I'm wondering if he is drawing a similar salary from that organization as well.
