  1. "As members of the Church we don't have to look back far in our history to reflect on times when we were refugees, violently driven from homes and farms over and over again." I'm watching the between session programming. I have really appreciated the church's emphasis on welcoming and aiding refugees in recent years.
  2. Oh no, I love hymns that sound like marches. But then I also went and joined the actual military so... "...one in hope and doctrine, one in charity. Onward Christian soldiers..."
  3. I still feel like we need some slightly shortened way to refer to ourselves. "member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" while entirely accurate is awfully unwieldy. It is really too bad that Christian isn't specific enough in many cases, as that seems to meet the requirement of keeping Jesus Christ in our references to the Church and its members
  4. They don't do voiceovers of songs sung in English into the other languages that conference is translated into.
  5. Except that to the British the more cakeish bit is the pudding, not the sauce. Calling custardy sorts of things pudding is an American thing.
  6. Biscotti is the Italian analog of the French word biscuit and has the same root meaning. But the items that the words have evolved to refer to aren't identical. Language is fascinating!
  7. Like chocolate lava cake? https://www.livewellbakeoften.com/molten-chocolate-lava-cakes-for-two/
  8. Well, biscuit comes from French and means twice baked. I don't think modern biscuits are always twice baked though. They are crisp usually, not chewy like some cookies.
  9. This was interesting https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pudding It does say that in Britain "pudding" is often used for "dessert course" which might explain the confusion...
  10. I do plan to do it. Maybe if will find I have more time ? as far as online stuff goes I mostly just hang out here.
  11. "To Bring the World His Truth" is one of my favorite songs. The choir is doing a nice job. One of my dreams is to some day see member choirs from other parts of the world at General Conference. Either fly them over here or have them broadcast from wherever they are. Let them sing in their native languages.
  12. Oh no! A ten day social media fast...that would have to include The Hive wouldn't it? That's a pretty tough sacrifice...
  13. I love the characterization of Eve's actions leading to the "fall" as wise and courageous.
  14. LOL at Pres. Nelson referring to himself accidentally as "a mother of ten children."
  15. "Small actions of unkindness can have devastating consequences."
  16. Aw, I'm glad you enjoy the threads moonflower. Feel free to join in anytime.
  17. I kinda want to refer to Elder Uchdorf as "the German Shepherd" from now on...
  18. I believe it will be broadcast like the other sessions. We are planning to watch on lds.org.
  19. I understand the realities of difficult spouse dynamics, I've dealt with plenty of challenges in that direction. I am so sorry this is looking like an increased burden rather than a blessing for your family. I do hope you find personal comfort and encouragement in the Conference talks.
  20. (((felicity))) That is such a hard situation to be in. Amira mentioned the idea upthread of some units taking advantage of the extra time to socialize with other members. Even if this is not happening on a ward or branch level maybe it would be possible for members who desire or need more time for spiritual nourishment for themselves and their families to find ways to spend time with others with similar needs and desires on Sundays? I think it would be worth discussing your concerns with your bishop or Relief Society leaders or ministering brothers/sisters and see if there is a way to turn this into a blessing for your family.
