  1. In general. But on the bright side, there's no likelihood we'll ever have to fight over him. I cede. :D
  2. Panty/panties doesn't bug me, but I prefer "pantry." Oh, how I'd love a pantry...
  3. *hug* We were iced in for almost two weeks maybe four years ago? My family is lucky to have survived. Seriously. But that's probably not the type of inspiration you're looking for. Sorry. These cookies look like fun. I'm going to make a batch tomorrow and have the kids make the "pretzels": http://www.saveur.com/article/recipes/sweet-pretzel-butter-cookies
  4. I had to google the name. Ewwwww.
  5. And Arcade Fire is the most overrated band in recent memory... but I love them anyway. :)
  6. OK, I've got a few. Alfie Kohn needs to be put in time out. (And I neither spank nor use time outs.) (good) anchovies rock I like Hall & Oates cats > dogs elementary math isn't rocket science and shouldn't be treated as such Gone With the Wind is the most overrated film, ever... well, with the possible exception of Gladiator
  7. A set of mason-jar-glued-to-candlestick wine glasses. And soon, as one of my occasional guests breaks a wine glass seemingly every time she is over (and I can't give everybody wine but her).
  8. I was frantically batting my eldest about the head in an effort to dislodge her earphones so she could hear and understand, oh Best Beloved, just how terribly I need a set for Christmas. :tongue_smilie:
  9. A bottom of the line Nook, Kindle, or other Android tablet (but be careful not just to buy any old brand, and make sure it has Play Store access) will suffice for playing podcasts, and would be far cheaper than an iPod Touch. There are a good number of apps: BeyondPod, Doggcatcher, Stitcher are probably the most popular. You can subscribe to most podcasts from within the apps and either assign update times, or manually update.
  10. Yup. I'd watch if Naveen Andrews was cast...
  11. We just saw that... it's a great Thanksgiving movie. :tongue_smilie:
  12. I'd rather have rain than the record breaking cold we have now. Brrrrrrr.
  13. This and fiddly stuff: dim sum, sushi, good Thai, etc.
  14. You may have found a niche not yet filled.
  15. My favourite cooking show is My Drunk Kitchen.
  16. Especially Abominable-Snow-Monster-sized ones. They're having more fun up north than they're letting one. :tongue_smilie:
  17. There's a house I pass every morning when I walk the dog that has an inflatable snowman. When collapsed it looks like a giant discarded condom.
  18. There's no one recipe, but rum is usually present.
  19. Just limit the times they're available: some outings, appointments with waiting rooms, what I call the "witching hour" when I'm making dinner and you probably don't want them engaging in messy art or the like. Then it's easier to say at other times, "No, it's not time for the screen; it's time to play."
  20. No, no. no, no, no. Not *with* eggnog; it's an essential ingredient of the eggnog. Here's an easy, basic and safe recipe. There is some small danger in "fresh" recipes made with raw egg. http://www.sciencefriday.com/blogs/11/29/2012/dr-rebecca-lancefield-s-eggnog-recipe.html?audience=4 DR. REBECCA LANCEFIELD'S EGGNOG 1 dozen eggs 1 quart heavy cream 1 quart light cream 1 pint bourbon 1 quart rum nutmeg sugar to taste (1/2 - 3/4 lb) Beat eggs, add bourbon and rum slowly with stirring to prevent precipitation of egg proteins. Beat heavy cream separately until it peaks and add to the egg/bourbon/rum mix. Add the light cream with stirring. Add the sugar to taste with mixing (1 pound/batch), then add nutmeg to taste. Leave standing at least overnight with lid slightly ajar in refrigerator. Serve after 2-3 weeks in the cold. And a fun video: http://www.sciencefriday.com/video/11/30/2012/yet-another-reason-to-spike-that-eggnog.html
  21. That's a neat trick. I wonder what I could do to get Werner Herzog's in mine... I might get over stimulated, but it would be worth it.
  22. The kind tempered with self interest and poorly concealed contempt, right? (I love, love, love my cats.) I have a friend who kept two cats despite allergies. One recently passed away, and her allergy has disappeared. Maybe there's a cat out there for your DH. *hug*
