  1. Good luck! I hope you have a better experience than I did this week. Her suggestion to me was that I do a good preschool curriculum like FIAR......
  2. Hopefully you are right and the insurance company will be placated.
  3. This woman was not interested in a dx at all. She zoomed through the IQ test and then sent us out the door. We already have her in OT and ST, this was just a formality so that the insurance won't give us grief when therapy becomes long term. I didn't get the impression she wanted to dx her with anything specific even though she was confused by the IQ test and had to go talk to the real dr (turns out our appt was with an assistant) because she had no idea what to make of it.
  4. If your child has been diagnosed ASD, would you mind sharing their PLS-4 scores? I would greatly appreciate it. We went to the neuro-developmental psychologist today and the lady looked at the PLS score and immediately ruled out ASD, which didn't make sense to me since there are so many other markers for it. She said she's going to call is mixed developmental delay. Gee, how helpful.....
  5. I hear you on the lack of routine. The OT and SLP keep asking what our routine is and I feel like a idiot when I say, "Well, we don't exactly have a routine right now, but by the end of August we will" :p
  6. Let me know what you find out. You just described my oldest DD :p Most adults in her life find the random thought thing endearing. I have a hard time with the constant talking though. I've got an OT eval for her in October for motor issues. A psych eval is not possible right now. I've got to come up with the $$ for my third girl's psych eval next month. I always thought my oldest was just quirky and clumsy then I started reading up on SPD because of her sister. Oldest has a lot of similarities with Dyspraxia and after the OT saw her playing with her sister she suggested an eval for motor issues. I'm hoping she can shed some light on the behaviors you mentioned as well. So, no help, just a shout out that I feel your frustrations :)
  7. I hope I remember this thread on my bad days :) So tired of listening to my seeker cry over not getting to wear long sleeves and pants on 100 degree days. So glad it's been raining this weekend, but what does she do? Go outside in her underwear...... seriously kid? Argh... I've had the toe discussion with family members before. I keep telling them there's no way they'll lose their toes in the 1 minute it takes to get from the car to the house, they're fine. No one believes me.....
  8. I'm glad you figured it out! If anyone else comes searching for ideas I truly believe the key is diet. When we took my non-sleeper off dairy it got SO much better!
  9. I have road ids for all of my older girls just in case they get lost. http://www.roadid.com/Common/default.aspx?utm_source=Bing_Ads&utm_medium=Text&utm_campaign=Road_ID&referrer=8942 I think it makes sense to have one for the kids without speech issues as well. You never know what might happen. I wasn't very good about putting them on them until we went to a museum last fall. My speech delayed child got bored and decided to start running away from me. I lost her for a couple of minutes (it was my first time at this museum and I didn't know the layout very well. Shame on me. Lesson learned to seriously look over map before hand). One of the employees was suspicious that I wasn't her mother. Fortunately another employee had seen me with her earlier and smoothed things over quickly before things could have turned really awful.
  10. lol My 6 would not be happy with two hours a day. She needs around 3 hours to feel "schooled" or I hear about it all day :p I was thinking an hour with the K and the Pre-K is mostly working on getting her to talk more, but it takes one on one time... 30 minutes would be good, I think. I already spend about an hour and a half reading to them at bedtime. Fifteen minutes for each of the younger ones and about an hour for the older. So every day we're talking 4 1/2 hours of actual school. Probably 2 hours before lunch and the other 2 1/2 after. That would probably land 1st with 4 hours a day, K with 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 (depending on how much she pays attention to sister's extra lessons) and an hour for Pre-K..... I think I could make that work. I just need to figure out how to space out the hours. Thanks! I think that's exactly the way I needed to think about it in order to come up with a schedule.
  11. Okay, three kids using different curriculum (well not really a curriculum for Pre-K, but time devoted to only her to work on speech). How would you schedule my week? My plans are in my siggy. I'm feeling overwhelmed. Do I do morning and afternoon blocks? Oldest MWF morning and TR afternoon, second, MWF afternoon and youngest TR morning? Then incorporate the art and science bits I intend to do with them all at once? I like this idea, but they want to do school at the same time. Problem is oldest won't do HER work if sister is doing something different. She has to know what everyone else is doing and I've tried to put them in different rooms. It ends up stressing me out because NO ONE does anything unless I'm with them. Also in the end I'm schooling ALL DAY and I know I'm going to get burnt out quick. What would you do??
  12. A little over five acres, we have 9 fruit trees we planted last year (hope to double that next year), 6 berry bushes, chickens and guineas. Oh and a worthless pot belly pig that's cute as can be :p Until we get the perimeter fence fixed we're skipping the big livestock, but we hope to have a dairy cow eventually and we're planning our fall garden as long as DH gets out there to till the llama poop in soon.
  13. The moore recovery fb page requested baby items of all and any kinds to be dropped off at the Yellow Rose Theater. http://www.yellowrosetheater.org/
  14. She said on fb it changes every hour whether or not they can get in. Another of her friends said they still haven't been allowed to get to their house :(
  15. That's one of the excuses news has been throwing around. My friend (whose house is still standing, but damaged) said they keep changing whether or not they are letting people in with no warning. She said they attempted to tarp it yesterday just the two of them unsuccessfully, but now they have offers of friends to help and don't know if they can get back into the neighborhood or not. Why are you guys going on about trailer parks now? That's not even relevant to the Moore storm. If we were discussing the storm that went through Shawnee on Sunday sure, but I thought we were talking about Moore. If you are well traveled in OK you know mobile homes, trailer parks etc are very common. No they are not temporary residences in most cases. My BIL and sister used to develop mobile home neighborhoods and yes a LOT of the owners chose to put in storm shelters. I live not far from one they put in and there are plenty of storm shelters. Just because movies depict mobile homes belonging to redneck poor people does not mean it's true. Okies should know better. Ooooo that was a nice bit of thunder, you guys feel that? Sure hope the storms tonight keep the tornadoes far south if it stirs more up.
  16. I graduated in 01 from Mustang. My best friend in college graduated from Moore, never mentioned a pool and my SIL graduated a few years after me from Moore also never mentioned a pool. Sorry, if I was spreading misinformation. I've only ever heard of private schools having pools :p What exactly do you mean by trailer home? In my experience people who live in mobile homes have shelters because they know they are at an increased risk. I probably can count on one hand all the properties that don't have a shelter for 4 miles including an actual trailer home (can be attached to a truck). It's the people in brick and mortar homes that think they are perfectly safe that don't tend to get them. We got a in the yard storm shelter last year for about 5K. It fits our family in folding chairs just fine including the prissy dog. We were in it on Sunday :p No leaks either btw. The problem with the rebate plans is they are a lottery. Before we moved I had applied for a rebate in the town we were in. THEY CALLED ME A YEAR AND A HALF LATER!! to say we had won the rebate. It was not transferable it was only for ME and my PREVIOUS ADDRESS. So if I had stayed within that town I could not have used it at a new address nor could I pass it on to the people who bought our house. It was in the paperwork that it would not go toward a previously bought shelter so they probably assume most people would have already bought one assuming they didn't get the rebate. What. a. crock. Also the water table does factor into basements. My parents have a basement and when the electricity goes out flooding is a serious problem because their sump pump cannot run to keep the water out of the basement. Every time a storm comes through they run the pump so that they can go as long as possible before having to bail water if the electricity goes out. It's not just about cost.
  17. I thought they had already shut off the grid to that area though, so why are they still blocking the roads?
  18. None of the OKC area public schools had pools when I was in school. Kids these days get all the neat stuff :p So glad they lowered the death toll. Wish someone would chime in on exactly what the hold up is for not allowing people into their neighborhoods. There's speculation it's gas leak, protection from looters/lookers or a few other things, but no one is outright saying why. Only heard from one friend that's been able to get to their house. Everyone else is stuck outside the blockade.
  19. no, there would not have been a pool there. The only schools that have pools here are colleges and maybe a private high school or two.
  20. Yes this was about the time schools get out. They locked down the schools and refused to release children. They announced it all over the news that they were not allowing children to leave. Parents said they arrived at the schools and couldn't get in because they had locked it down and gone to take cover. I am not sure if that particular interview was about those schools hit or another in the area though. My sister in law teaches at a school just south of there and she was still at the school at 8pm last night. People can't get in or out of the town except on foot. Just got up and haven't heard if things have improved yet, but my husband spoke to his brother this morning and they can't get to their house which was about a mile south of the path.
  21. fyi - 7 children were found in the school deceased and there are still some children unaccounted for, but they keep adding places where children are waiting for parents. The number of missing students drops every hour or so, but no one has an exact number right now. I sure hope they find all those missing alive. JeninOK - I feel the same way. Moments like these I wish I could drop my kids off somewhere and go help.
  22. call for it (meow or kitty kitty) leave some food out since it may not trust you. shake the bowl while you call for it. Hopefully it will come to you. Once you establish how friendly it is, contact a rescue tell them the situation and offer to foster it till it can be placed.
  23. You go by what the person identifies with. If you are curious and don't want to offend the child then ask the mother what pronoun he/she would prefer when being spoken to/in front of when the child is not present/paying attention. When in doubt you can always use their. It's their turn. Let them go. What a beautiful face painting they have.
  24. That was EXACTLY what I thought from the get go about Clara! I can't believe I doubted myself over the last couple of days. I cried at the end though :( I knew they were going to do THAT, but I didn't want them too. The very, very end I kinda get, but I agree a bit lost on where they are going to go with that.
  25. - There ya go. One sentence. I might add "or those considering homeschooling." to the end, but either way that's all I would say. Don't get sucked into the drama.
