  1. We are getting to the end of interviews- last one is in York, PA, so what can you tell me about homeschooling in York? Thanks!!
  2. Thanks- how do you think York compares to Mechanicsburg? We are looking at Mechanicsburg/Harrisburg, Chambersburg, and maybe York.
  3. If you homeschool in Chambersburg how you feel about options/opportunities for your kids? We are on a long week of interviews and trying to figure out communities in central pa.
  4. If you living in these areas and homeschool are you pleased with options/opportunities in your area?
  5. That is your answer. He has a sleep apnea problem and he isn't using the cpap. Until he uses the cpap and is getting enough "good" quality sleep he won't get up at a normal time. Talk to your doctor about different face pieces that might be more comfortable, try a few bad nights of not getting to sleep with the cpap on until he gets comfortable it, and conside a short term medication to get him to fall asleep if this a major issue. Also, there was a fire safety video with kids who slept thru fire alarms and the same kids woke up to recordings of their mother saying, "wake up, there is a fire". Maybe try recording your voice as an alarm. Good luck!
  6. Yes, I've concluded it isn't worth doing. I did communicate with an admission person at a small, liberal arts school (friend of a friend). She said most students aren't submitting it, and if they do it doesn't have much impact. Basically, it won't hurt, but it probably won't help. I'm glad to have something to take off the to do list!
  7. I read aloud only 1:1. Reading was done snuggling on the couch with one kiddo at a time. I never worked for me find a book that would work for all kids or to keep all kids focused at the same time. I also found that sitting next to child eventually led to them following along on the page. When they were older, we took turns reading, but it was always 1:1.
  8. Any thoughts on whether to create a ZeeMee account for the Common Application? I'm leaning towards skipping it. Thoughts?
  9. I'm north of Pittsburgh. Most moms nurse here and I haven't seen any made to feel uncomfortable about doing so. I nursed 3 all over (malls, grocery store, restaurants, etc.) and only got positive comments. I tended to do the "pull up the loose tshirt method". I never used a cover up.
  10. The shelving is from Lowes. The closet is actually what was designed as our toy closet. Now it is half board games and half science materials. (My husband was a chemistry major, so high quality science materials have been a must have for him!)
  11. Thanks, I really like being able to see everything. Once I got beyond the idea that the science stuff should be out in the room (instead of in the closet) it all worked. (Total cost= $20 for walmart bins + containers I already had.) I would post more pictures of the other side, but I can't upload them.
  12. I hate the way I have our science lab materials stored. I have materials for biology, chemistry, physical science, and 5th/6th grade science. It's a lot of stuff and very breakable. Currently, it is in labeled plastic pull out drawers. I find them not sturdy enough for the materials. Ideas for good storage options? Pictures?

  14. Not sure what the rumors are re: Bob's, but I have always found Bob's to be very careful company re: cc. I'd hate to see a company who was one of the first to address cc and make GF products lose business because of 'rumors'. However, if you have sources/facts please share because that would be very important to get out to the GF community.
  15. These are the best GF cinnamon rolls. They use 123 Biscuit mix. (I've tried numerous recipes- daughter was diagnosed before celiac was cool (2003).) Cinnamon Buns Make a package of 123 biscuit mix. Roll it out between 2 pieces of plastic wrap. Carefully, remove top piece of plastic wrap. Top dough with: 6 TBS melted butter Then, sprinkle with: 1 cup sugar 1/3 cup cinnamon Roll up dough. Slice into pieces and place in greased 9†cake pan. Brush with heavy cream. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour. Cook for 40 minutes at 375. While still hot, top with: 1 cup powdered sugar 3 TBS butter 2 tsp milk
  16. I think marrying young is not an issue. But, for women who are planning to pursue an advanced education (and I know that isn't everyone but it was my experience and hope will be Dds), I think marrying before you have finished your education (undergrad at least) is important. And, I think waiting to have kids until you've finished your graduate education is important. We married at 21/22, finished education, then had kids 27/28, married 23 years. I have watched too many friends and family lose a spouse, have a spouse turn out to have mental health problems, or have a spouse with substance abuse problems to not feel that every woman needs to have the education to support herself/kids if life doesn't turn out how you planned.
  17. I wish I had one bowl. Two bowls makes it hard to wash large pots, trays, etc. We tend not to soak dishes, store them in the sink before washing, or wash many dishes by hand. So, for us the sink is used mainly to wash what we can't fit in the dishwasher Which tends to be the large items.
  18. Sounds typical of perimenopausal cycles- often there are symptoms of early pregnancy during those first longer, lighter cycles.
  19. I'm currently in PA, so I know how to comply with the PA laws. Specifically, what types of activities are available? How large is the homeschooling population? Are the school districts friendly to homeschoolers? Can homeschoolers participate in band, theater, etc. at the public school?
  20. What can you tell me about homeschooling in / around Chambersburg, PA? Thanks!
  21. Digging into Diagramming is very easy to use and focuses solely on diagramming. It takes 1-2 months depending on the child.
  22. I donated a bunch of books to the library. The next year, at the book sale my youngest daughter purchased a book and found my oldest daughter's name written in it. So, we bought back the book we donated!
