  1. We normally celebrate it as a evening for friends to get together and hang out...however we are in the middle of a basement remodel, tired, sick so I am going to bed soon.
  2. :iagree::iagree: Seeing as how I am 5'3" and DH is 5'7" DS I would point out to DS that genetics are not on his side!:lol::lol: Seriously it looks fine to me.
  3. I love Seed Savers. They are great. I have never had a problem with the quality.
  4. No I would not. We lived in Europe for many years and he has experienced the culture. We have friends that are locals that he could stay with for a month if he wanted. What I learned of the schools, culture and family life style proved to me it would not be beneficial for him. I would never let my daughter go. The organizations that arrange the exchanges are businesses. I was recently used as a personal reference for someone applying to host the an exchange student. I was asked if I would entrust this person with my child. I said no. The interviewer told me the other two references said the same thing however she was going to place him with them anyway. My heart ached for the young man. I don't trust the agencies involved.
  5. If someone sweeps under your feet you will never get married ( I think her intention was to get us up and moving but my sister and I saw it as proof we won't get married and at 11 that was a good thing) My dad used to tell me (usually when I asked for something) that when he was growing up he was so poor that when he shoot his bb gun he had to go find the bb. We believed him and asked my grandma which got him in trouble. j There were constant threats as kids but we new our parents would have never done anything like that to us. Lots of teasing and joking and it only came to a bad end one time. My mom used to call us little Nazis when we were bad/mean or just general brats (this is from a Southern woman who did not have a prejudice bone in her body). Well we had a new family move in down the street and of course all of us kids were being terrors and my mom shouted outside for the little Nazis to be quiet. The new kids were German and had only been in the US a few years.:lol::lol: After my mom ate a lot of humble pie and apologized profusely for days she became close with the mom and they are still friends 30 years later.
  6. We were told our belly buttons were where we shot by Indians in a former life. This came from my very devout Catholic grandmother.
  7.:lol::lol: LOL my husband has one that translated from German means if you were a wagon you would have wheels. I think he says it to confuse me.
  8. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I am sorry your sister is being this way. After the anger goes away it must hurt that she can't just be your sister and support you. Again I am just really sorry you don't have her support.
  9. Let's keep it light please... I gonna hit you so hard when you stop rolling your clothes will be out of style (I did actually get hit in the back of the head once when I told mom she would have to buy me clothes that were in style first. I was 14 ) Chewing on the ends of our hair would give us worms. Watermelon seeds would grow in our stomach (we were dumb kids as well) When the radio would lose the channel we were told aliens were invading (again we weren't really bright). Eating dry spaghetti would give us worms (my mom had the obsession with worms:confused:) The list will grow I am sure.:lol::lol:
  10. I was reading the previous tread and it got me to thinking. I don't let DS (16 tomorrow!) listen to his ipod when he is going to sleep. I think it will damage his hearing. It is sorta like my mom telling me not to sit close to the TV or I will damage my eye sight. I don't have any proof of this and when I googled it I am not finding anything really solid. If he sets it down low could he sleep with it on without hurting his ears. I am sure they won't be in there in the morning with the way he moves when he sleeps.
  11. I love my cheapo Staples brand organizer. It fits in my purse but is big enough for me to write on. It has 12 tabs with a month at a glance then daily sheets. i learned a long time ago to use paper clips to attach papers/bill/reminders. For the bills that come out automatically I can just go to that date and write in the amount and company. I don't like all of the fluff. But I only have to plan for 3 people so you may need something more.
  12. As I said earlier, I borrowed TT Algebra 1 from a friend and we are doing math for 1 hour a day. If he isn't at 95% I make him do the lesson over. As we are going over the simple problems at this level I point out that they are the same concept as the harder problems. He seems to be missing the connection that division is division is division with the same rules regardless if there is a coefficient or a variable. I am hoping that with the success he is seeing now I can build his confidence. He is doing Apologia physic with its trigonometry just fine because he just has to plug the information into the formula. I am hoping that his problem so far is a mixture of missing some fundamentals and maturity. I also think part of the problem is that I was being a math snob. :blushing: I had heard so many stories about TT being so light and Chalkdust so superior that I forgot the beauty of homeschooling is doing what is best for my son!
  13. I have had two miscarriages and prefer to grieve alone.
  14. My mom once told someone she knew that I had changed my name and left the country. It was a joke ( I had gotten married to DH who was in the military and we were headed to Italy). When I cam back four years later everyone either thought I was on the run from policy or had served a time in prison for a white collar crime.
  15. In my dreams he would be inspired to learn and dig deep into obscure subjects. He would appreciate the sacrifices we have made to homeschool him. We would be neat and tidy, well planned and academically advanced.:lol::lol::lol: Reality is we starting over in math, he would rather read Guns and Ammo than Dickens, and we spend more time looking for the science book than doing it! Would not trade it for the world!
  16. 450 in 93. The whole wedding was less than 3k for 400 people (gotta love a big southern wedding!) The most expensive thing was the photographer. I think he was 600 but I love pictures so for me it was worth it. DH and I paid for everything because my parents could not afford it.
  17. Thanks for the help. We are going back to the drawing board. I borrowed a TT Algebra 1 from a friend and we are going to do every lesson to at least 95% mastery. I think he finally believes me that I am not being mean he really needs to start over. I am going to use Christmas break to look at the recommendations and really really figure out will work with him. I am also making him spend an 1-1 1/2 hour working through the problems for the practice.
  18. DS is in the 10th grade using Chalkdust Algebra 2. His PSAT in math was terrible and his latest SAT was 520. He is struggling so much with Algebra 2 right now. His average is about a 70. I had him complete a few placement test (Teaching Textbook and Math U seee) and he could not place into Algebra 2. I am so frustrated and so is he. If it isn't a problem he is very very familiar with he can't figure out how to do it. My instinct is to start over at the beginning of Algebra with something like TT. I have always stayed away from TT because I thought it was too light. Now I realize he is missing some of the fundamentals. How did we get this far along and I not realize it? By the way we used MUS for Algebra 1 and his grade was a 91. What do I do? P.S. If you show him how to do the problem he can work it fine. He is currently doing Apologia Physics and once he knows which formula to use he doesn't have a problem. The real problem seems to be analyzing the problem to figure out what to do.

  20. I would not. Having someone else financially involved in your marriage is as stressful as being poor college students.
  21. I found this on a website. It sounds good to me what do you think? Ancient Buddhist Blessing May you be filled with loving kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.
