  1. I plan to use the NCCS 2-semester course that uses The 5000 Year Leap and The Making of America. I just got it this past week, and it looks good.
  2. I know this is a fairly old thread, but I wanted to let you know that I did the 5K last Saturday. I walked/jogged it -- sloooowly! :) My time was 48:50 -- a personal best!:D Sis challenged me to the 10K in 2 years -- YIKES!
  3. I have the Kindle with wifi and 3G, which does not need me to pay for plans from AT&T or Verizon. Is there any reason I would want to invest in the plans for 3G on iPad? Other than internet connection where there isn't wifi, are there any advantages?
  4. I finished #30 -- Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science (Gawande), and #31: Mirthful Memoirs of a Male Nurse (Migliore). I'm currently reading Ask Me Why I Hurt: The Kids Nobody Wants and the Doctor Who Heals Them (Christensen).
  5. Oldest ds was accepted into the Army with an American School diploma.
  6. For those of you who used Notgrass' Exploring America for history credit only (no English or Bible), what did your schedule look like? What assignments did you leave out and/or include? TIA.
  7. Good job to your son . . . but also -- GOOD WORK, MOM!!!! :) :) (Mom of one Eagle and another soon-to-be.)

  9. So now the next question: What would I need/want the extra memory for? (I'm a bit of a techno-dunce.)
  10. I have the opportunity to buy a brand new 64G iPad for $499, which is the same price as the 16G iPad 2. Which would you recommend I purchase and why? Thanks!
  11. Lots of new German Shepherd/GSD mixes! We have two sibling (I'll post pictures later) black, long-coated German Shepherd puppies, now about 17 weeks old. We love them! Shadow is the female -- we've had her since the beg. of March -- and Kodiak is the male, which we've had since latter-April. (Do you remember my thread about choosing his name? I settled on Kodiak, and call him Kody.) They start puppy classes soon. They've quickly learned to be housetrained, and are cuddly lap puppies. Shadow is rather sweet and petite, and Kodiak is, just like his name, a big, lumbering bear -- he's going to be huge!
  12. Finally found a book I had read weeks ago, then misplaced -- and couldn't remember the name (Snowbound: The Tragic Story of the Donner Party. I've put it in my list. 25. 13. Finally, after 3 weeks, I've finished 3 of the books that I previously started. 24. Snowstruck: In the Grip of Avalanches (Fredston) 23. The Doctor Wore Petticoats (Enss) 22. Faith Behind the Fences (Taylor) 21. Nurse! Nurse! (Frazier) 20. Usborne True Sea Stories 19. Usborne True Stories: Crime and Detection 18. You Want Me to Declaw WHAT?! (Toia) 17. 14. No, this isn't astrology, but it IS astronomy. :001_smile: If you're interested, you can see 6 planets lined up in the morning sky for the next few weeks: http://www.space.com/11509-skywatching-tips-6-planets-visible-dawn.html
  15. Umm --- I hope he went without the dogs?;) We have two 4 month old GSD, and they have started digging. The breeder says puppies and dogs will do that outside if they are out for longer periods without human companionship -- in other words, if they are bored. I've had enough pets in my lifetime to know that sometimes they just plot how best to pull your chain. I have no words of wisdom, but I do empathize with you.
  16. Lady Marguarite Puffer-Stonehenge (for one Grandma and the cat) or Lady Elizabeth Frisky-Stonehenge (for the other Grandma and the dog). Which do you like best?
  17. I know the iPad has an app for Kindle; does it have one for Nook? Thanks.
  18. I've been very bad about reading -- well, not reading, but finishing -- books the past few weeks. Hopefully I'll actually finish one of the many I'm reading now. Thank goodness I've "pre-read" 21 books, so I'm not behind. :)
  19. You are all so helpful! I know I will come up with the right name -- I just need to be patient. Thanks for all the ideas. (And Kaiser -- Kaiser roll over -- is a hoot! My pun-Kind dh would love it!)
  20. We brought home our 3.5 month-old black, long-haired German Shepherd puppy on Sunday. He will be huge when he's full grown. He has a laid-back, sweet personality, rather reserved, and piercing light brown eyes. He has a strong, commanding presence -- not mean or anything like that, but strong. (His sister from the same litter has been with us since early March.) On the way home, we went through names: Moses, Kodiak, Orion, Polaris, etc. When we played with him at home, he only responded to the name Kodiak, so that's what we called him. (I'm from AK, so that was a great name, as far as I'm concerned.) Problem? I can't remember his name!! I call him Klondike, or just go brain-dead.:001_huh: Kodiak just doesn't fit him. He's bonded to me, and I've got to call him something. (Sine Nomine? :tongue_smilie:) Two of my girls call him Elmo as a joke; the name means protector, which I like, but he seems too serious to always be called by a red furry muppet name. :) Dh calls him Doofus. Any suggestions? (His sister's name is Shadow, and it took us a long time to come up with that one.)
  21. Small question: is it possible to use Grooveshark on iPad?
  22. I've always been advised to get the opposite sex for the 2nd dog. While 2 females might get along, there is a much better chance of the opposites being happier together. We just brought home our 2nd German Shepherd puppy yesterday. He's the sibling of a our little girl we brought home the beginning of March. You will LOVE having a German Shepherd!! Our youngest is 15yo, and the little girl (Shadow) is his --- or I should say, he is "hers." LOL Both of our pups are long-haired black. I was a bit afraid of GSD, so I was hesitant about adding these two to our family. Dh spent LOTS of time doing research on the internet, and we found a great breeder who bred for wonderful temperament. There was a lot of info shared between us, and the two we have were just right.
