  1. DS 7: 22 at 6 mon, 27.5 1 yr DS 4: 18 at 6 mon, 23 1 year DD 2: 15 at 6 mon, 17.5 1 year They all grew much faster then slowed waaayyy down.
  2. My 7 YO weighed 22 pounds by six months, 27.5 at a year. He sat early and crawled early, skipped standing and was walking at 9 months...and he was still a chunk. He is now 64 pounds and solid muscle, he never stops moving, no visible fat on him. He didn't even start solids until 8 months, EBF until then :).
  3. I made a "mom friend" at CC this year that has a 17, 16, 14, 9, 7, 4 and 3 year old. I love her! I love her wisdom and experience. Her eldest son and my seven year old seem to have very similar personalities and she has given me so much perspective this year. When we go to their house, my kids are all occupied with her kids and we can just chat. I find that very unique, to have that wisdom and built in friends for my littles :). So anyway, we have to be intentional because of their/our activities, but I do enjoy the time we spend together.
  4. Me, too, I pictured her like Piper on Charmed :). DH says she has the same coloring as Piper Perabo and thinks she does look like a Piper.
  5. We call Piper "Livvie" because her middle name is Olivia. Almost everyone calls her Livvie. I LOVED the name Piper forever, but when she was born she didn't look like a Piper. Too bad, I had already had too much monogramming done :). I pictured her looking like my 4 yo, dark curly hair, dark skin and black eyes. She is blond and had blue eyes when she was born. So I guess as she gets older she can call herself Piper or Olivia or Livvie, whatever fits her fancy.
  6. Asher's name is pretty unusual, though we do hear it on occasion. Today at the Natural Science Center they were playing with two little boys, one said "Asher grab the wheel!" So Asher tried to take the wheel. The little boy looked offended and said, "No, I want Asher to have the wheel." Asher looked confused and said, "I AM Asher!" The little boy said, "Oh, he's Asher," pointing to his brother. My Asher looked at him and said, "No, I'm Asher." He was totally confused by sharing his name (and the wheel) :).
  7. Meh, that's how I feel. I went to school with a LOT of Christie/Christy/Kristie/Kristy's, I graduate with four Christie Lynne's in my class of 369. In my facebook feed I have at least five Christie's commenting on most of my posts, I have 21 fb friends with some variation of the name Christie  . I named two of my kids more unusual names, Asher and Piper, but Jackson was the number one name the year he was born.
  8. Deborah (Debbie) is the name choice of the last generation of our family. My mom's name is Debbie, her aunt, who is actually the same age, is Debbie, her brother married a Debbie, and my dad's first cousin is named Debbie. They all go by Debbie Lastname to make sure you are on the same Debbie at a family function :).
  9. I just put this book on my son's shelf in his reading nook, I will have to give it a recommendation this morning :).
  10. I had some really good teacher, my first grade teacher was amazing, Mrs. Raphel, she was very encouraging and helped to develop my voracious book appetite, she also gave me the "best handwriting in first grade" award :). My gifted teachers were always great, they really advocated for us in the classroom and when I was pulled out, I had work that was challenging and exciting. In fourth grade I moved to an all gifted program and those three teachers (4th, 5th and 6th) were phenomenal. I remember learning the most about history and science during those grades than the rest of my school career, including high school. We lived in VA so we went on lots of different field trips in those years. My gifted teacher in junior high taught me to diagram extensively and really taught me how to write. She also took us to NY, DC, and FL on field trips. High school, meh.
  11. I think it was the dehydration, we pushed fluids on her all day yesterday and she spent much of the day watching movies in my bed. I woke her up at about 9:30 last night to give her more and she ate some graham crackers and a popsicle. She has been fine today, in fact, she has drunk a ton (for her) three full sippys of water and one whole cup of milk, so maybe she just forgot what thirsty felt like and now she knows?
  12. Well, actually, she didn't have anything to drink until 11:00. I gave her a sippy of water when she woke up and milk with breakfast, but she didn't drink either (which is not unusual for her). Usually I have to ride her about drinking, remind her to drink some water every hour (of which she will take two sips and then cry and say she can't). We had a friend over to play with my son this morning so I was distracted and didn't check her water cup to make sure she was drinking. I had to force her to drink the water with juice, even though she must have been dying of thirst, she kept saying, "I can't dwink any more." Is this a weird symptom of something? I never really thought to bring it up to her ped, she's always been a non-drinker. She is also not much of an eater, which our ped does know, she will sometimes go a full 24 hours and eat only half an apple or banana, like from breakfast to breakfast. She stays on about the 7th percent growth curve so he isn't concerned.
  13. Still no headache, so I'm guessing dehydration. She is running a low fever (99.2-99.4). The super weird thing is she hasn't been anywhere. She was with her dad all day yesterday on the lake, and we stayed home Friday and Saturday. I bought her a new tricycle at a consignment sale, and I'm wondering if someone who was sick had been touching it there while their parents shopped. The popsicle is a good idea because she always (even when not sick) acts like you are torturing her to get her to drink. My other two are guzzlers so it's just so strange for me to have to constantly ask her to drink her water, if I don't she gets super constipated.
  14. Good news, sort of, my ped called back and went through a series of questions with me and advised me that I could definitely wait until tomorrow to see how it progressed as long as the pain didn't become excruciating, she didn't become disoriented, and was not throwing up. If she still has it in the morning we are going to take her in. She woke up from her nap and the headache was gone but she now has a slight fever and a runny nose, so I'm guessing she's coming down with something and she was dehydrated. I'm going to watch her closely tonight and take her in the morning if she's not better. Thanks for the reassurance and ideas :). Off to make her touch her chin to her chest, just to be sure.
  15. Oh, and she's fully vaxed, including flu this year.
  16. My almost three year old woke up this morning complaining of a headache. I took her temperature, no fever, gave her some Advil and she played all morning. After lunch I noticed she had gotten her paci and was lying on the sofa in the playroom. She said her head hurt again and when I asked her where, she pointed at the back. I took her temp again, still no fever, and put her down from a nap. She is not a big drinker, so I called my dh and asked him if she had drunk anything on the lake yesterday. He said barely, and she had eaten almost a sleeve of graham crackers. She hasn't had anything to drink today that I can think of, she always has fluid available (sippy of milk in the fridge and sippy of water with her, one on each floor of our house) but she rarely drinks. Would you be concerned? I don't think any of my kids have ever complained of a headache. I gave her a sippy of half juice and half water and made her drink all of it before the nap. I called my ped and am waiting for a nurse to call back. Is this panic worthy? I tend to be overly anxious about things, but I don't want to ignore something significant.
  17. We are considering a private classical school for high school, it is a 25 minute drive with no traffic but there are approximately 50 students per grade. I just don't know if I can do high school...and my oldest is only in first grade :).
  18. 7, 4.5 and almost 3. 5:30 7:00 7:15, we do Bible, memory work and SOTW at breakfast I just make myself stop whatever I am doing and start at 7:00. I really want to finish folding clothes or checking fb, but I know I will be sorry if I put it off :). I remind myself I can finish chores during one of our (many) breaks.
  19. We memorize a history sentence each week with CC. We also check out library books on the content. I think the idea is pounding in the pegs for later.
  20. Us, too. He read the first two Harry Potter's in a few months, but he has devoured the Percy Jackson series. I requested the Mysterious Benedict Society (as suggested on here) from the library and I'm hoping it comes in next week :).
  21. No gum here, I can't stand to watch my kids chew it. Maybe juice acid causes a tummy ache? We don't let our kids have juice or fake juice, too much sugar. They seem a little strange, but we can't have red dye and it's in a strange assortment of foods. It might look arbitrary from the outside, but my kids can't have (kids) yogurt, Little Debbie Smores, and many other things because companies feel the need to color everything they produce.
  22. praying :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  23. I'm interested, too :bigear: . It seems like everyone I know has jumped on the oil bandwagon, so I want to know if/why it works.
  24. I guess the good news is we can try, and try several locations from the sound of it. My uncle lives in DC, so we don't have to pay to stay, and worst case scenario we go to the monuments and zoo but don't get the pictures. DH says I'm crazy and he'll only support from afar (in NC) with well wishes and prayers :).
  25. I tried these last year and they hurt my toe. But if you order from Zappos you can try them and send them back for free :).
