  1. Thank you very much. I think you are right. I will focus on WT1 and do it well. Renee
  2. Is this overkill? Also, what do you do before PLL? I have a Kindergartner....should I use FLL?
  3. We are doing the second half of year two this year. Last year we did the first half. I have 4 children using it; levels LG and UG. Last year I had kids in three levels, but the older ones are at a Christian School this year.
  4. I know just how you feel. We just had baby number eight on the 11th. I am scared to death to start school. I am already feeling myself start to shut down. (this is my response to fear.....) I can't have another year of feeling like a failure. I already do, and I haven't even started yet. If you find the "magic" for doing it all and doing it well. Let me know :)
  5. I'm planning this as well. I'd love to hear from others who have done it. My other question is, what do you do for science in 8th grade? Biology would seem a bit much at that age.
  6. What are the things that are not answered for you? And how do you know if you are getting the answers right?
  7. Oh, one more thing. I read somewhere on a review (not on the WTM boards) that the teacher must mark up her own copy because this is not done for you. What does this mean? What if I don't know how, or if I do it wrong (whatever it is)? I really want to do CW with my kids next year. It looks so interesting to me. It also looks challenging and will force them to really think. I would have one doing the primary book, one in Aesop, and one in Homer or OB. I have other children, 2 older who are going to Christian school next year, and 3 younger (6, 4, and newborn). I know, I am crazy for even attempting this, but I just can't seem to get myself to do anything else. I guess I would always wonder if I could have done it. My plan is to do writing first thing in the morning so that it gets done and doesn't get put off. (Like it does now...) All of you veteran CW users.....Please be honest....am I out of my mind? Are the benefits of this program really worth all of my time and energy? What are some of the fruit that you have seen? Thank you again, Renee
  8. Cynthia, So, he should do Homer A/B all in one year? How many lessons is that? I think he is strong in writing and grammar, but I guess I don't really know what that means. Another question for anyone who can help. What will he be able to write at the end of this year? I know he'll be re-writing classic works, but when does he learn to write a report, essay, etc. Thank you all very much, Renee
  9. Thank you Heather.....As you can see, I still haven't decided what to do yet :001_smile:
  10. Could a 7th grader do Homer if he has not done any CW previously? Or do they have to start with Older Beginners? Thank you, Renee
  11. Well, I am on my eighth pregnancy and I am 38 years old. I can definitely say that this has been the toughest. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. It really threw me for a loop. I already was struggling with getting everything done and feeling inadequate etc. The thought of another baby to take care of was just too overwhelming for me to deal with. I am at thirty-four weeks right now and still don't know how it is all going to work. If I wasn't homeschooling, it would be doable, but I find it incredibly difficult to homeschool and keep up with my regular wifely/motherly duties now....how am I going to do it with another baby! Physically, it has been challenging also. I was sick (as usual) for the first three months. This threw me all off with school. We did get behind......and this was supposed to be the year that things were so much better. I had planned, planned, planned all summer so that I would feel like we had a successful school year. I was NOT planning on getting pregnant. Everything hurts more and earlier than the other pregnancies. I have had a lot of braxton hicks contractions from early on and they are not mild. Actually, sometimes they are pretty uncomfortable! I am tired all the time, and have to rest constantly. I don't have enough energy to get the things done that need doing. So I usually feel like a failure by the end of the day. I like things clean and orderly....they seldom are. This drives me crazy and makes me very grumpy! Well, I hope that makes you feel a little better; at least you are not alone:) Just remember..."this too shall pass..." Renee
  12. We just finished our first week with it and I would have to completely agree. Some of the food was just gross and I don't think it saved us any money. The vegetables were o.k. but you can't get those unless you get the main box. I think I'll go back to shopping the old fashioned way :001_smile: Renee
  13. I keep telling myself to "finish well, finish well...." but It's just about killing me!
  14. I am so ready to be done. I don't know how you all do it who school year round. :( Isn't there anyone out there who is finding it VERY hard to do any school right now? How are you "finishing well" ? Renee
  15. Linda, Can you tell me a little more of your thoughts on CQLA. Renee
  16. I love Horizon's. It is very thorough and my daughter has done well with it. Renee
  17. We homeschooled in PA for 2 years and now we live in NY. I will say that PA was much easier; even though we had to keep samples and see an evaluator. New York is NOT homeschool friendly! In PA, I do think it matters what district you are in. Ours was known for being homeschool friendly. Another thing I would highly recommend is to find an evaluator that is "like minded" with your parenting/teaching philosophy. My evaluator was a mennonite who homeschooled his own large family (with his wife of course). He was very helpful and non-intrusive. I have heard of stories of evaluators who were not as easy to work with. I did a lot of asking around before I chose him. Hope that helps, Renee
  18. and babies? :) I'd love to hear from you and how you manage it etc. Thanks, Renee
