  1. We're up! We had a fun week studying life in the woods.
  2. On my list for next year are: Math: BJU 2 LA: All About Spelling 3 Growing with Grammar 2 Write Source 2 finish ETC (but I think she'll be finishing them this year) Reading will be a mix of books from WTM, Sonlight, and Veritas Press reading lists.
  3. We're up. Didn't do a lot of book work this week. The gorgeous weather had us at the park and the nature museum!
  4. My dd wanted to start cursive this year as well. For Christmas I got her a cheap cursive workbook. She is currently learning 3 new letters a week and doing a beautiful job. I really thought she'd likely get frustrated and want to put it aside for awhile, but I was wrong. She seems to be easily retaining the letter forms as she continues to learn new letters as well. She loves practicing on our hand writing without tears chalkboard and on our school desk with shaving cream.
  5. Yes, she will have completed all 8 books; but she'll only be 6.5 years old. Will she be ready for something like Megawords? Will that be redundant if we are using All About Spelling? I am just finishing reading the WWE book. Right now I am having her do a Bible verse copywork each week (she copies the same verse twice each week to practice handwriting). She gets a sentence or two dictated to her 4 days a week during All About Spelling. Right now she's doing oral narration of our read aloud at least once a week (I need to step that up), she isn't copying her narration at this point, but I should add that in.
  6. My 6 year old will be done with the ETC series very soon. She is also doing All About Spelling 2 and Growing With Grammar 1st grade. Where do I go next? A vocabulary program? A reading comprehension workbook?
  7. Thanks everyone! Off to read the blogs now.
  8. Does anyone have a link for a blog with descriptions/reviews of Children's books? Thanks!
  9. Our weekly report is up...actually it's 3 weeks in review.
  10. Here is mine http://landclanlearning.blogspot.com/2009/08/week-6.html
  11. I'd wait...that's what we're doing. Keeping the girls together is important to me and it will be easy to add extra reading books in for the older child instead of having it go over the younger child's head the whole time.
  12. We just finished ETC 3 last week (DD is 5.5 years old). All the words from the sentences are from the lessons in the book- so I think the child is expected to be able to spell each word correctly. DD missed 3 or 4 words. I just corrected them afterwards and explained the rule she'd missed. We moved right on to book 4 the next day since I am confident that she can read all the words, it's more difficult to spell them than to read them.
  13. I'm holding SOTW off until 3rd grade for my oldest as well. We're doing Animal Worlds for Kindergarten, then American History for 1st and 2nd grade. That will allow my 3rd and then 2nd grader to start SOTW together. I plan to use Biblioplan and/or Veritas Press book suggestions with SOTW.
  14. We're up. Finally back from our babymoon.
  15. My 5 year old is having a great time with The Usborne Complete Book of Art Ideas and the Usborne Art Treasury. I stocked a cabinet with the supplies needed for most of the activites- papers, glue, paints, crayons, and pastels. DD loves opening the book and picking a project she wants to do. She loves it so much that she doesn't let me forget it- all I do is read her the instructions and help her get the supplies out. It's not a full art curriculum, so it would probably not be enough for your older child; but its a great way to learn a few techniques and experiment with different art media- I love that it's not about doing crafts.
  16. My daughter is about to start Rightstart B. She has 2 lessons left in A, and she's finished the Singapore Earlybird series and much of Singapore 1A. She loves Rightstart, but also loves worksheets. Should I get the blue (by topic) or light blue (by grade level) series from Math Mammoth for extra practice?
  17. My 5 year old is begging to start learning a foriegn language next year. She'll be doing mostly first grade academics, she'll be 6 in October. What would you recommend? I'm thinking either just hold her off another year, or do Song School Latin or The Easy Spanish Junior.
  18. Me too! I must resist buying new pens, sharpies, and notebooks- I have a million at home, but I'm always tempted to have brand new shiny ones!
  19. Go to the Dump has become my daughters favorite game as well! We're doing Rightstart A, but I just got the card games book to use over the summer with my girls. Can't wait to find more games to play with her!
  20. Next year I'll be using Winterpromises Animals and Thier Worlds with my Ker (who will turn 6 in October) and my PreKer (she'll be 4.5 at the start of the year). Ker will also use: Rightstart B with either Singapore or Math Mammoth for reinforcement Explode the Code 5 and 6 Finish The Ordinary Parents Guide to teaching reading (we're on lesson 100 now) A Reason for Handwriting A All About Spelling Growing with Grammar PreK: Explode the code B, C, and begin 1 The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading once she starts CVC words A prewriting workbook, then transitioning to A Reason for Handwriting K about midyear Singapore Earlybird transitioning to Rightstart A mid year or when she seems ready.
  21. Ours is up- not much fun or interesting to report though we got a lot done this week!
