  1. The proper etiquette is to send a gift of some kind, not money. Get something nice, something *you* would like, from a store in the community so that it will be easy to return if necessary.
  2. I would *love* to drop by and take your children. I cannot promise that I would be a good role model, however. Just sayin'...
  3. :iagree: A true support group will include some actual, physical face time. Too many communities try to include everyone in the whole metropolitan area, instead of encouraging the growth of smaller, geographic areas. And the best groups happily allow new members. Too bad we don't live close to each other; we could start a new support group. :001_smile:
  4. Yes, there are, but you have to look for them more diligently. Surely, there's a statewide homeschool organization where you live. Surely, there would be information on local support groups.
  5. I don't know what is actually wrong with it, except that it hurts when I move *this* way, but not *that* way. Usually I can guard myself. I haven't gone to the doctor because, IDK, she probably won't find anything wrong and it will be just one more thing that's in my head. Or something. :glare:
  6. Most homeschoolers actually have schedules, not lesson plans. :-)
  7. One of our criteria for buying a house 12 years ago was that if it were a two-story house, there needed to be a full bathroom and a full bedroom downstairs (not a master bedroom). We have that; we use that room as an office, but it has a large closet and a jack-and-jill bathroom (one door in the office, one door in the hallway). We are ready for being old and decrepit, lol.
  8. Art With a Purpose. One of our long-ago members who was an artist recommended it. You can find it Rainbow Resource. Each ArtPac is less than $8; teachers are encouraged to have their own ArtPac so they can do each project before the children do.
  9. Good MORNING weewee pie! (my brother used to say that when he was little, 'cuz he couldn't say "sweetie pie." :D ) I have zero plans today. :hat: Sending energizing thoughts to all of you who do. That is all.
  10. so, there was a small accident in my kitchen today. I had cooked a small pork roast, in a glass baking dish. I opened the wall oven door and pulled the rack out so I could check the temperature on the roast, and the rack fell down. See the little thingies on the bottom at the back corners of the rack? They go under the [i don't know what you call the inside parts of an oven] that the rack sits on to keep it in place. One of those had broken off. I will not tell you how someone who lives in this house was angry at it once and threw it down and that thingie broke off. Anyway. I've been using that rack for years just the way it is, but I don't usually have heavy baking dishes on it. Today when I opened the oven door and pulled it out, the rack gave way, and baking dish and roast crashed to the floor. I twisted somehow--I don't know if I was trying to get out of the way or to grab the baking dish or what--and pain shot through my hip, such that I yelled and had to hang on to the counter to keep from falling. Mr. Ellie was right there in the family room, and he jumped up and ran into the kitchen. He picked up the roast, cleaned up all the glass, and took the rugs outside to shake the glass off them. By then I could move, and I washed the greasy drippings off the floor. Then I nuked the wild rice mixture left over from yesterday's dinner, sliced and sauteed some zucchini, and sat down to eat the roast, which was just fine after its adventure. that is all
  11. All drawers in base cabinets in the kitchen, so you never, ever have to get on your knees to look for something. No blind cabinets, either, unless they have shelf units that pull out. Because no getting on your knees to look for things. In a two-story house, not only would I want a laundry chute (because I don't want the laundry room upstairs), but also a back staircase that goes directly into a family room/kitchen area as well as the front staircase in the foyer. And there must be a foyer. I'm so done with walking directly into the living room, lol. I don't live in an area that needs a mudroom, but if I did, I would want one. I envision some sort of laundry room (with a chute)/mudroom/entry-from-the-garage/entry from the back or side yard set-up. Pantry. There must be a pantry. I'd love one that is big enough to have a counter and a freezer in it. And a sink. Maybe even a regular-size fridge, with refrigerator drawers in the kitchen to hold items used frequently, such as milk and eggs and cheese and a pitcher of iced tea. :-)
  12. Yeah, you could. I still don't understand why they want a scope and sequence, though. o_0
  13. One of my favorite ways of finding alone time when my dc were home. :thumbup1:
  14. I can understand some of this *for high school.* This is middle school. I don't see how the parent's scope and sequence would have anything to do with a child's placement. Course descriptions, maybe (but not for middle school). Standardized test scores and a list of textbooks used would make more sense. I disagree with Arcadia. Also, it is important to know *exactly* what the school is asking for, and to provide *only that much.*
  15. Make sure you get pictures of the dc at all of the monuments. Those monuments represent our history, and your children will be part of that history. The monuments are also recognizable in all sorts of media, and every time the Washington Memorial or the Jefferson Memorial or the Vietnam Memorial shows up, your dc will *remember*.
  16. Good morning, ITT! Looked for something on YouTube that had "Good Morning" in it; this was all I could find...
  17. Are we agreeing with each other? Or what? It would not be in any documentation given to the private school by the OP.
  18. What you quoted is for the teacher's use in determining grades; it does not belong on a student transcript or course description.
  19. I have never heard of providing that kind of grade breakdown on a course description *for middle school.* I've never heard of having to provide a scope and sequence. This must be some super-duper private school.
  20. Course descriptions and scope and sequence are not included on a transcript. They should be separate documents...although I have not heard of *middle school* wanting course descriptions and scope and sequence. :001_huh: Yes, you should include a grade rubric.
  21. I would not assume that "most" know how to file a private school affidavit. I have spent too much time talking to people IRL about charter schools to assume that.
