  1. I like stuffed mushrooms. I have never used a bazooka, although I have fantasized about using one. Really, I just wanted to post in ITT tonight. :hat:
  2. There is no way in to this 1400 square foot house.
  3. Just finished talking with a baby homeschooler. It is hard for me to imagine, in this day and age, someone not being able to find an actual homeschool discussion forum, or legal information, or a statewide group in a large, organized state like Texas. Instead, someone can only find an umbrella-type school, in a state where umbrella-type schools have no true value at all, and in fact, one that uses all ACE, and who then has no idea of what ACE is like but now thinks this is how one homeschools in Texas...
  4. I know she has, but she said she still didn't know how to help him. I also said that his spelling was age appropriate. Phonics and spelling are not even the same thing.
  5. Well, the one Sunday that I miss church is when there is an adventure. Apparently, not long after Mass started, about 10 people walked into the church and up to the altar. One of them was blasting away on a trumpet. Another announced that Jesus was coming. The priest walked up to that one and asked him to leave; he was helped out the door by several ushers. The priest continued with Mass; at the end, when he makes announcements, he told the congregation that there was no extra charge for the entertainment. :D It is ironic that this happened when it did; at last month's pastoral council meeting (I'm on the pastor council), our COO talked about security issues and how those were being worked on; I'm sure we'll have a lively discussion next Saturday at the next meeting!
  6. It was not until I began coming here to TWTM forum that I learned that people taught note-taking, or expected children younger than, oh, 12 or 13 to take notes. I don't know how my dc and I managed to muddle through. :-)
  7. I would expect an 8yo child not to know how to correctly spell "phase" or even "whale." It isn't a matter of "memorizing," because he couldn't possibly memorize every word there is. He still needs guidance in learning and applying spelling rules and conventions, and he has to read and write many words before he will be able to spell correctly words he hasn't yet studied. He's only 8.
  8. I went to bed. But I did not sleep. #sleepcyclesmessedup #bronchitissucks
  9. If he wants to try them, let him. He'll have fun trying to figure them out :-)
  10. Clear Contac paper. Also, if it's a teacher's book, i take it to Kinko's/FedEx and have the spine cut off, then the book drilled for three holes, and I put the whole thing in a three-ring notebook.
  11. TYVM. I'm so glad I probably won't ever have to go through that again. Crazy things can happen. When we bought this house, we paid cash, which really cut down on paperwork. However, when it came time to sign the final papers, I had nothing to prove I was "Martha" instead of "Ellie" (thanks to my parents naming me Martha Ella and then calling me Ellie. ::rolls eyes::), so at the last minute, literally at the last minute. the sale almost didn't go through. I guess I should do something about that for future who-know-what circumstances...
  12. There aren't transcripts for elementary children. If you have standardized test scores, that's all you need, although the narrative from the Montessori school will be fine. As long as he attends there, you won't need to do anything else; the Montessori school will forward their records to the new school. I'm sure other schools are familiar with the way Montessori evaluates students, and at the elementary level, that is perfectly fine. If you homeschool, you could have some sort of report or evaluation for each subject area, but for the sake of providing a new school with academic information you do not need to include titles of books he's read or educational field trips. If Kumon is your total math instruction, then you only need a final score, not everything that happened to get there. Here is a sample elementary report card.
  13. I shall live. That is all. ETA: What a present!! A living BOOYA!!!
  14. Mr. Ellie got off work a little early and took me to the doctor. I have a cold. People underestimate how awful a cold makes you feel. That is all.
  15. I have a microfiber mitt that I spray with a dusting product each time I finish dusting. I use a swiffer for things I cannot reach, such as the ceiling fan blades. I also have a little brush that I use on the few tchotchkes I have, and a dry sponge to dust lamp shades and furniture.
  16. She's wrong on all counts. Goodness.
  17. I am a walking commercial for a cold. That is all.
  18. Big fat nothin' going on here today. I did some grocery shopping, and slept through "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." I still can't wake up. o_0
  19. Good for you (the bolded text). We didn't require people to participate, but we only handed out our detailed field trip information at Moms' Night Out and monthly park day. Although we didn't restrict field trips to our own group, we did require people to attend a MNO or park day once every six months in order to participate. Also, we planned field trips once every six months; each person who came was only allowed to plan to field trips, so if only two people came, there would only be four field trips for the next six months (which never happened).
  20. I started with books I was familiar with, and branched out from there (other books by the same author, sometimes just looking through the shelves at the library). I didn't try to find out what "interest levels" were on books, picture books or juvenile novels either one. I just skimmed through the book (if I was not familiar with it) to see if I thought my dc would enjoy them. Mostly I was right. :-) If your 5yo listens and seems to enjoy what you're reading, then you're doing fine.
  21. Really? I've never been in a group that had mimosas for brunch.
