  1. Amy, The last Kate Ross, The Devil in the Music, is the one in the stack. I wasn't able to finish it when I was reading them last year. Reading Sandra Boyton was a very appropriate choice and made me chuckle. Probably what I would have picked, I love her books!
  2. I have been so busy talking to my best friend, who has been visiting this weekend, that very little reading has happened. I have absolutely no idea how to summarize my favourite mystery authors to just a few.....I like way too many. Sayers and Christie would certainly be high on my list. Think I am going to attempt one of the Tey's in the same series as Daughter of Time simply because available via overdrive. I am getting close to finished on the latest Flavia. Dd loved it but I can't say it is one of the best. It is OK and I am hoping for a good ending...... Amy, read your ds a picture book for me! I am another who misses those days. Not sure what I will read next, my stack includes Kate Ross, Faith Hunter, and Tasha Alexander. Also a huge stack of Lynn Kurland time travel romances......They all sound appealing.
  3. Sorry! I pulled out an older Sonlight catalogue and took a look. Not sure if these are part of the new package but these are the ones we still remember several years later for that core. Twenty-one Ballons White Stallion of Lippeza by Henry Red Sails to Capri Strawberry Girl Wheel on the Schoolhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/468116.The_Wheel_on_the_School
  4. I think core C (the name has been changed by Sonlight a couple of times) is American History. One of our all time favoriteshttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/816870.Johnny_TremainJohnny Tremain was part of that core. Have a great time..... Ben an Me (not Sonlight) was really fun alsohttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/827430.Ben_and_Me
  5. I just finished the first book in what appears to be a fun historical series, The Secret History of the Pink Carnationhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84351.The_Secret_History_of_the_Pink_Carnation. Someone here read the series about a year ago and it went on my list. Finally had a chance to read it. :) Kareni and Amy, were you reading these?
  6. :grouphug: Lovely tribute and I am sorry. Glad you will be able to attend her funeral.
  7. I just looked at my Goodreads newsletter for March and there are some much anticipated books being released next month for the series readers among us so look before you delete! To name a few: Prudence by Gail Carrigerhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12799420-prudenceWe are finally going to learn more about the baby....all grown up! Dead Heat by Patricia Briggshttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18941694-dead-heatwhich I know Kareni is waiting for :) Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21457243-vision-in-silverwhich dd and I are looking forward to. Stacia, did your dd try this series? She might really like it. I saved the best for last.....the next St. Cyr historical mystery https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18590094-who-buries-the-dead.
  8. Bookmarks....embarrassed to say we either use the out of date ones from the library, they have a stack of really old free ones that no one wanted advertising things like the 2012 Booker Prize, or I cut up nice weight brochure type scrap paper into one inch strips. We go through lots of bookmarks....
  9. As someone who really likes mushy peas you guys need to know they are not green peas mushed up but a special pea mushed up that looks and tastes more like lima beans imo. Good ones are sort of like mashed potatoes. Definitely rate as a comfort food for people who like them! Much better lumpy which they normally are in pubs stc. High end ones are smooth.
  10. Another of the missing checking in. I should be around for a few days. Missed everyone here but I missed dh and the kids much more...... I have skimmed all the posts and multiquote isn't working for me apparently.....have to admit I am wondering if I forgot how. Just tap the reply to x number of posts button right? Random things I remember trying to reply to...... :grouphug: Noseinabook Daughter of Time is a favourite. The good parts more than make up for the guy in the bed. Amy tell your dh that someday he may be looking at the burial place of several cousins of Richard's ;).......maybe that will motivate him. Honestly think that book starts a bit slow so it may pick up. Robin, obviously the British mysteries are perfect for me but I feel guilty for moaning about Woolf. I probably will read one of the mysteries and most likely a Tey because she is the only one where I haven't read or tried to read them all. Teacherzee, totally agree that Gaudy Night is the best! :) Happy Birthday! To Kim I hope everyone is keeping warm and staying safe. I will post comments about what I have finished later. Mainly fluffy stuff....
  11. Quick post while sitting in McDonalds. Finished Gilman's Pack of Lies. Ok. Not as good as the first in the series. Currently reading Faye Kellerman's Murder 101. Someone else reads her Decker books also so wanted to let them know that this one is really lovely in terms of the series....lots of payoff for the long term series reader. They have relocated to a small upstate New York college town, so different.
  12. I have to admit that I need find something palatable myself. Stacia- Glad your ds is enjoying the Jasper Fforde.
  13. Sad to report multiquote still isn't working but I tried.... Kathy, I suspect you might like them. It has been a couple of years since I read a China Bayles hence the two back to back. The characters are real with interests beyond the murder that I share. I remember one of the earlier books as being hard for me because a favourite character had breast cancer and the tone of the book was depressing which might have been why you stopped. The books have gone back to normal. Edited....added a missing word.
  14. I am currently finishing my second China Bayles mystery of the weekend. This is a great series by Susan Wittig Albert that I have been reading for many years. Here is a link to the author's websitehttp://www.abouthyme.com/China/index.shtmlin case anyone wants to explore. The main character is a former lawyer who moves to a small Texas town and opens a herb shop. Each chapter begans with an appropriate description of a herb. She always encounters a mystery usually with a murder. The characters are really well developed in this series, it has been nice to catch up with my friends. ;)
  15. Nan :grouphug: on the snow. I am heading to my mom's this next week for her 93rd birthday and some outpatient surgery for her. Hoping that it will stop snowing for the week so I can get everything on her list done. Beautiful picture Jane. I finished the latest in another favourite series. Miranda James Arsenic and Old Books https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22522020-arsenic-and-old-booksdid not disappoint. This really is a great cozy series with interesting characters, a cool maine coon cat, and books. Great combination.
  16. I finished the third book in the Lady Darby Mystery series this afternoon. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18693717-a-grave-matter. A Grave Matter by Anna Lee Huber was a satisfying instalment in a series I have enjoyed. The series is set in Scotland's border area in the early 1800's. The heroine is a Lady who has been ostracized by society because of what her deceased husband did and made her do. He was an anatomist who forced her to draw his illustrations, highly unnatural. All was revealed at his death. She goes into seclusion with her family a stumbles onto mysteries to solve, like everyone does. ;) This is a series to read in order.
  17. Noseinabook, :grouphug: So sorry to hear about your aunts death. Hopefully March will be a better month for you. Teacherzee, you definitely deserve to cuddle up with lots of fluffy reading material.
  18. What fantastic news Jenn! Congratulations to your college boy and to his proud parents.
  19. I was just looking at the top 100 romances over on Goodreadshttps://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/487-top-100-romance-novels-on-goodreadsand discovered that I have only read 9 of them. One book on the list really surprised me, Murakami's Norwegian Wood......is it a romance? Someone here read it, most of the books are pretty fluffy.
  20. I shouldn't have liked your post and wouldn't have if my jet lagged brain had been thinking. Sorry. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I hope a good night's sleep helps.
  21. I just finished a book that I have been wanting to read for about a year. Why Kings Confess is the latest instalment in the C.S. Harris series that Amy, Ladydusk, and I have been reading. I think a couple of others have tried it too. It was really good. Well worth the wait. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18114102-why-kings-confess
  22. I just count normally. If it requires an incredable number of rows with great accuracy then I would mark rows with stich markers or safety pins and make a note on my pattern.
  23. It was our travel day and I normally read about 3 light books instead I found myself transfixed by 2 Bollywood films ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humpty_Sharma_Ki_Dulhania, and the lead actress appeared in the second one 2 States also, 2 episodes of Bones, and a few episodes of The Missinghttp://www.theguardian.com/tiv-and-radio/2014/oct/19/the-missing-bbc-drama-parents-nightmare-james-nesbitt. All were very enjoyable. I normally hate watching anything on planes, I detest wearing headphones. Also don't normally just watch without a craft.
