  1. I did not like it either. Clothing got dingy as stated above, and has a very strong, unpleasant smell.
  2. All three ideas sound great. I love all different types of cookbooks, but one thing I love, love, love cookbooks to have are sample menu suggestions for the recipes in the book. Like one of my fave books will list the recipe and have a sidenote saying "pairs well with recipe on this page or recipe on this page".
  3. It is very "Tim Burtony" so yes it is dark, but also beautiful! It is supposed to be a continuation of Alice in Wonderland, not a remake. So it it brings in pieces of the story, but it is not the same story. I also loved it, thought it was very well done. I just wished it was longer!
  4. You can try Language Lessons for Little Ones... http://www.queenhomeschool.com/productpages/Language%20Lessons/Language%20Lessons.html
  5. Does not exactly apply to homeschoolers, but I know I am interested in what is going on with our states, and nations, public schools in general and thought I would share. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2010/05/13/1138854/calif-bill-could-jail-parents.html
  6. I just got a couple science kits, each one has several experiments - http://www.amazon.com/Scientific-Explorers-Blowing-Science-Scientists/dp/B000BURAP2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1273684253&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Be-Amazing-Lab-Bag-Wonders/dp/B000E0DYOU/ref=pd_bxgy_t_img_c
  7. I got my Nook a few months ago after much, much debate between it and the Kindle. My sister and mom have the Sony readers and do not care for them. I LOVE my Nook, and so happy I went with it, I also take it with me everywhere. They have made two updates since release which has made the performance (speed) better. I personally chose Nook because it A) looks prettier :D b) can be expanded with sd card and c) I don't really like amazon proprietary format. Having said that, I think you would be very happy with either of the two choices and will love having a library wherever you go! Wanted to add, another reason we went with Nook is that we plan to get my daughter one for Christmas and so we can share some titles. Not everything is available to share, but there are enough that it will be a nice feature for us.
  8. Thanks so much! Very helpful info. :001_smile:
  9. I was wondering if anyone has or knows where I can find a yearly schedule for Before Five in a Row and/or Five in a Row, so I don't have to do the work myself :D Not looking for a detailed weekly plan, just which books to read during the months. Thanks!
  10. If you feel comfortable enough to share your email address with me, I can pass it along to my sister, she is a doula and I'm sure would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
  11. Might be overkill for frozen green but I use it w/ fresh ones so you can try it. Onions, bbq sauce, green beans. Thats it :D We don't eat meat but if you have bacon I'm sure that would be great tossed in there as well.
  12. Can you please tell me what you use and like for 8th grade history? We are currently using H.O. for both my 7th grader and 3rd grader, and do not like it very much. I plan to use JUST The Story of the World text w/ activity book for my 3rd grader for the remaining of the year and 4th gradenext year, but have no clue what to do for 8th grade! Thanks!
  13. Hello, I tried a search but it won't work for some reason. Do you have a favorite program/workbook to teach time? My math program doesn't go into time in great detail so I need to supplement. Thanks!
  14. A nice multivitamin might be a good idea for anyone, but not a necessity for anyone meeting all their needs through foods. You only need whole foods on a proper Vegan diet to get all the necessary nutrients, same as any other diet. As long as her child is receiving a variety of whole grains, legumes vegetables, and fruits she/he will be perfectly healthy. And honestly I wouldn't talk to her about it at all. It's a personal choice, and if any health issues arise it will be between her and her doctor to address them.
  15. This is what I currently do. As soon as we get settled though (just moved), I'm going to attempt to make my own. Not sure how that will go over, I like many homemade products but shampoo may not be one of them :)
  16. Mental illness for sure. A normal brain would not come up with this plan, put it into action, and carry it out as long as they did. There were previous 911 calls to the home for domestic abuse against the wife, so it's very possible she and the children were forced into the situation. Hopefully she will get some help.
  17. Alderden says they plan on filing charges soon -- one of which would be contributing to the delinquency of a minor, which is a felony. Unbelievable. I feel just terrible for those kids. Of course, it may end up being the best thing for them in the long run.
  18. While I agree that people taking time off work charge is silly (even though I understand the emotions involved), I think the police and fire should absolutely be reimbursed. In addition to the physical and emotional stress they go through trying to save lives, they wasted time chasing what they thought to be a child when they could have been helping someone else who really needed it. Thats a very big deal to me. It's one thing if the parents actually thought their child was in that balloon but were mistaken, and quite another if they planned this whole scheme.
  19. From tmz A man who claims he once worked for Richard Heene says Heene was obsessed with becoming famous, wanted to get his own show, and had an idea for a massive media stunt that involved a "weather balloon" that "resembles a UFO." Sound familiar? Read more: http://www.tmz.com/#ixzz0UFVZOAQi
  20. So far we have a saxophone player, a pumpkin, and a Spiderman. Two more costumes to go.
  21. I'm happy to hear this. In addition to all the time and costs involved in the rescue, delayed flights, etc. I read that the balloon caused major damage to the wheat field it landed it, destroying a farmers income. Very bizarre story (behavior) and what a sad situation for the kids.
  22. 4-H in our area has a TON of different programs that have nothing to do with farming, and you can sign up for more than one activity if you have the time, so I would check it out. I agree with you about Boy Scouts, I refuse to give them a single dime or second of my time. I have heard of a group similar to Boy Scouts, but without the religious aspect and discrimination. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name (there is not a group in my area) but maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about?
  23. :grouphug: If it's any consolation I wish I was single sometimes... :D
