  1. I wonder about sharing drinks?
  2. If anyone is wondering, at this point we've decided to do it next year. He's getting the meningococcal one this year and I don't like to do more than one new one at a time.
  3. It came out when my oldest, a boy, was an infant, so I didn't pay a lot of attention. But, I recall seeing news reports about girls who developed autoimmune issues after receiving the vaccine. Googling yields lots of anecdotal evidence of such cases, but the CDC says: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/pdf/data-summary-hpv-gardasil-vaccine-is-safe.pdf And the WHO says: http://www.who.int/vaccine_safety/committee/topics/hpv/dec_2013/en/
  4. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2016/10/25/the-startling-rise-in-oral-cancer-in-men-and-what-it-says-about-our-changing-sexual-habits/?tid=sm_fb Just posted article on rise in oral cancers and what it says about changing sexual habits.
  5. Tdap when pregnant with my 2yo. Before that was when I started at university. I did an associates degree at a community college first and didn't need any, but when I went on to the university for the bachelors, I had to get a couple that weren't part of my childhood series.
  6. My autistic child was fully vaccinated at the time (Rotavirus vaccine came out after him). There is no doubt in my mind that his autism has nothing to do with that. He was how he is as a baby, even as a fetus on ultrasound. He did have allergies that would have made him react to the rotavirus vaccine, so we didn't do that one with our other two. I also spaced out the vaccines so that they only got one new one at a time. Other than rotavirus, my children are fully vaxxed. I'm the one who started the HPV thread. DH and I talked about it last night and agreed to hold off for a year. This year, we felt the meningococcal one was more important for our particular 11yo and like I said, I like to do just one new one at a time.
  7. Oh ick! I need a brain bleach for that mental picture.
  8. This is what I was leaning towards. He's 11, high-functioning autistic, and doesn't leave my sight. I'm not seeing it needed anytime soon. I don't know what the deal is with people claiming auto-immune effects, but there is a history of auto-immune issues in my family and so that gives me pause. I also worry about how long the effectiveness lasts.
  9. I never paid much attention to the HPV vaccine controversy because I had a boy. Then, they started recommending it for boys and I still didn't pay attention because that was so far away. Now, it's here! I need to make a decision on who to do this at his checkup next month. Can anyone tell me about the HPV vaccine and boys? Have there been issues like with girls? Are those issues "real" (I never actually looked into that)? What have you done?
  10. But at least you get to feel like your vote counts. Those of us in states where the results are considered a foregone conclusion are completely ignored after the primaries.
  11. I can probably count on my fingers the number of sick days we've taken in six years of homeschooling. Only active vomiting or feeling so horrible that you have to sleep all day keep one from doing *something* here. I might modify what the school day looks like, but we still learn. Snot and sore throats don't keep one from learning.
  12. The roof is actually several years old at this point and I just noticed that a few months ago. I'm not sure what can be done about that.
  13. Here's a sampling of what was done: Paint on roof and chimney. Didn't paint eaves to left of chimney: Tried to wash off the roof while paint below it was wet and it ran down (this was part of trying to "fix" things when DH complained): Bleached our newly stained deck and got paint on it: Hard to see, but didn't scrape old paint on eaves, painted right over peeling paint: Did not paint at all several spots like this: What you see right when you walk up to the house, paint all over the roof of the bay window: Again tried to clean paint off the roof after it was pointed out. Paint ran down window and onto ground: Next two pictures are how the eaves were painted, did not go all the way down or up: Front steps:
  14. DH talked to the realtor who was appalled and offered to reimburse us. Apparently he also mentioned getting the money back from the painter but DH doesn't want him involved at all. I think he's scared of the guy harassing us while he's at work. I'll post some pictures in a minute. Uploading them now.
  15. He came back and for some reason DH had him paint. I told him not to. He said we were already in and then we'd have to find someone else and that would take too long... Imagine how bad it could be and it's worse. Our beautiful black roof is no longer black. He said we should just spray paint over it. I can't even think about it. DH kept pointing out issues and he kept making excuses or making them worse "fixing" them. He finally paid him to make him leave. I don't know why on earth DH thought letting him work today would work out, and I'm trying really hard not to say that, because we are out way more money than we could afford in the first place and DH has a lot of work ahead of him to fix everything. He did text the realtor to call him so idk what's going to be said there.
  16. The siding didn't need to be painted before he came :( He was just supposed to pressure wash the house and paint the trim. We have not signed a contract with anyone (realtor or painter). I have no idea if the guy is bonded/insured. We were supposed to list next week. This was the last thing that needed to be done besides taking things to storage. DH is outside painting the front of the house.
  17. We are getting our house ready to sell. One of the top realtors in the area with whom we consulted but have not yet signed a contract with gave us the number of a painter he recommended to wash the house and repaint the white trim. DH called, he came and quoted a price for the work and then came yesterday to start. He was give 1/3 of the money up front. Apparently, he did not pressure wash it. He put chlorine bleach in a pump sprayer and sprayed the house. Then later he used our hose to spray it off. This is what the house looks like now. All metal (house numbers on the front, door knobs, door bells) are corroded. The paint on sides that didn't get full sun all day is streaked. The paint on sides that did get full sun is majorly faded (the picture showing this shows it compared with patch work that had been color matched). The deck that we just finished staining has bleach spots. DH is usually really assertive but for some reason he didn't say anything to the guy and my suggestion that we say something to the realtor did not go over well. He's now yelling at me for even talking about this. Am I crazy here? WWYD?
  18. Not only is there no time for "me," there's not even a "me" anymore.
  19. My oldest got glasses at 6 or 7, but it was just a few months ago at 10 that he started wearing them regularly. It came after a period of several months of asking about things that would have been clear if he wore them and people pointing that fact out to him. He's never broken or scratched them.
  20. We are not within the bounds of any city or town. We are planning on moving in the next few months and we'll be within city limits then so won't have this issue. I'm just absolutely appalled that it is okay legally to do this. There aren't any laws regulating land size, proximity to others, or targets. Nothing unless you're in city limits somewhere.
  21. That's what I thought too, but on a law forum it was explained that it has been interpreted that it only applies if the original discharge was unlawful (so in commission of a crime or in city limits where not allowed). Since they are allowed to target practice on their property, what I read said this wouldn't apply.
  22. I'm in South Carolina. Apparently, there's no statewide law regulating backyard shooting. I'm in Lexington County, not inside any city limits. I can't find anything online relating to any further County ordinances.
  23. Here is a map from my kids' Pokémon Go app (so no identifying info). The guy is standing right behind my house looking at the two houses it could have come from. The houses that were hit were the one to the guy's left and the one across the street (in the bottom left corner of picture). One house has 6 acres and one has 3.
  24. They did not. I don't know if they will later on or not.
