  1. This is all I could find: http://community.lawyers.com/forums/t/133391.aspx
  2. It's not in public. It's on their private property, which is why it's legal.
  3. Probably once every few months there are gunshots from the wooded property behind our neighborhood, backing up to our house. We assume they're doing target practice. We've called the police on occasion and been told that they can do whatever they want on their property but they're responsible for whatever damage they cause. This evening, as DH was walking out the door to take DD to pick out a birthday cake for me, it started again. He brought her back inside and said he was going to go look in back. As he is in the back, a whole lot of yelling starts happening. The next-door neighbors had a bullet come through their wall and lodge in another wall three feet from where they were standing. The neighbors across the street from us both were standing in their driveway (which is across from the empty space between our houses) when a bullet went through the front of their garage less than two feet above their heads. My husband was standing in the backyard screaming at the top of his lungs for them to stop firing. The shots finally stopped when the sirens started. Unfortunately, the deputies came down our street first and had to be directed to where the shots came from. By the time they drove back there with loudspeakers calling for them to come out with their hands up and then finally went to the two houses on those properties, nobody was there. We're told that they'll put a detective on the case in the next few days and if they find out who did it, they'll be charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and pay a fine and restitution. I am so upset. Our neighbors could have been killed. We could have been killed. And *if* they catch them (there are only two houses there and one of them has a habit of shooting there, it shouldn't be a problem), they'll get a fine! My kids are terrified and won't sleep in their room (which faces the back of the house). And these people *might* pay a fine. I don't understand how this is okay.
  4. I agree. I saw it as a tremendous act of self-sacrifice.
  5. Second video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YxktBbFgFVE They did move the body and take his pants off.
  6. I understand, just posting where I saw what. At any rate, I have a theory after reading this article and viewing frame by frame again. http://www.wcnc.com/mb/news/local/keith-scott-shooting/former-fbi-agent-breaks-down-cell-phone-video-of-keith-scott-shooting/324882723 Right after the shooting, before she goes back over there, there is something on the ground right where the red shirt guy ends up standing by the time she's over there. Throughout the rest of the video, he very consciously does not move his left foot. If the body was moved before the still photo was taken, that could be the same location.
  7. I have no idea. It certainly doesn't seem like it should. But, I specifically mentioned that because the word I saw repeatedly used by police was that he was "brandishing" a gun, and what that video shows is definitely not brandishing.
  8. The article you linked, and the one it links to, both say the police said the object in the photo is the gun. ETA in case it changes, quote from right now: "No gun is clearly visible in the video footage, which appears to have been recorded from a nearby patch of grass. A photo, previously obtained by NBC News from local affiliate WCNC, appears to show an object at the scene that police sources identified to the affiliate as a gun. It is not known how long after the shooting the photo was taken." And the article it links to captions the picture thus: "Police sources confirm to WCNC, the NBC Charlotte station, that a witness' photo taken moments after the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott shows a gun at his feet."
  9. Also, if you go frame by frame, you see him seemingly calm with arms at his sides for several seconds, up to one second before shots were fired when the camera is off him. Not at all what I'd call "brandishing" a gun.
  10. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/cops-release-photo-keith-lamont-scott-shows-gun-nearby-article-1.2803052 "The photo, taken by a witness just after the shooting, shows two police officers hovering over Scott as he lies facedown on the ground. An apparent firearm — which police circled in red — is lying inches from his feet, which supports the police account that Scott was armed when he was shot. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police chief Kerr Putney released the photo while refusing to make dashcam video of the shooting public, saying Thursday that "transparency is in the eye of the beholder." North Carolina ACLU spokesman Mike Meno criticized the department's release of a photo that supports their narrative while withholding the video. "
  11. If you pause the video and go through frame by frame, you can see that the black cop was trying to put black gloves on, then threw them down. The man in red then picked the gloves up and threw them back on the ground. The first guy then gets a different pair of gloves on. Those are the only gun-like objects I see. The photo that the cops say shows the gun has it down by his feet, where there is clearly no gun in the video that the wife recorded.
  12. Here's a list reddit has going of the questions and possible results for the patronus test: https://m.reddit.com/r/harrypotter/comments/53yufn/pottermore_patronus_test_all_possible_questions/
  13. I didn't mention my other Pottermore results. I'm Ravenclaw, Thunderbird, and My wand is Elm wood with a Phoenix feather core 10" and Unyielding flexibility. I match one son on Hogwarts house and the other on Ilvermorny, (as does DH, though opposite).
  14. Anybody take Pottermore's new quiz to find out your patronus? I can't believe how many options there are (somewhere around 150 have been reported). Somehow, my middle child and I both ended up with Tonkinese Cat. My oldest got Lynx. DH got Bay Stallion.
  15. I've got two boys and we have a very boy-heavy homeschool group. It drives me crazy how much some parents get involved in every little tiff. It just prolongs things from what I've noticed. This is something that really bothers me about boys, but I've noticed that there are some things they really need to work through on their own. There was a boy who was always picking on my younger son. He'd get him so upset that my son would lash out and push him (the boy was in my older son's grade). At this point, other kids would get the grown-ups involved, telling on my little one for pushing. I tried to talk to him about staying away from the boy. Finally one day, my older son saw it start to go down. Other kid was teasing my little one, who pushed him. Other kid then pushed him to the ground, got on top of him and was squeezing his face. My older son pulled him off and punched him in the face. It's been over a year now, and since that day they haven't had a single issue. It makes no sense to me at all, though I'm glad it's done.
  16. I find it appalling that so many here are making excuses for this girl's behavior. Anxiety, ASD, whatever, is absolutely not an excuse to bully and threaten people. Catering to people's diagnoses should not mean accepting such behavior. If she hasn't learned yet that she shouldn't communicate with others like that, she needs to learn very quickly.
  17. OMG, I would kill some kittens for that! I did get chocolate though. Currently on my second snickers bar.
  18. This has been an awful week. - we're fixing up the house to sell, so bleeding money there - a chronic toilet-clogger clogged the toilet beyond repair and the plumber had to replace the whole thing. - DS broke his glasses - car had to have the fuel pump replaced - we were supposed to have the tank on E for that so while we're driving around burning gas, we get a flat tire. At 8:30pm with all three kids in the car. - DH is taking online classes which means I spend 3-4 hours a night tutoring him after the kids go to bed. He's not a pleasant student. Lots of eye rolling , "when I am ever going to need to use this?," "this is stupid," etc. - about the time I finally get to sleep, the 2yo wakes up and gets in our bed and rolls all over me. - after three years of pregnancy and nursing without a monthly cycle, it appeared last night. Full force. I just want to curl up in bed with a heating pad, but DH is taking a test on campus all morning (and texting me very rudely because apparently I'm in charge of knowing all his passwords and I told it to him incorrectly). And then in the afternoon, someone is coming to do work on the house and will be in and out of the bedroom. AND THERE'S NO CHOCOLATE!
  19. Singapore Standards 6A question here. 1/6 of a group of people are children and 1/10 are boys. What fraction of the group of people are girls? DS and I did this: 1/6=5/30 1/10=3/30 5/30 - 3/30 = 2/30 = 1/15 But, the teacher's guide says 5/30 + 3/30 = 8/30 = 4/15 We cannot figure out how this represents the fraction of girls. What are we missing?
  20. We're going in January for the Celebration of Harry Potter weekend. DS wants to do Diagon Alley first and then ride the train to Hogwarts. Seems like a good plan to me. Does anyone know if my mom can go through the rider line with us for the castle and then not go on the ride?
  21. Thank you. I appreciate you guys helping me work through this. I was up all night thinking about this and mapping out where we can do things over there. I think most everything I can replicate over there, but I think I'll want to keep our pediatrician (hopefully not needing to go often!) and scouts, at least for now. We would be closer to some things like our church though. The comments about utilities reminded me to ask and hers are significantly lower. Water/sewer is priced less because she's in the city, electricity is less because her house is better built, has newer AC, and shaded by trees. We pay $200 a year for trash pickup but hers is included in her property taxes. Property taxes are double ($600 to $1200), but with taking PMI out of the equation, we'd be coming out ahead there too, especially when considering the trash is paid for in there. We had a realtor come to the house last night and it looks like we've got some work to do to get out of here in as good of shape as we can which will be difficult with DH working and going to school, but she's willing to work with us on timing too. On the one hand, I just want it done, but on the other, I don't know where to start with all that needs to happen!
