  1. Well, if I were you then, I'd consult with my doctor again *and* get a second, and then maybe third opinion--being careful to not try to search out the answer I want to hear--to gather all the information I could to make an informed decision.
  2. And I just thought candy canes had a bend because it made them handy-dandy to hang on the boughs of your Christmas tree. I'll just be sittin' over here, under my rock, wondering what else I miss on any given day.
  3. Like everyone else has already said, it would be your health I would worry about. If that is not a concern? Then you just have to do what's right for you. Family size is a very, very personal choice that, for some reason, people feel perfectly justified in passing all sorts of judgement on. Well, it's really no one else's business if you have six kids, or eight, or two, or none at all. And I don't know about you, but it's not the passing of my youth I mourn with the knowledge that I won't have any more babies--it's that I won't have any more babies. Man, I love babies! But again, that's *me*. Plenty of people hate the baby stage. Personal choice, like I said. :)
  4. If you're referring to my comment, I don't think it had been answered, at least not with the details you posted. I was just saying I was trying to say the same thing you did, only you gave more detail.
  5. The difference between Tonya Parker not performing marriage ceremonies and Kim Davis not issuing marriage licenses is that performing marriages was never part of Parker's job. ETA: or, what mommaduck said with much more detail. I think we were posting at the same time. :)
  6. Yes, though I think it's more likely she's being used as a pawn by specific group in an attempt to prove that religious freedom is being curtailed by the SCOTUS decision.
  7. I absolutely think the original topic still bears discussing. If I get a vote. The story is still unfolding (with Davis heading back to work, and supposedly with the intent to halt the issuance of licenses again). Plus, I think the overall discussion is not only interesting but important in the context of the progress (or change, or whatever you want to call it. Obviously my personal bias considers it progress) happening in our country right now. Let's not close it yet, please.
  8. I didn't change my name. Our kids are first name, middle name, my name-his name.
  9. You know, I've seen some memes making fun of Kim Davis' appearance (her hair, etc.) and I really feel that, not only is how she looks completely and utterly irrelevant, it just hurts the credibility of the opposing opinion. It's petty and just detracts from the real issue. But when I saw her husband at the press conference? That's the same thought I had--they are playing this up. Not that there's anything wrong with overalls and the big hat (like I said...irrelevant), but that they are trying far, far too hard to make themselves into some sort of picture of a movement (or someone is trying to make a symbol out of them, anyway). But the overalls at the press conference just created an over-the-top caricature that really just makes it that much harder to take them seriously.
  10. If you don't like being told you are "a hater," maybe you should re-read and think about what you just wrote.
  11. I also did not read Tranquilmind's post as saying she struggled/overused; maybe bibiche did not, either. My initial assumption was that TM stopped drinking for religious reasons. I re-read TM's post after I read yours and I think it could honestly be construed either way.
  12. Hold your breath, it gets better...
  13. Those of you who think this forum is all that shocking or is frequently hateful, I have to say, wow. Y'all don't get out much. lol.
  14. (I know, I'm quoting myself. The ultimate in naval-gazing. lol) Here's another link, which seems to answer my question: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/judge-orders-kim-davis-freed-kentucky-jail-n423541 So, yeah. It looks like she's just going to pull the same stunt as soon as she goes back to work.
  15. The Martyrdom Circus! This has potential...
  16. Wait, I'm confused (or maybe I missed something). I thought the judge's order releasing her said that her name is to be replaced on the marriage certificates with "Rowan County" or whatever. So the article Mergath linked to says her lawyers believe she will halt the process again, once she's back in office, because the certificates have her name on them and that's her point of contention. So is she just going to refuse until new certificates are printed? Or are they not removing her name from them at all? Or... ??
  17. Absolutely. With my own work (and I don't work directly for the government) I am limited. I can't even discuss how or why I'm limited. I generally dislike the argument "if you don't like it, get another job," because I feel that's often used unfairly (it's not always easy to "just get another job"), but it's kind of the bottom line, isn't it? I knew what I was signing up for, and if I was that uncomfortable with it, or morally opposed, I would have to look for work elsewhere.
  18. This doll is obviously a shameless hussy with no self-respect.
  19. No, of course not, because that clerk would not be following "God's Law." There's only one God's Law, and it's the one Kim Davis and her supporters follow.
  20. Hits: Build Your Library (uses SOTW, and I'd include that in our "hits" list, too) Beast Academy Singapore OPGTR AAS (when we used it; eldest quickly outgrew it) WWE (also quickly outgrown, but was good while it lasted) MCT (grammar island; probably too soon to also include sentence island, but so far we like it) Various supplemental/enrichment materials, like Zaccaro Primary Challenge Math and logic activities from Prufrock Press. Misses: Right Start math Spelling Workout Moving Beyond the Page WWE (I know, both lists. Eldest loved it...until he hated it. lol) FLL Sassafras Science (this is a little unfair because my son *did* enjoy the stories; however, it's atrociously written, highly annoying, and I'm not sure my son learned much. Thankfully, he was an early reader and I just tossed it to him to read himself and moved on to other things) REAL Science Odyssey (I see it's in my siggie. We never really got off the ground with it. I should update my siggie...)
  21. Not that it would change my opinion of the matter (I agree with everyone else about the matter of the gift card), but curious: This final project--was it a community service project, or more of a personal enrichment type thing? The way I'm reading it, Kid B participated throughout the year in community service projects, raising money for the organization, etc. Business Owner threw a party and rewarded the kids for their community service, correct? So why would Kid B *not* be deserving of the gift card in the first place, since he did in fact do all those things? How much did the final project tie into why they were being rewarded with party/gift cards, anyway?
  22. Is nothing south of Columbia an option? If the commute will be to Ft. Meade, I would look in/near Odenton, Crofton, etc. Easy commute and easy drive to DC, Baltimore, or Annapolis. Easy drive and close to BWI (you said travel is important). Nice neighborhoods. It has been a long time since I lived in that area, so I'm not sure what home prices are like or what the homeschool resources are (I know there is a secular co-op in Annapolis, but I don't know anything about it/haven't heard any feedback). I agree with Hellen that areas vary quite a bit, so if at all possible you may want to try to spend a little more time in different towns and get a better feel for them before you make your decision.
