My youngest son is going into the 9th grade and we are going to use Apologia biology. He requested to do biology. Chris in VA I was wondering what you used for environmental science and physical geography and astronomy? My oldest son does not want to do physcis or any of the advanced Apologia courses so I think this might be a good alternative for him. thanks

After high school
momof2boys replied to laughing lioness's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My oldest is going inot the 11th grade this fall and he plans to work with his dad for a year after graduation and then he says he will attend college after that. My husband and I would prefer that he go straight to college after graduation but he is one of those kids that you cannot force to do anything. We tried to push the issue with him and it just made him all the more determined to do things his way. So we have backed off and have decided to let him choose his own path.(even though this is hard for us) -

I have way to many books that I think my son would enjoy for American Literature(I literally have pages and pages). So I need to narrow the list down. What are your not to miss books from each of these authors? William Faulkner John Steinbeck James Fenimore Cooper Ernest Hemingway William Golding Washington Irving Nathanial Hawthorne Thanks

9th grade son will : Bible/theology-daily bible reaing and study, Cornerstones Starting Points(leaning toward this for theology) history-will study American history with his older brother this year and then we will go back to ancients after that. We will be using BOb jones US history textbook as a starting point and will add in Sp Western Civilization book, primary source documents, literature for the time period and various writing assignments. Science-Physical Science maybe Apologia just not sure yet Math-Bob Jones Algebra 1 or MUS Algebra 1 Language Arts- IEW, literature american history and probably using something like the WEM, grammar is something I am not completely sure about as of yet. spanish-Rosettat Stone PE- basketball with our homeschool co-op? Electives: Computer Science, carpentry, health using Bob Jones text I think this is about it. When I write it out it it looks like we will be doing plenty this year. Now to get my 11th grade sons planned out.

First we are Southern Baptist and my son states that he does not want to change denominations. His reason for wanting to study theology is to gain a better understanding of the Bible and other religions in order to be able to defend his faith with confidence out in the world. Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been looking at cornerstones Starting Points curriculum and am leaning heavily toward that. Thanks:)

I am starting to plan for my sons 11th grade year. Last year for 10th grade history we used ABeka. It was easy and since I was working full time it fit the bill. However, I am no longer working and would like to branch out with history(sons favorite subject) but there are so many choices. I am thinking about Sonlight, Biblioplan,TOG, Paul Johnsons A History of the American People to name a few. I have even thought about using the WTM suggestions. Would love to get others opinions on the above mentioned curriculums/books. Also how do you add in papers for them to write about? DO you use a prepared literature program or something else? I would also love it if you all could expand on your literature program with your highschoolers. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and respond!! :001_smile:

Notgrass and Beautiful Feet
momof2boys replied to mama26's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Beautiful Feet guides. I think that there is so much in the Beautiful Feet guides that personally I do not see that it would be reasonable to try and combine the two. It just seems to me that you would waaaayyyy more than you could reasonably cover. JMO:) -
Has anyone used the Uncle Eric books and guides for their childs gov't/economics? If yes what is our opinion of using them for this purpose? thanks
