  1. Isn't David Quine/Cornerstone Curriculum connected with Christian Reconstructionism?
  2. :iagree: Whatever happened to the idea of the American Dream of owning your "own" home...not relying on the former homeowners to keep being responsible for something *you* are buying? I'm not crazy about offering a homeowner warranty on any house I sell, either, although I know some people like them. There is no way you know how some people take care of their appliances. I'm afraid they would tear it up just to get a new one. That TV commercial of a kid using the dishwasher door as a diving board comes to mind. :crying: I guess I'm old fashioned and remember the days when people bought a house as is (before the popularity of home inspectors). It was a "crap-shoot" as to how long things lasted until repairs needed to be made. AND if someone can't afford an appliance if and when it goes out, maybe they need to keep renting or buy within their means. JMHO :coolgleamA:
  3. Could it be possible that Anna was given the list of "safeguards" from her MIL?
  4. They're from Arkansas and it was reported this past Spring that the population for the NW Arkansas corner is now half a million. We have lots of access to medical professionals. If not, there is UAMS/Children's Hospital in Little Rock...4 hours away. They've been there before.
  5. My "sweet" is Russell Stovers sugar-free candy, but I can only eat that in extreme moderation (I won't tell you what my boys call it :blushing: ) I'm type 2 and my son is type 1...low carb/high fat is what helps both of us and is what our Endo suggested to live by. I've lost weight (10 lbs more and I can go off the meds, according to my doctor) and dropped my A1C. I'm hoping/praying/fundraising for a cure for all T1D's. http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/burger_recipes.html Scroll down to "home" for more info/recipes.
  6.  ""Josh was a boy, a young boy in puberty and a little too curious about girls," says Jessa. "And that got him into some trouble. And he made some bad choices, but, really, the extent of it was mild – inappropriate touching on fully clothed victims, most of it while [the] girls were sleeping." Jill, 24, adds that they "didn't even know" about the molestation until Josh had confessed to their parents. "None of the victims were aware of what happened until Joshua confessed," Jessa agrees, adding, "My parents took [us] aside individually, and they said, 'Here's what happened,' and of course at this point, you're shocked." "I was scared," says Jill, but she adds that she was also "sad" to hear about what her brother had done, "because this is my older brother, who I love a lot. It's conflicting."" http://www.people.com/article/jill-duggar-jessa-duggar-josh-duggar-not-pedophile-fox-news-megyn-kelly-interview?xid=socialflow_facebook_peoplemag
  7. As of 2014, the average family size is 3.13 (.13 must be the cat or dog?), so I guess I have a large family and can weigh in on the comment being derogatory or not. I thought it was funny, but then again I know these people and live in the area. I know what's behind the Quiverful/Gothard/Christian Reconstructionist agenda. :glare:
  8. :iagree: People are remembering the Arkansas incest "joke" he made in 2008. Could be, JB is keeping Josh from saying something else just as stupid.
  9. You're making perfect sense. They've been Gothard's poster family since the 90's, as the model family for the homeschooling community to follow, so they've had an image to maintain.
  10. :scared: ....good grief. I can see them saying this. It's all about them...not the kids. :cursing:
  11. I didn't either until 2010. It was then that I found out about the Christian Reconstructionist Movement and the many connections tied to it, including the homeschool community....THAT made my brain implode. :ack2: I'm ashamed to admit that in the beginning, I was involved in it without knowing all there was to know about the "agenda"...I distanced myself from it all super fast! Julie Anne from SSB may help to explain the agenda.... Bill Gothard, Mike Huckabee, Sex Abuse Coverup, Political and Social Influence, and an Agenda ETA: I couldn't get the link to work above...so here it is-> http://spiritualsoundingboard.com/2015/05/28/victim-of-bill-gothards-teachings-speaks-out-about-josh-duggard-scandal-mike-huckabee-bill-gothards-dangerous-agenda-and-influence-in-political-arena-and-society-at-large/
  12. From an older Arkansas Times article in 2008...this must be the building JD would've done his rehab in... http://www.arktimes.com/arkansas/a-day-shelter-in-the-old-va/Content?oid=865453 Interesting quotes from the article: "In 2002, the Little Rock Police Department downtown patrol and special operation division moved into 12,000 square feet of renovated space on the ground floor of the old hospital. Gothard paid for its renovation and leases the space to the city for $1 a year." "Gothard operates the Little Rock Training Center at the old VA hospital downtown." (Looks like it was possible that Gothard was there during JD's rehab?) "“It's going to take a substantial injection of money … whether Gothard or we do it,†Stodola [LR Mayor] said. He said he was “committed†to solving the city's homeless problems before the VA space could be ready. “I've got a letter today from Channel 7 about defecation on Main Street and people being afraid to go outside and have lunch.â€" (HA! So much for that idea panning out...we saw a lot of homeless people in and around the capital bldg. the night before we were to visit it in 2013...we were less than a mile west of it, but I don't know how far we were from the old VA bldg. The homeless were "bunking" into doorways and "sheltered" areas around 5pm. We saw a few urinating on the sides of buildings.)
  13. I began using natural progesterone cream (Emerita Pro-Gest and then switched to Life Flo ProgestaCare-OTC at a local health food store) after my last pregnancy at age 39. I had two pregnancies in my late 30's, but I had never experienced post-partum depression with my other babies (in my 20's) like I did with these "late-in-life" babies. My husband said it was night and day difference after I began using the natural cream. Gone where the mood swings, foggy thinking, bloating and a host of other symptoms common with premenopause. It's been a few years since I've used the OTC cream, but I remember rubbing it on (changing places morning and night) after I ovulated and then stopping once my period began. One thing I found out is that the women on my side were "estrogen dominant" and many had had problems with cysts on their breasts and fibroid tumors in their uteruses. At one point in time, I grew tired of the routine and so I quit using the cream for over 6 months and my mammogram showed a cyst that was surgically removed. I didn't slack off from the routine again, but 3 yrs ago, I knew I was going through menopause and noticed HUGE changes again. I had a panic attack, cysts showed up in my mammogram, foggy brain, MAJOR night sweats that soaked my jammies and bedding, hot flashes on the hour every hour, incontinence (thought I'd have to have the same surgery as my mom) and my butt felt like it was dragging my tracks out. I sought a doctor who was into bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). After many labs, my doctor said my estrogen was low and because of that my progesterone was really, really low. So, now I'm on a compounded cream with estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone (asked if he could bump this up, too). It took me 2 yrs to find the right compounded combo, but I haven't had a change for almost a year. I have 2 more months to reach being "period free" and then I'll be officially post-menopausal. :hurray: I've changed my diet, exercising more.... btw, bumping up the estradiol caused the incontinence to go away--doctor said it would....and now, I've lost 30 lbs. since February. The foggy brain has gone away, too...although I do get distracted easily and forget things...dr. said he couldn't fix everything. Suzanne Somers has books to read about BHRT. I read some from the library and bought "I'm Too Young For This:..." Her lastest "Tox-Sick" looks like it could have some good info in it. Hope I haven't bored the life out of you, but this is my journey with natural progesterone cream. I'll use the compound cream as long as I can.
  14. My dd is PCOS...according to the late Dr. John R. Lee ("What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About...." books), progesterone is very helpful for PCOS. http://virginiahopkinstestkits.com/pcos.html (scroll down to the bottom). Also, read the books ...Stop the Thyroid Madness by Janie Bowthorpe.... her website has good articles, too, for taking dessicated thyroid (Armour)... http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ This might help, too-> progesterone/hysterectomy http://progesterone.com/hysterectomy/
  15. Ugh...she's sucking up to them....... http://megynkelly.org/159400/a-christian-defense-of-josh-duggar/ ETA: looks like this is not her official page...sorry....but I'm still sticking to my story...it'll be a fluff piece...I'm sure of it.
  16. I'll wager that the interview will be in favor of the Duggars. They wouldn't put themselves out there if it wasn't going to go their way. :glare:
  17. You're exactly right and this is what we experienced in the short amount of time (about 4-5 months) we were around ATI families. I didn't know these people from Adam, so I was always excusing myself from the moms to go check on my kids. I couldn't decide if it was arrogance or naivete (maybe both?) that they thought their kids could do no wrong when around their "like-minded" families, but then again, I've known lots of family/friends over the years who've thought that way, too.."My kid would never do that!" I'm not that type of parent.....I remember what it was like to be a kid back in the day. The only reason I stayed as long as I did, was out of curiosity. :lurk5: My husband wanted to leave "the whackjobs" sooner, but I had to see more. It was one of those "surreal moments" that I never thought I'd see firsthand. There was no way I could be brainwashed into their way of thinking (I'm an independent thinker/headstrong and like my jeans/t-shirts), but the experience was interesting, to say the least. :w00t:
  18. "Josh was raised in Arkansas, the first child born to Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar. He accepted Christ at the age of seven, was homeschooled and graduated from High School at the age of sixteen." http://ja20.com/ourstory/ Hobby Lobby Ray Comfort
  19. I've been lurking in the shadows reading all of this here and everywhere online, but I couldn't help but comment on this......thank you Arctic Mama for posting this...you're right...Moore nailed it.
  20. Back in the day we called MLM's a pyramid scheme. Some "pyramid's" were (still are) Shaklee, Amway, Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Creative Circle, etc. I like some oils...one of my favorites is called "Two Old Goats" and it has eo's in it. My husband and I like it for our arthritis or aches and pains (on occasion it's both). I've used natural progesterone cream OTC until I needed a doctor's compound prescription to help me get to the "other side" of menopause. :hurray: BUT YL is everywhere--church, homeschool groups, family/friends, neighbors, etc. I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor when one claimed YL oils would cure my type 1 diabetic son..but then again, I've had other well meaning people claim diets and other fads will cure my T1D child, too. Many still don't know that Type 1 and Type 2 are different animals. <_< I used to go off on a rant  but now I just change the subject (if it's someone I care about) or walk away. It's not worth my blood pressure to rise because some have $$ for eyes. I think my cynicism just oozes out of my system now, because I'm not being asked about it anymore. Or if I get the occasional, "Have you heard of YL Oils?" and I respond with a "Yeah, I have."
  21. I'm a Ginger and began coloring my hair when it faded to a drab dark reddish brown in my 40's. My kids would get asked where they got all their red hair. I quit coloring it 2 yrs ago when I turned 50 (very liberating, I might add B) ), and the silver-ish gray is showing up all around my head. Although some red-copperish color continues to show up, especially if I get out in the sun a lot, but I now have natural highlights. My mother, a 72 yr, old Ginger, has never turned completely silver/gray...it's still mixed with dark gray and light silver. It's quite pretty. Her hair is straight and she keeps it short. I keep my hair a little longer than hers, because I have natural curly hair. I've learned to embrace my gray-ing hair color. :001_cool:
  22. A name I would've used if I had had another girl is Samara.
