  1. I have the same question. I just called Peace Hill Press and they told me where to pick up in the suggested curricula, it is as follows: Rod & Staff - Following the Plan ABeka - God's Gift of Language B Shurley English Level 4 I am concerned about changing...I love Jesse Wise's approach to learning grammar, and more importantly, so does my son! We have been using Fix-It! as well and my son loves finding the mistakes. IEW says this is a stand alone grammar curriculum when used with their writing program...which we do use. But I'm not sure if I agree. I feel really lost!
  2. I forgot to say, "Yes, it's the print book and CD". Excellent condition.
  3. Yes, I am willing to sell. I will pm you.
  4. How long does it take your third grader to do their math? What math curriculum are you using?
  5. We started with Saxon...my son HATED it. We switched to Horizons until two months ago...now we use CLE and LOVE it! I had never heard of it before April. They have lots of samples as well as placement tests on their website.
  6. We are doing R.E.A.L. Science Life and I had a hard time finding the books as well...finally gave up after wasting hours looking for the anatomy coloring book they suggested...I finally found it on Amazon for $45!
  7. We have done them a couple of times...both wet and dry. I found they were a lot messier if you soaked them and harder to find the small bones. Doing them dry was a little less disgusting.
  8. We are learning the states and capitals by region using Trail Guide to US Geography by Cindy Wiggers. It doesn't take a lot of time and my son loves it! A nice supplement is a series called The States...available on DVD on the History Channel website.
  9. I purchased this curriculum and found it to be not what we were looking for. It's sitting on the shelf collecting dust. My son is in 3rd grade. We started Trail Guide to US Geography this year and love it! I purchased the DVDs called The States and I use that with the Trail Guide...my son loves geography now and is learning and retaining a lot!
  10. I don't know anything about MFW but we did use OPGTTR and had GREAT success! I can't say enough good things about that curriculum. My son is now in 3rd grade and is an excellent reader. Have you looked at CLE Math? We started kindergarten with Horizons and switched this year to CLE, I wish I knew about it way back when.
  11. We found success with CLE...switched to CLE this year from Horizons. My son hated Saxon but loves CLE.
  12. I would suggest All About Spelling...if you're afraid because of the price, remember Marie Rippel has a one year, no questions aksed, refund policy. We love AAS!
  13. We used Horizons for K until a quarter of the way through 3rd. We now use CLE...my son loves it!
  14. Hi, I live in Burlington County. There is a very active group and co-op called Living Water. You can check the group out at http://www.lwhe.org/.
  15. My son learned all the letters and sounds from the Leap Frog Letter Factory video. I taught him what the vowels were and we started at Lesson 27. It worked great! I love this program!
  16. I pay $30 per month for a one hour, weekly class for my son.
  17. We are in our third year of using Truth Quest History. We started with American History for Young Students I. We spent two years on this guide, digging pretty deeply on topics that interested my son. We love the Childhood of Famous Americans series, especially the ones written by Augusta Stevenson. You can spend as much time as you want each day reading...some books are longer than others and aren't doable in one sitting of 20 minutes. I feel that my son as definitely gotten a great grasp on Early American History using this curriculum.
  18. I also recommend Truth Quest History. We started using it 3 years ago with my son who was in first grade. You can dig as deep as you want or just skim the surface, it's up to you. We spent two years on that guide, but we covered things intensely. It covers Exploration to the 1800. It does require a good library. We love the curriculum! When we got to the Boston Tea Party we also watched Liberty's Kids. If your library doesn't have it, you can get it on iTunes.
  19. This is our third year using AAS. At first it was tempting to speed through the book...it's easy, right? However, I had a friend do that and she ended up having to repeat the entire level again because she went too fast. It appeared, at the time, that her daughter "got it" but over time she noticed that it hadn't really sunk in. We do one step every week. Some days the lessons are quick and I wonder if I did enough. When dictation was added I decided to break it down over three days...doing 2 dictate phrases and 2 dictate sentences each of the three days. Now we are in Level 3 and there are 12 dictate sentences each week...I break that down to 3 or 4 sentences over 3 or 4 days. Now they have added "Writing Station" and we do that another day...but we always complete the step in one week.
  20. We have been doing the following since kindergarten...my son is now in 3rd grade: All About Spelling Truthquest History Horizons Math (but considering a change to CLE...any thoughts?) First Language Lessons Son Light Read Alouds Growing with Grammar
  21. We have used FLL since first grade...my son is now in 3rd grade. From what I can see, a lot of what we're doing in 3rd grade was introduced in the first/second levels. In those two levels the definitions were introduced for noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, etc. They also memorized the lists of prepositions, helping verbs, linking verbs, etc. I can see that they are re-teaching/re-enforcing those things in level 3...I don't know if they do it in the fourth level as well. Also, they started sentence diagramming in level 3. I would have to say that you would be better off starting with level 3 and doing it at a faster pace if you want to play catch-up. I can see that some important foundations are being laid in third grade. IMHO, I don't think it's necessary to do Levels 1 & 2.
  22. We have been using Horizons since kindergarten, my son is now in 3rd grade. I don't like that the TM doesn't give you real teaching to do and the student book doesn't do a good job at explaining new concepts but I thought that was just the way it was everywhere! My son told me this week how much he hates Horizons and asked if we could switch to something else. I have spent the entire weekend researching math curricula and have come to CLE. For those of you who switched...are they are the same level? Can I start him on CLE 300? Of course I'll do the placement test, but I was wondering if those who switched found any gaps? I noticed that Horizons didn't concentrate a lot on metrics and CLE seems to have have a lot of metrics. I also wonder about geometry...Horizons did a little bit, but didn't cover angles and points, etc. I saw in the placement test for CLE that there was some of that. Any help/advice you could give would be great.
