  1. Hi, I have a ds3 (just learning letter sounds etc..), ds6, dd8, dd11, ds14 and two older girls that are doing "their own thing"... Kim
  2. Well..just when I thought I had it figured out :001_huh: I really am trying to simplify my life a bit w/ school, have 4 I am "teaching". I had thought TOG would be good, then I realized what I am really wanting a curriculum to walk me through geography, history, great readers etc..but I really want it all laid out. I don't like, "have them learn these continents this week", without a worksheet or something that tells us "how" to do this. With 7 children, I am really wanting something easier on my brain. I tend to not do real well with stuff like that...does this mean TOG is out..ha? Oh...boy....I am focusing this year on reading, writing, arithmetic with my youngers, spelling w/ my olders and Language arts skills getting caught up so the other needs to be sort of "light" or it won't get done...does this make sense? Any ideas? Thanks! Kim
  3. Hi, Several years ago someone had emailed me a list of all the Sonlight books in Tapestry of Grace order. I kept it for a LONG time, had many people emailing me asking me for it and then I lost it. I have now decided to use TOG but would love that list again. I believe I had originally been given that list from someone on this board, can't remember. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks so much, Kim
  4. Oh....that sounds good! I like having print copies! Thank you for the info!! Kim
  5. So...when you get print and DE do you get the whole printed copy? I was confused as to how that works.
  6. Hi, I have a brother printer, it is not a color printer. I do have a color printer but it would be costly to use. Do I want the Digital Edition or printed from TOG. Also...the template for the lapbooks, does it make it harder to put them together, I am not a "crafty" person but love the idea of these lapbooks, cut and paste..ha! If I get the template, as I have at least 2 kids, probably 3 that would use it, and get their colored paper, is that all I need? Is what prints on the card stock usable w/ a Brother, black and white printer ? Hope this makes sense! Thanks! Kim
  7. My daughter has finished TT algebra, algebra 2 and Geometry and wants to do consumer math her senior year. Any suggestions? Thanks, Kim
  8. Yes Merry...thank you for the reminder. I appreciate everyone's input. I brought up grammar w/ my older girls last night and they said "EASY GRAMMAR" hands down. I have a question about Easy Grammar...if you don't mind. I am NOT good at grammar. Are there enought explanations in the book and which one would I start with? Also..on Easy Grammar is there a writing component? I really want to use SWI w/ IEW, I think my kids would love it. I had started looking at Hake English because it has everything it looks like but I am going to be doing AAS for spelling/or SWR with him (not sure yet on that). I like the Hake because it had vocabulary built in but maybe the Progeny Guides would be good. I had thought about doing Sonlight "loosely", mainly for the read a louds/readers etc...but.... Just thinking out loud..please let me know what you all think. I have really struggled with this son, I get fed up and decide on Switched on Schoolhouse because we seem to bump heads a lot. I don't like SOS for him, he just hurries through it and then on a quiz or whatever he can't look back so I end up printing it out anyway... Okay..think I am done for now..ha! Thanks again for your help. I have spent hours and hours mulling over things and I just need to decide and get moving. Kim Kim
  9. Oh..thank you so much! I do have another question, people have said it is phonics and "whole word"....are there a LOT of "sight" words? Kim
  10. I am wanting to do PAL but am curious if anyone has used it for awhile, it would mainly be for ds6 and dd8. Kim I love the "idea" because we are going to use AAS but...I don't like the time consuming thing, is it easy to skip certain parts of the reading and move forward at a quicker pace? Would it be good to fill in some phonics gaps for my 8 year old?
  11. Actually...it helps a lot, thank you!!! Yep..mine wears me down terribly! I have thought about AG also, I too like that it can be covered in a few years verses years of book after book. What is BJU Reading?
  12. THANK YOU THANK YOU for the great ideas, exactly what I was looking for. I have one child that has been so hard to get "caught up" in this area. Not because he has any specific learning problems, mainly just life happens, 6 other children, he has thrown me a loop because he has not been "self teaching" like my two older daughters. He I have to push and push and push and sometimes I just get worn down, to be honest. He will do the work but I want something he can do w/ little help from me. He goes a lot w/ his dad during the winter months, they do hunting and camping etc.. so I need stuff he can do on his own or w/ a little help. Thank you for the ideas!! I appreciate it. I have sort of stalled out on him. Kim
  13. Okay....if you had a year to really buckle down and get a student "caught up" in spelling, grammar etc...pretty much all of Language Arts, what would you use. I am getting exhausted trying to figure this out, for spelling, if the student is in 6th grade, would I use AAS or SWR? It seems AAS would take a lot longer and be more costly, however...it would get done, I love the lesson plans. Grammar, I have been thinking about R & S or do Analytical Grammar but then what else do I add. Someone said you could jump in Rod and Staff at about level 4? What else is considered to be in the area of language arts? Vocabulary? There are too many options, would love suggestions. I had wanted more "self teaching" things. We don't mind workbooks but.... Spelling is important so I don't mind doing the teaching in it. Anyway....please let me know your thoughts, I am going crazy. I have a child that really needs to buckle down and get busy... Kim (homeschooling mom of 7)
  14. Thanks for all the replies...okay...so if I wanted something for geography you won't "get started" in a book and not be able to finish that book right? I read somewhere that you don't get the entire book. I know you don't get the entire book all at once but once you are done with a section you can go to the very next section till the end? So...if you find a book you like you do have access to the whole book not just all in one printing? The lady I talked from EM was well...I was totally confused..it is making more sense now! Kim P.S. I would use for Pre K, K, 2nd , 4th, 6th...I would use many grade levels as I have 5 kids that could benefit from this stuff!
  15. $70 for one year, is it worth having? I talked to a lady today and it was a bit confusing. If I want to use their Geography or LA worksheets is it ONLY to supplement another curriculum? Is it just bits and pieces of info or can they "learn" with these worksheets? She was very adamant that these are just supplemental items, you don't have access to full books yet it has a deal for setting up lesson plans? Not sure this is making sense.....I don't have a "geography" curriculum for like the younger kids but I would like them to learn some things.. Any ideas on what all you get and if it is worth it? Thanks! Kim
  16. I was wondering about what it is like reading books on the Kindle Fire...thanks for that info! I am not interested in newspapers or magazines etc...I thought the Kindle Fire would be neat for the kids, like on a trip or for reading books in color or maybe videos every once in awhile but...I really don't want to spend $200 and barely use it?? We only go on vacation once a year and we don't take very many long trips so....
  17. I do not know which one to get, what is the main differences? I am mainly wanting one to read books, listen to music. It would be nice to have one that had apps for kids, like for the car or whatever but not sure.... Thanks! Kim
  18. Anyone have a weight watchers group on here? I would love to "meet" up w/ someone, I am ready to get going again...very discouraged right now about my weight. I have done well with WW in the past, very well. I do not go to meetings but do WW at home. Kim
  19. Well..unfortunately I am out. I just tried to do their "sample" lessons and my computer does not download fast enough. So...I did get an email reply about how to pay and if everyone needs to start at the same time.. Well...good luck, looks like a really, really neat program....wish I could do it :glare: You can determine how you want to pay. One person can "collect" the monies from your group members, but only one person's credit card will be on file. So, one person will have to be the responsible "bill to" person. You can start at different times, as along as the last person starts before the August, 2012 cut-off date. Also, the students can also start different history eras...they don't necessarily need to start the same program. I hope this information is helpful! Gloria G. Stoudt
  20. I am excited about it...I am not sure how to do this as we would have to pay w/ one credit card and we would need 10 people. I need to make sure it will work on my computer. We are out in the country, I don't have "high speed" but we don't have dial up either...our connection isn't the fastest. I will check that out although at one time I think I found out it would work! One other thing, not sure if we will all have to have the same "start date"? Kim
