  1. Thank you....I wasn't sure what all DITHOR covered but when I go to the website it says "required" under packages so...I wasn't sure if there were many references to it in the books themselves, like Preparing? Also..is it difficult to teach from? Kim
  2. Okay..so if you wanted to do something like Progeny Press guides, that would replace DITHOR? I had the DITHOR book once and it looked complicated, is it easy to teach from that, especially if this is a weak area for me? Grammar, Writing, Composition, Literature..yikes! Kim Phonics Road is going to be our Language Arts program but she doesn't do a "book study" until Level 2 so I guess that would not be the same as DITHOR, so..that is not an issue :001_smile:
  3. Hi, Do any of you using HOD NOT use DITHOR? Is it truly necessary? I am going to be doing Phonics Road and am not sure if DITHOR is doable also? Kim
  4. Well...I got IXL and my kids love it! It is cool, they go through the topics, earn scores, then earn rewards, which is basically just clicking on square to see what is underneath. But..they love it. It also sends me weekly reports on Sundays telling about what the kids did...pretty cool! Once a child is signed up they can work on any of the grade levels, any topics they want or need! Kim
  5. Hi, I am curious if anyone uses this? Is it mainly for practicing areas of weakness, does it assess the child and let you know where the weaknesses are? Trying to decide between it and Math Whizz. I am wanting something to help improve areas of weakness while they actually are using a different math program, especially for a child who is behind in math.
  6. You know what..that is the thing around here, I feel like we need lots of review. Well..just ordered CLE for my 8 year old...still working on the 6 year old.
  7. You know what...I had the Activities for the AL Abacus and sold it a long time ago....wow, that is a good idea, if I really can't let go of the "idea" of RS just get that....
  8. Okay...CLE it is, Math Mammoth drove my 8 year old nuts...not sure why but I think she would LOVE the workbooks in CLE. Now....would I be nuts to try RS w/ my 6 year old son or should I just ditch it all together :tongue_smilie: Geesh...what is it about that program that I really want to try? You know what it is... a LOOOOONG time ago I tried Transition w/ my older girls and I LOVED how it taught mental math, I thought it was soooo cool!! Wow...I've got to get it together, seriously, decide and just go and then go to the next level the next year, I am gettin to old for this, starting on my second round of younger ones, you would have thought I'd learned my lesson :banghead:
  9. Thank you Rainfox, That is so helpful...I am really needing to make a decision soon...which is difficult for me..ha! Yeah..I really like clear cut, easy to use, I am a fan of things telling me what to do on day 1, day 2 etc...even if I choose to skip some things. I like when it tells me what manipulatives to use and how. I have so much going on that trying to figure out HOW to teach something frustrates me to no end! AND...I am so bad at deciding and then looking up something else etc...geesh....drives hubby nutso! I have dedicated the next year to getting caught up and I really need things that will be "super easy" to teach, no guessing, no trying to find out what I need or what manipulatvie to use. I, honestly, am less concerned about mom time as I am making sure when I do need to teach it it is easy for me to teach...if that makes sense! I am a Christian so the CLE would be nice, in that regards. Thanks so much for everyones help!! Any other opinions? I am deciding and I am not changing so.., I know I can't really go wrong w/ any of them. My 8 year old I bet would do good with CLE as she likes workbooks! Maybe I could do RS w/ my 6 year old boy and keep Singapore Essentials handy if we need a break, or MM worksheets..I have 1 A. He is still in K math though...
  10. Thank you.... I guess I should have included Singapore in this.... I do have a question about Singapore also...do you feel the IG provides enough info to teach and what all manipulatives do you need? Kim
  11. Okay..here I am AGAIN! I am trying to get an order together, just when I think I have it all figured out. I WANT to do Rightstart, I have 7 children, I keep thinking I will try again w/ my two youngest boys, 6 and 4 (almost) but... At this time in my life I am starting to think I need to give up my "dream" of doing RS math, seriously..it makes me sad. I think it is a great program. I have to be realistic. I love CLE math, I like that it incorporates drill and flashcards because as my children get older they lack the quick recollection of facts. I want to do this "right" with my younger 3, oldest of those being 8. I like spiral and repetition, I know MM is good though... Just wanting to check my thinking. My older ones are doing TT, which they love, I am going to have them do work on their facts and maybe do a year of Math Whizz to help tutor them or fill in any gaps. OK..got that figured out. So...I have seven children, 4 need active teaching w/ a 4 year old that I am going to gently start on some things. We are going to be going through some intensive LA work the next year, I am devoting the next year to filling in some gaps and getting caught up w/ my older two. Let me know what you think...I want my kids to have a good solid beginning in math, but..it has to get done and I just am not sure RS will get done as much as I want to use it! Kim
  12. Yeah..I like TT, mainly because they like it and do well....I thought about MUS because they have books and not "grade levels" and I like how he teaches math. My son doesn't really like to "think about math problems" though...he wants to just get it done. So...do I let him do TT and just get him doing math drills or MM drills to get him quick or should I go back to teach more of an understanding? Sorry if I am beating this to death, I don't mean to just need it clear it up in my mind, I need lots of repitition till it sinks in or something clicks and says "yes...that is the answer"! I am dedicating the next year to getting "caught up" and working on our study skills, getting more organized and structured so...what I get I am sticking with regardless, this is my goal for the next year. I have changed programs too much. I am getting ready to purchase all my school stuff so....trying to get this right in my mind, the way we want to go.. Thank you all for your help and please forgive me if I repeat myself. I get to thinking "yes...this sounds great", then I think of a reason it might not work :tongue_smilie:
  13. Okay...one thing I was "thinking" about, please let me know what you think. I have 2 kids in Teaching textbooks, which they love! However..both of these I don't feel had a "good foundation" in Math (understanding math facts etc..) Would it be terrible to use math u see for basic understanding, have them go through it quick, along w/ TT since they love it so much or just go w/ the MM worksheets. I would love for them to "see" math and "get it" but don't want to "go back" .... Kim
  14. Thank you for that! Wow...great plan. I wonder if I can keep him in Teaching textbooks, which he loves and use the MM worksheets to go over the skills he doesn't get, mainly math facts?
  15. Thank you for the ideas. My son hated Math U See, I had thought about that but don't want to go back down that road..I don't think. He is older now though...hmmm......... Math Mammoth would be a "cheaper choice" ...would it be good for reinforcing those topics? Thanks for the ideas...checking them out! Kim
  16. Hi, I have decided to take a year and work on getting my oldest son caught up in math. If you had a year to really work on moving up a few grades in what would you used to help really cement multiplication and division? Kim
  17. Also...I need to ask, I am very interested about learning Greek and Latin roots etc...I find the study of Language fascinating and important. I, however, am not educated at this at all. I know Mrs. Beers teaches Latin, do you feel it is thorough and "easy" for me...also...where does Greek fit in?
  18. Okay...so...how young would you all start PR? Just wondering how it compares to WRTR and SWR....both of which I have and want to use but my mind, at this time in my life, needs pretty simple.
  19. So..ok, tell me know, how do you save $. By just getting 1 student kit?
  20. What kind of words are kids reading by the end of Phonics Road 2? If price is an issue, can you go through PR 2 and then just use WRTR or Wise Guide? Not trying to be cheap really. I love the idea of PR...just am not sure I could swing it for all 4 years with all of the children I would need to buy student sets for. What grade level are they reading at after level 2? Kim ALSO...how is grammar taught etc..is it "easy" to understand as grammar/composition is my WEAKNESS!
  21. Hi..yes, I have heard of Robinson. I have owned it :001_smile:. I think for me it was the books, my kids tried to read them and just couldn't get into the older books, plus having older kids who already do not like to read... Well..my two older girls love reading, my son does NOT! I use some of the ideas though...
  22. Wow...switching from SWR to WRTR. I am starting to think the WRTR MANUAL (:)) would be easier to work from , I had always thought SWR would be easier but the SWR book just well...it is so much info :willy_nilly:
