  1. Oh yeah, I actually got mine at kmart as that was the only big box store within an hour. I think they were Eclipse brand, cant check now as they are in storage.
  2. I invested in some good thermal black out curtains years ago and they were worth every penny. Dropped the inside temps 10F right away. I dont know what the current brands are but I had just read lots of reviews online and went by that. I ended up with white ones since they had the better reviews and put my pretty curtains over them. This winter I used them to close off rooms/areas and there would normally be a 20-30deg difference between the rooms.
  3. I get where your coming from but what if your kid is the next Stephen Hawking? Side by side they can look the same but without testing or the right supports these kids get missed and sadly a tester can miss the fact the kid is smarter then he is if he just makes assumptions and someone else catches the fact the kid is gifted.
  4. Cant hurt to ask but i've very rarely seen floor plans offered here.
  5. *snicker* to the top comment. :) I totally understand what you mean, prices keep rising. I know last month saw yet another huge surge in prices and it felt like every single thing I bought went up at least $1 when compared to the previous month. I wasnt able to buy any where near what we normally buy. *Hugs* on going hungry, been there:( I have been so thankful I have found 3 different food banks that offer fresh food this month since prices went up and we couldnt afford enough. If we could eat gluten or milk/beef we could be doing really really well but have to turn down most of whats offered to use since were celiac with a beef/dairy allergy. I was over the moon last week with the amount of produce we have been given and weve all eaten decent or at least had full bellys and I will be able to put some in the freezer or can. I currentally live in a town with a population of about 2000ppl and the mobile food bank came through last week and I think half the town showed up:( Have you checked food banks within an hour or so? 2 of the banks I went to are an hour from here but its worth it in gas to go every 2 weeks. One bank told me about the other and they dont mind ppl going to mutiple banks, especially in our case where we have to turn down 80% of whats offered. Between the 2 we might get what a typical person gets at one place. Anyway if it not taken it gets trashed so they are happy to give it to someone who will use it. No one should have to go hungry because they couldnt afford food.
  6. My youngest HATED car rides with a passion which was not good since it was 3 hrs each way to the childrens hospital and we went several times a month. The solution was to play movies, she was only a couple of months old when we started and she loved the colors in Shark Tale. Now at 8 shes a lot better but the first few years were a nightmare.
  7. I could build that easily and cheaply! Wish I had the measurements already but I wont until we move in.
  8. Lamo, or at least lock any cabinets, the toilet seat unless you remove the water and if you have handles on the tub make sure they are locked in place. Better yet turn off the water to the bathroom period, yes, kittens can and will turn on water being little monkeys. Hide the TP, that is like the best toy to them and they will shred the entire roll. The cat will not stay upstairs, if your dog will harm the cat you will need to rehome the cat. Kittens are extreamly social, they need a lot of attention which is why people often get 2 kittens so they keep each other company. That said kittens are nuts and will keep you all ALL FRIGGIN NIGHT wanting to play and closing your door will make them scratch at it and cry for you. Im not crazy enough to adopt another kitten, teens or older only lol. At least by then they are happy to go crazy at 2am without you.
  9. A floor table with pillows is something Ive thought about as well but thought about it taking up space, your idea of adding folding legs and hanging it could make that a real option. I dont have enough band width left on my phone to watch videos right now:( Sigh.. I need to go back to cooking...
  10. Thats kinda what were doing now. We have a double bean bag I picked up at Goodwill for $8 that we LOVE! (Its the only furniature we have besides 2 folding chairs right now) It is so comfy for a single person. I've thought about making 2 more and using it to make a pattern and stuffing with mostly packing peanuts. Im just tired of the looks I get when ppl show up and find we dont have a couch. Of course right now we dont even have a kitchen table here. Bugs me I gotta think about others comfort in my house when they visit when I live here ya know? Selfish I know, Im just not one to follow mainstream anything but this living room thing is just bugging me for some reason. I probably wont even get to do anything with the space until winter unless I manage to pick up a bunch of hours at work, thats not likely until Nov, Dec though.
  11. Its almost 1pm and I need to cook a weeks worth of dinners today since temps go back into the 90s tomorrow and turning on the stove heats up this place fast. Im still wiped out from going into the city yesterday:( I also need to run to my moms (about an hr round trip) to pick up several dozen eggs we will need for the week and take her groceries I picked up. I just wanna crawl back into bed.
  12. Duh, nevermind. Have to bring up reply screen and not use quick reply.
  13. Anyone know how to sub a thread on mobile?
  14. Im in! Im already trying to figure out xmas, I know what I want the family gift to be, just not sure I can pull it off and I have no idea about individual gifts.
  15. I was given 30lbs of big red apples yesterday that I'd like to can since my only apple eater has been refusing as of late but she loves applesauce. Ive never canned it before, about how many quarts will it make? Ive seen really different amount on various websites and im running out of data on my phone to keep looking, darn images! Cant wait to get internet back at home.
  16. They can not require deposits for charge extra rent by law for companion animals. Its a mood point anyway, the place just needs a drs note. No deposits. Im wondering of we can really afford it anyway, its a few months away before I even consider getting one since I know right now we have way to much going on and very little money.
  17. Yep, its 30% of my income when combined with electric.
  18. Lol, we never actually eat at the table. I use it for kitchen work mostly. Id like us to eat dinner at the table but its rarely worked out for one reason for another. This place has very little counter space so Im guessing the table will again get used as my counter. Its a farm table that seats 6-8 and usually is covered with crafts/sewing and baking stuff.
  19. I will have to ask if they check for heart worms but its just a summer thing up here. We have short cold summers so we dont have huge blood sucker problem.
  20. I have no idea. Weve never really used the space before, family movie night would be about the only thing besides all the therapists and stuff that visit and want a chair but they can use the kitchen table :) Outside of playing wii or tv weve never used a living room which is why I dont mind it but with such a small space overall I think I will need to.
  21. Id heard that the costco stuff was good. Guess I better read more. I would expect to groom my own dog, my mom has always done hers and it does not seem difficult. I am shocked by the cost of heart worm medicine.
  22. The new place has a tiny living room, I'm guessing 10x12 tops and thats a generous estimate. My kitchen set up alone (Gluten free with food allergies means everything from scratch and therefore a well equiped kitchen lol) will eat up half the dining area which may mean the table gets put between the dining room and living room. Which may put the living room at 8x8 or so. I googled both small space and micro living but everything coming up looks 3-4x the size of what I have to work with. I dont even own any living room furniture so Im starting from scratch. A full size couch would eat half the space lol. Any blogs or sites I should be checking out? Ive never lived in a space this small.I mean I have as a 1 bedroom with a large bed and livingroom but Its a 2 bedroom with lots of storage/pantry space and I would be surprised if it was over 600 sq ft. I forgot to ask when I was paying the deposit today. The bedrooms are freaking tiny, about 8X8 with wall length closets. Good thing we dont own a lot of stuff. It really is a decent apt and means no more long commute and we can have a social life, I just have no idea on what to about about the living room. Hmmm just picturing it now and we have a 900 sq ft 2 bedroom and everything at the new place is half what we have here... Im just glad everyone is already trained to use earphones for all electronic devices:)
  23. I dont know what the current PC term is but could your son be a little person? Genetics would dx that.
  24. I put down the deposit on an apt in the city today (yay! No more 1hr 15min commute each way!) and im thinking ahead, I want to get dd14 with ASD a companion animal which we know from past history she does really well with and it really helps her anxiety. We more or less babysat a dog for a month in the past and it taught me NO GSDs, especially with severe seperation anxiety. We will probably adopt from a shelter which means they come fixed, chipped, vaxed and their 1st vet visit with you. I will only agree to a small poodle type creature with real hair. How often do dogs need to see the vet for check ups? Avg cost? Im assume dogs can get shots at a clinic type event like we did for our cats growing up. What about dog food? Anyone know if the costco stuff is gluten free? This dog will be in inside dog and totted all over with us when possible. Outside of leash, collar, harness, tags, bed, toys, boots and coat (gets sub zero in winter here with lots of snow) what else do they need? I do plan to research breeds and such but just trying to get an inital feel if we can even afford a pet. My mom says we cant afford the vet bills but she also runs her animals to the vet for every little thing who is happy to run expensive tests. I mean she got our beloved male cat Bugsy a sex change when he kept having urinary issues, it was well over $1k 20 years ago. I dont think most pets need to visit as often as hers seem to.
