  1. I was an NILD therapist years ago and saw some amazing improvement with my students. The important thing to remember is that it is a long term thing. so many places want you to do 6 months of therapy and then they are done. Most of those places are teaching children to cope with a problem. NILD focuses on overcoming! I am positive it will be a great experience for you. Also, the more engaged with it at home, the better results!! Good Luck! :grouphug:
  2. I actually did the body ecology diet last year. It was WAY too difficult for me. I really struggled with it. The only thing that keeps me going on McDougall's diet is the carbs! It really curbs the sugar cravings and I think as long as I keep it as whole grain as possible, it stays healthy. It really makes a lot of sense to me the way he describes our bodies and how they process food.
  3. That would be good! I've been on the diet about a month and I have to say, of all the diets I've tried, it's actually been one of the easiest for me to stay on! Anyone else want to chime in??? :bigear:
  4. Here's the link to the samples page. Let me know if you have any questions! :001_smile: http://teachmejoy.com/samples/JOHSample.pdf
  5. I would like to hear some success stories from anyone using this diet as a way to heal your body. I have recently been diagnosed with Sjogren's and I started this diet, but I'm too afraid not to take my meds because it was ruining my life. Any encouragement or personal experience stories would be greatly appreciated! Even non-success stories welcome!
  6. You might want to check out Winter Promise if you're looking for something with lots of books, but lighter than SL. I really love their programs. :) They do more hands-on. We're preparing to move overseas as well, but we will be in Africa with no hopes of library or shipping. We'll take everything and I've been collecting books for awhile.
  7. The public middle school in our town just had a couple of kids get in-school suspension for a few days for having oral s*x on the school bus. Another kid was video taping it...
  8. My family is moving to the Democratic Republic of Congo after we go to French language school in Quebec. I am planning on sending my children ages Kinder and 3rd grade next year to a French school, but I'd like to start now to get them started before next year. I've found some great French programs, but I'm afraid that most of them will be too "old" for them and not hold their attention for long. We really need something that will help us all excel quickly, but I really want something fun for the kids so they will enjoy learning. Any ideas???
  9. I don't necessarily agree with this. If you look on the website for the National Institute of Learning Disabilities (NILD), they teach cursive only. We have just had my son tested and he has some LDs but has done beautifully with cursive. I have had 2 levels of training with NILD and they never said to go to print if the child was having trouble. We just worked slower. It is important to have the strokes down before actually going on to the letter as well.
  10. I taught cursive first to my son and I highly recommend it! It helped him on a variety of different levels. I wasn't totally happy with the Cursive First curriculum which I used for awhile, so I ended up writing my own. (Which is 40% off on my website right now at www.teachmejoy.com using code NEWYEAR):001_smile: I am now starting my Joy of Handwriting with my dd.
  11. I did the same thing. I started having acne problems after my 2nd child. I ended up being allergic to Proactiv and out of desperation started using Butt Paste. I know, I know... sounds weird, but I have to tell you, IT WORKED! :D I put it on thicker at night after cleaning my face well and after another face wash in the morning I put on a thin amount. If you put on too much in the morning, your make-up doesn't go on well. Even though I've cleared up, I still use it! FYI: The Natural green tube doesn't work as well.
  12. I absolutely LOVE We Choose Virtues! I have reviewed them on my website here: http://teachmejoy.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=13&zenid=7989c2d61724abac28a04828876c8353 You Can also get 15% off your order if you use the link below and code: VIRTUE15 at checkout. http://www.wechoosevirtues.com?ap_id=teachmejoy
  13. I didn't have a chance to read everyone's reply, so I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not... I struggled with this concept for awhile until I found this book called A Special Place for Santa. It does an awesome job of telling who Santa Clause really was and ends with him kneeling at the manger. I loved it and it "freed" me to continue with Santa Clause without guilt. I believe it's a Catholic book, but I am not catholic and still love it! http://www.catholiccompany.com/special-place-santa-book-p3001227/
  14. Teach me Joy. :) It's on sale right now on Currclick.com...
  15. I have a nook color and I LOVE it! The screen doesn't bother me at all, and I love being able to have books that actually read to my 4 year old. My ds and dd really love the apps and books they can read on it. I am drooling over the tablet, though.
  16. Is this the same one that creates a hands on program for the SL users? We used that program for their Core 1 and I thought they did a great job with it. It really added to our study with SL. I don't know about the full program aside from that.
  17. :iagree: We are about half way though it right now with WP and I haven't had any problems with it at all. I think it shows both sides of the coin very well.
  18. I don't follow the pearls example exactly, but I do have their book, and it doesn't say ANYTHING like what is described above. There were no examples of carrying a switch in a bra either.
  19. Had to throw in Teach me Joy's program, Joy of Handwriting. I wrote it after using Cursive First and wanting something a little different. :D
  20. I had a ruptured cyst in highschool and I have never experienced pain like that before. I couldn't move at all. I just lay there crying for a long time. Since then, I've had 2 children naturally with a midwife and still that pain was one of the worst in my life. I had no bleeding at all. It was horrible!
  21. I started using LOF this year when I realized my ds was not going to make it in 2 nd math. Instead of fighting with math every day I chunked our program for awhile an started LOF. He loves it! It isn't a lot on math concepts yet, but we're moving quickly and I have a feeling it will start building on that later. I will use it as long as it works for him!
  22. Oh my! I almost cried when I read this! I want this sooo bad in my home. I want to be exactly like you've described, but I have to say that the "cares of this world" have made me hard and I tend to get way too uptight and upset. If I don't fuss and yell, I tend to speak harshly when I'm disappointed with my children. Is the book that you mentioned strictly for Catholic families, or would it benefit a protestant as well? Could you give some specific ideas on how I could achieve the level of relationship when I'm felling so drained and uptight? How do you respond when they do something wrong and you want to get upset? :bigear:
  23. My library doesn't have the book, but I think it may be worth the money. Someone told me that there were different movements you could do before different types of activities (math, english, etc.) and I will try anything I can to get some focus during school! We started a strict diet a couple of weeks ago, and I think I actually see some imporvement. I'm holding my breath, though. I don't want to jump the gun. :tongue_smilie: Thank you for your replies! I would love to hear more! :bigear:
  24. I was wondering if anyone successfully used Brain Gym? I believe my ds may have ADD. We don't have insurance and can't afford a full diagnosis. I've been using diet to see if it will help and I think it actually has helped some this week. The Brain Gym looks great, but I really don't know what to get! There are quite a few books and I can't find anything that says, "Start with this book." What would be the best way to go? Any advice, please?!!?
