  2. Artistic Pursuits has some lessons that can be incorporated.
  3. Spelling is overwhelming! I've been looking for my 2nd grader and am torn between Spelling Power, AAS, AVKO & Natural Speller. At this point I feel like I should order them all and sell what doesn't work for us. ARGH!
  4. Thanks so much for the info! Btw, where are you in WI? We're north of Milwaukee and I would love to become part of an astronomy club :001_smile:
  5. We finished B and will move on to C this year. Dd loves it - she loves the games and it all really makes sense. There's a GREAT yahoo group for RightStart users and everyone is so very helpful and forthcoming with information. I LOVE RS!
  6. Wow, that's great! I'd been looking for something like this - thanks!
  7. The chicken thing was just too gross for me, so we did the apple as well.
  8. We use Rightstart and LOVE it! Dd does great with it and it's fun.
  9. Have you found any patterns for the Knitting Noddy? Dd has one and she gets tired of doing the same thing over and over (belt, potholder). I'd love to find something creative to do with it.
  10. Oooohhh, lots of fun things to look at there, thanks! I haven't seen that magazine, but I'm going to check it out. Thank you!
  11. I was trying to stay away from toy store/dept store models, and thought people here might have suggestions :001_smile:. Thanks, I'll check out the link!
  12. I'm not sure if "papercrafting" is the correct term to use - I've taken a few classes at a local scrapbook store learning things other than just making a scrapbook page. I've made notepad tins, recipe box tins and an "explosion" box using scrapbook papers. I am looking for a site that has a instructions or ideas for doing things like this since the classes can get quite expensive and it adds up fast. Does anyone have any resources (websites, books, etc)? I would love to do some of these projects for holiday gifts. Thank you! Amy
  13. I'm glad someone asked this, I've been wondering about AAS too. Has anyone experience with AAS vs. Spelling Power? Those are the two I'm debating between.
  14. Sorry to interrupt, but what is LCC? Looked on the abbreviation list but didn't see it. Thanks!
  15. We are thinking of getting a telescope this year but don't have $1000 to spend on a really nice one. Any suggestions for a cheaper (ie, less than $500) telescope? It will function as a school activity, but also for family stargazing as well. Thanks! Amy
  16. Last year I ordered a SOTW from their website (I think it was the activity guide and it was listed as "spiral bound"). I got the order confirmation and a little later got the order - but on the packing slip it said this item was no longer available. I was a bit peeved that they didn't email me or make contact earlier, so I sent them an email saying how disappointed I was. I got a phone call the next day from customer service and she sent me a different version with free shipping. Overall pretty happy with them, but wish they would have a different system in place for things like this.
  17. I think I've found my long-lost twin - I do the same thing! ;)
  18. We use Artistic Pursuits and my 7 yo dd LOVES it! It takes a few minutes to read the text, then we discuss the picture and then move on to the art activity. It's really easy and scripted, which is nice for me. One thing we are trying this year, based on a friend's recommendation (all 3 of her daughters are artists and she taught from this book) is The Drawing Textbook. It's available at RR and she swears by it. HTH! Amy
  19. FWIW we did a Flat Stanley project that was so much fun! We hosted some Flats in return for others hosting ours. We also sent our Flat to friends & relatives all over the world and got some neat things from our hosts. We included a journal with the Flat and our hosts took pictures with the Flat doing different things & sent back postcards and souvenirs. There are several sites with Flats you can make and Yahoo groups where you can meet people to host them or trade Flats.
  20. We really love Rightstart, but even just using the Math Card Games book to help her have fun learning might be worthwhile. The card games don't seem like "math" but they do a great job of ingraining the methods.
  21. My 7 yr old loves the Egyptians game from Mindware - it's a lot of fun and very educational! Also big hits (math-based) - Sleeping Queens and Zeus on the Loose.
  22. I'm not familiar with BJU, I'll have to look into it to see what it's all about. Thanks for the info!
