Sarcasm? Maybe. Meant to be a slap in the face? Absolutely not. I never made any disparaging remarks regarding the thread you are referencing. I'm just sharing. Guess you missed the deleted posts, huh. Me, too, but they were indeed personal attacks on me. I've made more mistakes than I care to remember. I'm sure a lot of us have.

I suppose you are assuming that the ten virgins belong to the groom? They do not: "As God referred to himself as the “husband†of Israel in the OT (e.g., Isa. 54:4–6), so Jesus pictures himself here as a bridegroom (cf. Matt. 9:14–15). It was the Jewish marriage custom (cf. 1:18) for the groom and his friends to leave his home and proceed to the home of the bride, where the marriage ceremony was conducted, often at night. After this, the entire wedding party returned to the groom's home for a celebratory banquet." Study notes from ESV Study Bible If you want to discuss this topic, I'd recommend beginning another thread. I'm sure you'll get many more responses. :)

Two anti-homeschooling articles.

Yes, you did miss that memo. They're handing it out in public school. -
We've been in Okinawa since last July. We have not returned to the States, yet, and I'm not sure when we will. A lot of our friends will Space-A back to the States, but you have to be patient because you may not get the first flight you try for, and sometimes you get "stuck" somewhere for a few days. If we were to go back to visit, I would Space-A back to the States and then pay for tickets back to Oki. Coming back seems to be when most people get stuck in Hawaii (which is beautiful, but expensive). We've been blessed to find a great church where we are very active. It is so nice to have friends that you know you can count on during deployments. Yes, sometimes I would love to be back in the States. Mainly to see my oldest son, who is in college, and to SHOP. We miss shopping, but we do a lot of online shopping and it is not exhorbitantly expensive to ship, since we are military. Priority mail usually takes about 1 week to get here. I would suggest you go to the USMC website for Okinawa. There is a lot of info regarding all aspects of the Okinawa experience. Another great website is http://www.okinawahai.com . It is fabulous! There are homeschooling groups on the island and I have not experienced island fever. It is a beautiful place and there are lots of things to do. Check out those websites, and if you have any questions pm me. :)

CC: Can I ask a marriage/leadership question?
Laura in VA replied to praisefor3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:grouphug: to you. I would encourage you to pray about it and I think it's great that you are not blaming your dh. There are several very wise women on this board and hopefully they will give you some sound, Biblical advice. -
Is an obese person less intelligent?
Laura in VA replied to MommyInTraining's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm sorry, but I just don't understand this post. You're asking us to give you our thoughts as to why someone would think that and if it is justified? It just seems so ridiculous. I wouldn't even waste my time trying to understand why someone would think that, much less whether they're "justified" in feeling that way. My opinion is if Joe Schmoe thinks I'm smarter than another woman because I weigh 125 and she weighs 250, Joe Schmoe is an idiot.- 104 replies

My son is currently taking Algebra 2 and will take Pre-Calculus next year, but Geometry has not been covered. I would like him to be able to complete a course over the summer. He will be taking the SAT in June (and in the fall) and he is currently viewing the Chalkdust SAT Math Review DVDs, so he is at least getting the geometry that will be covered on the SAT. I would prefer something quick and efficient. Yes, I realize that I dropped the ball bigtime on this, and I've kicked myself enough, so please no tomatoes. We have the Jacobs book, but I am hoping not to have to cover all of it, unless it's absolutely necessary. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Question about Reformed Presbyterian beliefs
Laura in VA replied to dangermom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
No, I have never heard of any Reformed churches that "believe" in Rapture theology. -
Speech Therapy Question
Laura in VA replied to Laura in VA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks for the links! :) -
My dd (4) has some articulation difficulties (beyond what is typical). She was in speech therapy when she was 2, mainly due to delayed language since she was adopted from China. Is there an online resource that would give me a list of words to ask her to repeat so I can actually list the sounds that she struggles with? I have to submit a request to have her tested at the school and I would like to be able to include a list of her weaknesses. TIA!

We had to put our dog down yesterday...

I am so very sorry. That's just heartbreaking. :grouphug: -
I had planned on beginning TOG in January, but I decided to wait until the fall. My ds is using Core 300 and my dd is using Core 7. My problem is I can't decide whether to use TOG year 1 (which I have) or SL 100 (which I also have) for my dd next year. I'm leaning towards beginning TOG so we can cover all 4 years before she graduates. My son is going to take the Potter's School Government and Economics courses and the Liberal Bias in History course. Do you school year-round? My dh has to deploy for 6 months and leaves in November, so I'm thinking of actually beginning our year this summer so we can take off the weeks before he has to leave. Plus, it gets so miserably hot here during July and August that indoors is the best place to be unless you're in the water! Thanks for the info regarding the open house sessions. Since we're 13 hours ahead of EST, I probably would not have been able to attend anyway.

When were the open houses for Potter's School? I completely missed those. My dd is registered for English 1. I'd love for her to be able to take English 2, but I don't want her to be overwhelmed so I've decided English 1 will be the best choice for her. Thanks!
-
You mentioned on another thread that your dc would be taking English from the Potter's School and I was wondering if you are still using TOG. If so, are you dropping the writing portion of TOG, or just using portions of it? Thanks so much!
