  1. I'd rather read a real book, and would rather get books from the library than buy them. But the Kindle is great for traveling, or when I'll be reading away from home.
  2. Here's what the Kindle site says: Your files are saved permanently, or until you delete them.
  3. Yes, you can highlight and take notes. I haven't used that feature much, so I can't comment on it. I swore I'd never get one, but I do a lot of traveling and got tired of lugging a bag of books around. I broke down and bought one, and I am a convert. LOVE my Kindle.
  4. and Winterdance, by Gary Paulsen. I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face.
  5. The Mitford books, by Jan Karon The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency series, by Alexander McCall Smith Sunday Philosophy series, by Alexander McCall Smith
  6. Sure, I'd pay for storage. It's a real pain to hide snowboards and table saws. :D
  7. If it were convenient, I'd definitely pay someone. But I'd prefer to supply the paper and ribbons. It would be even better if I could leave all the packages there and pick them up the day before Christmas, so I didn't have to hide everything. :)
  8. I carry pepper spray when I walk or bike, and I make the kids carry it when they're out too. But we don't carry it in our own yard. I don't know what I'd do. :001_unsure:
  9. This is my approach too. It would be very easy for my kids to sign up for things on a whim and then want to quit. Since they know this isn't an option, they really think it through before making a commitment. If it was your idea, and he didn't want to do it in the first place, I'd admit I made a mistake and let him quit.
  10. Did you figure it out? Did anyone leave a flat iron on? My dd once did this and the whole thing melted, smelling up the entire house. Good thing we were home or I'm sure it would have started a fire.
  11. Did you post in the social group? She usually responds quickly to those questions.
  12. They don't use this particular method. Here is a pamphlet describing the ways multiplication is taught in EM (starts on page 62). My complaints with EM were that they didn't explain many of the techniques, and they didn't ever get around to teaching the traditional algorithms.
  13. I'd be looking around for a free or low income clinic. She needs ongoing care.
  14. That was really interesting. Unfortunately, it gets unwieldy with high numbers. I tried 999*999 and got hopelessly lost. :)
  15. Yes, definitely. Immunity wears off, generally lasting 4-10 years, whether from the vaccine or natural infection. There is a vaccine available for teens and adults now.
  16. St. Olaf Grinnell, in Iowa, is a great school, but expensive. Most kids (85%) get financial help though.
  17. Well, first I'd have her tested for pertussis. There are numerous outbreaks around the country. My kids had it, and my son is still coughing after 6 weeks.
  18. I don't think we learned about him in school, but in the early 70's his was a household name, at least in households that discussed politics. It was a memorable name to me because it was fun to say. I remembered that he was head of Ethiopia though I couldn't remember if it was king, or president, or emporer, etc. I looked at wiki and didn't know anything about his other roles.
  19. I haven't started yet. But I did have the kids make their lists yesterday. Two of my kids will be easy. Dd 16 will not. Here's her list: Car :lol::lol: Right.
  20. .25 is a pretty small dose. I've taken it before, and it just makes me relaxed. I've tried taking .125 and it has no effect at all.
  21. On the blue toolbar at the top of your screen, click on Community, then Members List. Then click on the column heading "Posts" and it will sort by number of posts. Jean in Newcastle is in the lead! You're on page 3. I recognize almost everyone in the first 10 pages although there were 3 unfamiliar names.
