  1. I have TOG Year 2 and there is nothing wrong with what is provided for the grammar stage.
  2. Here is a blog entry that might be of interest. http://blog.nutri.com/2012/05/vitamin-news-vitamin-d-does-not-take-the-place-of-uvb-exposure/?utm_source=Copy+of+Email+Created+2012%2F05%2F10%2C+11%3A33+PM&utm_campaign=Constant+Contact&utm_medium=email
  3. Are any of the AoPS books equivalent to a statistics course?
  4. PE is usually only required in high school unless your state requirements specify it. So you are probably good.
  5. I would be asking my doctor for my actual lab results so I had the numbers in my files. "Normal" thyroid levels are not necessarily normal and can really make you feel like crud, no energy, extra weight, etc. Thyroid may not be your issue but it is the first place I start when I start feeling crummy.
  6. Actually it might be a sign that the household giving the party is aware that some people may not have money for a gift and the host family would just like to have a fun time with friends without putting the pressure of that expense on others. Maybe in the day and age where you could take baked goods or something like that, a gift as a requirement might have been acceptable. And then you still feel like a fool because the other gifts are expensive ones ($20 is expensive to me) because all you can afford is a very inexpensive gift. LIKE!!!
  7. We have requested no-gift parties and I really appreciated it when people honored that. A card would be appropriate.
  8. The Older Beginner guide is Aesop/Homer on a fast track! So definitely not what you are looking for.
  9. My dd#2 was like that. It was when she was in 7th grade and did Analytical Grammar that things finally clicked. I now am in the camp of not pushing grammar in the early years unless the child is getting it. If not, wait and try again in middle school.
  10. Another vote for History Odyssey. I really like how it is laid out and the assignments. You can also make it more or less difficult by varying how in depth the assignments must be. (I've only used Level 2.)
  11. I think I must be missing something but isn't dictation used for spelling, not grammar?
  12. For me, a PE class isn't just about playing sports or doing physical activity. It is a program that has different focuses in an orderly fashion which work the muscles appropriately. Family Time Fitness intrigued me enough to purchase. I am hoping to implement it with our new school.
  13. It boils down to whether you believe that the parents are ultimately responsible for a child's education or if that is the State's responsibility. If it is the parents' responsibility then the parents must choose what is the best route of education for the child. If you believe the latter, than removing a child from PS to homeschool may require justification.
  14. He is so nice! Apparently he had a few session left to videotape. His schedule on the road of late may have made it more difficult to accomplish all in the timeframe he wanted.
  15. Tom Clark told me recently that they will hopefully have Geometry Module F available online very soon.
  16. Has anyone used Design for the Living® Microban Polypropylene Food Storage Containers? I found a 36-piece set for $35 and am thinking of trying them. Pros? Cons? Thanks.
  17. I think he said they should prove each theorem / postulate once and then do the application questions. If they need further practice there are other proofs available to do. Poor dd did them all.
  18. Dd#1 completed VT Algebra and learned a lot. Dd#2 is currently using it. Dd#1 learned a lot from VT Geometry but it was a struggle almost every day as she leans more toward algebra. She also did way more proofs in the first half of the program than she needed to. Only found that out after talking to Mr. Clark. I like how VT Geometry uses the algebra throughout as that is really important for remembering the algebra concepts.
  19. It is possible that parents feel that by high school a child needs the interaction in a classroom? Or perhaps it is because there are more opportunities for high schoolers in the school system.
