  1. This is a fun thread, Stacy! I would rep you if I could :001_smile:
  2. ETA: I try to be fair and balanced and not judge too quickly. I am also not afraid to punish wrongs. I think I would make a decent jury member (though when the opportunity arises I always seem to find a way to wiggle out of it...)
  3. I do see many of these old mill towns beginning to turn around now. At one point I lived in an old mill town in NH, which had a worse reputation than it deserved, IMO. It has cleaned up a lot since we left, and its residents are beginning to show some pride in their city.
  4. I have fond memories of living near New Orleans as a child. I remember playing in flooded streets, catching beads at the parades, eating beignets in the French Quarter, ducking the large flying cockroaches... okay so nothing is perfect...
  5. I know what you mean. I love New Yorkers! :001_smile: ETA: I have loved visiting New York, and I hope to make another trip this year. It is high on my list of places to visit, but I don't think I would want to live there. I am still a country girl at heart.
  6. I should also add that dh and I were "kids" from the country (NH/ME) when we moved to Waterbury (it was right after we got married). Talk about culture shock!
  7. The snow is pretty, and it makes the cold winters up here worthwhile. I hadn't thought about the bugs...
  8. I think I would love it, actually. I prefer hot weather to cold.
  9. The scariest place I have ever lived is Waterbury, CT. I have walked through the Big Apple (It is a beautiful city:001_smile:). I wouldn't drive through parts of Waterbury.
  10. Me too! Worcesershire makes great marinades. I also use a lot of tabasco and soy sauce. My guess is there is enough salt and preservatives in these concoctions to keep them for decades.
  11. *Deep Breath* I just deleted 20 or so of the older pm's. I feel so liberated!
  12. Kristi, I don't think there is any problem at all with keeping your first week or so low-key. You do whatever you need to do! This is the beauty of homeschooling. :001_smile: I hope you find some down time :grouphug:
  13. We are just about to the end of a two week Winter/Holiday break, and I have to say I needed it! I am ready and eager to get back to work. I have some exciting things planned for my two older children this spring. I think the next few months of school are going to be fun and productive. Of course, once vacation ends, I may need to dissappear from here for a while. :grouphug:
  14. The first year of FLL is a very gentle introduction. With my dd, I was able to jump right in to year 2, which teaches the same topics as year 1 and more.
  15. My 9 1/2 year old is 3/4 finished with "An Introduction To Word Processing", an Usborne publication which teaches Microsoft Word. She loves it, and has learned a great deal. I would like to continue with another program when she finishes with this. I think Print Shop would be a lot of fun and a natural progression from Word. At some point I also want to her to learn Photoshop and Excel, and some basics of web page design. Can you recommend any guides for these programs that would be appropriate for kids?
  16. You could also copy/paste your favorite messages to a word document. Who else is tempted to start flooding Spy Car's inbox? :Angel_anim:
  17. You are right, and I am sorry if my post was unclear. I think women who are healthy are beautiful no matter what their body shape might be. I also think that many of the women I see on the screen are *not* healthy. In fact I am often startled by their appearance.
  18. I often tell dh that God puts some people in our lives so that we can practice Grace :D (He hates it when I say that...)
  19. Patty, why can't you drink until February 1?

  20. Drew, I am drinking black coffee. The holidays are about over for me, and none too soon...

  21. It does sound like the kind of irreverant humor dh and I would enjoy. In a former life we were fans of The Simpsons. We also liked In Living Color.

  22. I think it is natural for a woman to want to be sexy and alluring. The problem is how the media defines "sexy" i.e. skeletal women who really should eat a cheeseburger or three. Women were made to have curves, and most look better with a little meat on their bones IMO. Now to convince myself of that... For me feeling "sexy" is tied to being healthy. Exercise makes the biggest difference, plus eating well and drinking plenty of water. Which I need to start doing again. Good luck to all of us as we start a healthier new year! :grouphug:
