  1. So when the druggie kills the four-year-old everybody will be demanding to know where the police were while he was speeding through the residential neighborhood. They just can't win, no matter what they do. :glare:
  2. I don't think it is happening. One style I had in mind is what I think is called a graduated bob. I found some pictures and showed them to her, and she yelled at me, "You're trying to make me cut my hair!" :lol: So, I told her that it was her hair and she could do what she wants with it, but I do think the style would look very cute on her. Most likely we will just be trimming her bangs as usual. :tongue_smilie:
  3. Her hair is always in her face. She has said for years that she wants to grow it long, but if I show her something that is short and very cute she just might be convinced. I really would like to give her a hairstyle, but I an so clueless about these things. Please share ideas, links and pictures if you have them.
  4. The question is: Is it perishable? Is it even biodegradeable??? :lol: ETA: *Said as she sips another Diet Pepsi*
  5. That was my daughter. I am happy to say that she has matured into a very sweet, cooperative child who loves to learn and will do pretty much anything she is asked. She is a perfect student. :001_wub:
  6. No hurry, Sunshine. We are all busy. {{HUGS}}

  7. I read the posts before I went to her blog. It was the "look at all that snow" response that tipped me off. :lol: I was actualy trying to determine whether to post that such a contest would be "morally wrong" or "okay as long as dh knows and doesn't mind". :o I am overtired...:leaving:
  8. I heard a rumor that the book didn't exist at the time the movie was produced. It was written later in response to demand.
  9. I just saw an awful flashback of the day a little girl who was once very stubborn sat here at the school table for three hours refusing to read 12 words on a phonics page. :glare:
  10. I shouldn't admit this, but... I thought at first you meant bare butts. :o
  11. I am not fat, but I do have a roundish face. Short hair is not flattering to me.
  12. DH and I saw it together last fall, and we enjoyed it. I hope the two of you get to go because the movie provides good opportunities for discussion. :grouphug:
  13. I do not teach for six solid hours. I usually give her a lesson, then give her an assignment. When she finishes the assignment we go on to the next subject. While she works, I take a few minutes with my k'er, remind dd to get back to work, change a diaper, remind dd to get back to work, make another pot of coffee, remind dd... The truth is it isn't entirely her fault, we have two little boys at large while school is in session, and it is a miracle she can concentrate as well as she does. She is a hard worker, and will do anything I ask. I couldn't ask for a better student. She just has this problem with distractions. For a few days I did try doing all her lessons at once, than leaving her with a list of assignments, but she would get lonely and board and it took her forever to finish her work. She is an extrovert who processes information by talking it out. She is also very relational and just plain likes to have me by her side. I guess that isn't a bad thing. ;)
  14. My dd is finding that a little Latin helps quite a bit with learning Spanish. :001_smile: So, Hornblower, what does the bumper sticker say??
  15. I show my efficiency by covering subjects the schools do not have time for, and progressing through material more quickly. I will show my efficiency by graduating my kids at 16 who are far better prepared for... whatever path they choose... then their 18 year olds. To answer Audrey, I think the long days bother me more than dd. I get TIRED! However, I learned today that my TSH is high (low thyroid issues) and I am hoping an increase in my medication will help. Generally, my dd LOVES school, and often asks for more time to study the subjects she likes further. I think we are doing well, and I think as she matures she will spend less time daydreaming, and become more efficient with her work. So I guess I am satisfied with things as they are. I am beginning earlier so as to finish before the afternoon slump. I am also alternating days with Grammer and writing as well as the foreign languages. This has helped us this week.
  16. We spend more time because we want to. There is so much to History, that I can't imagine how it is all covered in 3 hours a week over 4 years. Science is dd's favorite subject, and she often asks for extra time to study one or the other of these subjects. I do wish I could fit in more independant reading time. ETA: DD is easily distracted, and I think very often assignments take longer than they need.
  17. I agree in principle, but I think we have too many laws as it is. I can just see myself arrested for slipping a "D***" in front of my kids...
  18. We haven't decided whether we are going to let her turn ten!! It s a running joke in our home that dd is only going to be allowed to get so old, then she has to go backwards. In fact when she turned 9 last spring, I bought a "7" candle and put it on her birthday cake. She wasn't impressed! :lol:
