  1. For dinner guests it would generally take less than an hour to tidy up the main rooms and the bathroom, but I would SHUT THE KID's DOORS. If you want to see those also, I need 3-4 hours at least...
  2. Whaaa??? Who me??? No, Ma'am it was all HER! That woman Yvette.. uh-huh... she started it all Ms. Moderator...
  3. Can I just jump right into this thread about nothing, or do I have to read the other nine pages first??? I promise not to say anything of substance if you will please just let me join!!
  4. They can if they are taught. DH frequently hires (high school educated) employees, and supplies them with laptops so they can do their jobs, only to find most of them barely know how to turn the thing on  These kids don't even have basic competancy with the hardware they have already.
  5. My kids have always had access to educational computer games. This year we began computer training with dd (5th grade) in earnest. She is learning to use Word, and also learning to type. I think next I will let her have some fun creating with Print Shop, and eventually want to visit Excel, databases, Photoshop and web page design. I think nowadays computer skills are fundamental, and I consider them as basic as reading and writing. With that said, I think the school mentioned in the op already has all the hardware they need to teach these kids basic skills, and there is no reason to soak the taxpayers for any more gadgets. Oh, and I can usually convince even my most carnivorous child that a piece of broccoli will not kill him.
  6. For the past few weeks we have been worshipping with a new congregation. Today several people told dh and me this story about our 4 y.o. ds: He was in the nursery where a monitor had been set up to give a live feed from the sanctuary. DS watched the screen for a few minutes, then turned to the lady who was with him and asked "Is there anything else on?" :tongue_smilie:
  7. That was a very gracious response. :001_smile:

    How have you been?

  8. I wanted to add that I don't think there is any problem with it. If one of my kids wanted to go, I would do the right thing, of course: I would make their father take them! :D
  9. I have issues with the word "sucks". As a child living with my father I got into the habit of using it. Then I went to visit my Mom, who hated the word. She would slap me across the face for saying it, which seemed to happen out of the blue for me because the word had just become a part of my vocabulary. It still makes me angry when I think about it. We would be having a perfectly wonderful time together, then Whammo! She would hit me. I think my relaxed attitude over vocabulary is probably rebellion of sorts to the way I was treated. Ultimately, no matter how ugly they are, they are still only WORDS. I can't see myself ever treating my child that way over a word. So here you go, Mom: sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, SUCKS!!! Man, I need help...
  10. It is a means to an end IMO, not an end in itself. I don't think you need to diagram sentances to understand how they are put together, but for many of us it is a big help.
  11. We have been cell only for over a year. We love it!
  12. A few years ago I watched a fellow mom insist her preschool-age boy go into the sanctuary during a noise VBS music presentation. The boy told his mother "I hate the music!" She jumped all over his vocabulary, and completely missed the fact that the poor child probably found the music and the noise to be overwhelming. :001_rolleyes:
  13. The only one from your list that I wouldn't allow is "friggin'". It is too close to the Other Word for me. I also do not allow any expressions that use God or God's name because I feel they are disrespectful. My kids have been known to slip a D*mn or an A** with little more than a reminder as a consequence (they hear them from me occasionally...) I don't bat an eye to stupid, hate, or most potty words unless they are used to insult people. Kindness and respect are far more important than vocabulary. I also think that by reacting strongly to offensive words, we give them more power than they deserve and can actually add to their appeal.
  14. I think diagramming is an excellent tool for understanding sentance structure. It is worth learning, IMO. Besides, it's actually kind of fun.
  15. My understanding is that Satan can not read minds. He is, however, very good at understanding human behavior. :glare:
  16. Ah! I see that now. I was just trying to be funny anyways. *Cindy hangs her head and walks away sulking...*
  17. May I add a note to the new (female, younger than me) pharmacist: Please don't call me Sweetheart!
  18. Why did he have a rifle? To use the scope, maybe? In my region it is illegal to hunt this way. I have nothing at all against hunting, BTW. In fact if my kids were starving I would think nothing of poaching.
