  1. Also, check out these pages from Paula's Archive: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/fancy.htm#workbook2
  2. Join the Hannah's HS Helps Yahoo groups http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hannah_hs_helps/ There is a great SOTW2 schedule there in the files under History, and also notebooking pages and timeline figures.
  3. I am using CC as part of history/science at some times, and other times, we'll be doing our own thing. So I'll add in some SOTW2 and astronomy, for example, on days we don't do CC, but it will be low-key. For example, we may listen to a SOTW 2 chapter while coloring the page from the AG. For science, we're going to use the God's Design Series -- Our Planet Earth and Our Universe (from Answers in Genesis). We probably won't do many experiments, since CC does those, but we will do some reading one or two days a week from the books. I made a sample schedule for myself and have shared it with a few folks here. PM me if you would like a copy!
  4. I'm still thinking about how I will organize the notebooking pages. I'm leaning toward printing and filing in weekly folders, and then having DD put them in her notebook (tabs) after completion. For those still looking, here are some great links with ideas: Hannah's helps Yahoo Group has all kinds of stuff for SOTW and other resources: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hannah_hs_helps/ Paula's archive also has links that you may find helpful: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/SOTWmenu.htm
  5. Thanks for the feedback! This gives me much encouragement to start (and potentially skip) what is needed!
  6. Hello! I pulled my daughter out of school in January and spent much of the year catching her up on basics for what a first grader should know (math, especially). She is an awesome reader, but other things need work. This coming year, I especially want to work on writing and grammar for second grade. We have FLL and Complete Writer. We did some FLL this spring, and we also did a lot of Bible copywork and narration. We'll be doing CC in the fall, and so I know she'll get a lot of memory work through that. Do you think it would work to go more quickly through FLL and WWE 1/2? Should I just skip the FLL memory work since she'll have so much from CC? I don't want to skip essentials, but she did learn some things from me (former English teacher) and from school experiences, though the latter is haphazard. I'm just looking for a roadmap at this point. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  7. Yes -- Go to the first page of this thread, and I posted a link there.
  8. I am joining a group this fall (and will be tutoring as well). I think the interaction and accountability will be fantastic. We were not in any co-op this past year (my first year hsing), and I like the fact that there is a trained person teaching -- plus it sounds like there will be a lot of fun, songs, etc., while learning. If you do a search on these boards, you will find many ways in which people use CC as part of their planning, while others let it be a stand-alone day and follow another curriculum the rest of the week. I plan on trying to integrate the social studies with SOTW2 and the science with some of the Answers in Genesis God's Design science curriculum. So it will be a hybrid of what WTM stuff we've done already, plus adding in CC. Good luck with your decision!
  9. Awesome! I hope you are able to adapt it for your needs.
  10. After being inspired by Biblioplan and EasyClassical, but still wanting to do my own thing, I have worked for the past few weeks to make a weekly schedule for our second grade school year. This includes CC Cycle 2, SOTW2, Bible verses for memory/copywork, and Science from the Answers in Genesis God's Design series (Planet Earth and Our Universe). I have yet to add in the VP cards but can see where this would be easy to do so. I would be happy to share this with others to get feedback and so that you may alter it for your own needs. Those doing CC know that it is tough to line up everything, and this schedule has alignment at some times and definitely not at others. Please PM me with your e-mail if you would like a copy. I would love feedback as well, such as additional read-alouds and mapping suggestions. Edited to add: The schedule will refer to the CC weeks; you'll need to look in the guide for the sentences. To do so otherwise would violate copyright. Sorry. But my schedule will be there.
  11. BTW -- I have made a weekly schedule for CC, SOTW 2, Usborne, and the Answers in Genesis science stuff. This is for the year, for a second grader. If anyone would like a copy which they may tweak for themselves, feel free to send me a PM.
  12. I'm thinking of doing some of the Answers in Genesis God's Design series, also. I'm looking at Our Universe (astronomy) for fall and Our Planet Earth (ecology but also references to physics) in winter/spring. I think this will fall in nicely with CC but also allow for our own study time.
  13. There was a discussion about this a week or two ago. Check out this thread: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186902&highlight=MIF
  14. Just wanted to add -- I've seen where a CC community posted a page connecting Cycle 1 sentences and SOTW and VP cards. Does anyone know of a group that has done so yet for Cycle 2? (I'm in a new community and so we're still gathering materials).
  15. We will be starting CC in the fall as well, and I think it will add a level of interaction and accountability that we've been missing (we just finished our first year of homeschooling). I, too, would love to see the connection between the history sentences and SOTW. I went through Paula's archive and found the VP cards and SOTW list, but to add the CC sentences would be awesome!!
  16. Thank you for giving me so much to think about! I appreciate your comments about SOTW4 and age appropriateness. I'm leaning toward a SOTW2 focus for the year but with other readings and geography added in. Blessings! Gwen
  17. We did some SOTW1 for first grade, and there were times when we took a break, as it was "too much" and "boring" sometimes for my first grader. I ended up switching to Heart of Dakota Little Hearts for His Glory part-way through the year, and found the readings and work much more appropriate for K or 1st grade. (My DD was in 1st, but a young 1st grader). I think SOTW might be too much for K, but I'm sure others here may have a different opinion. I don't know about CHOW, but given your beautiful girl's background, the reference you describe would be a deal-killer for me. Maybe something like Galloping the Globe? It's mostly geography, but with lots of stories and references included. You could pick and choose based on her (or your) interest.
  18. We are going to join CC as part of our second year of homeschooling. I would like to continue using SOTW for history, but the way Cycle 2 of CC is laid out from Charlemagne to Modern times, I'm wondering if I'd need SOTW 2-4? Or should I just stick to medieval history study during the non-CC days? I'm also wondering if I could do something like Biblioplan, using the VP cards and SOTW. I could even make my own hybrid plan, perhaps? Background: This would be for a 2nd grader who is a good reader and who also loves art (so coloring pages, etc., are good). I also have a 4-year-old girl and a busy 1-year-old boy (who has Down syndrome and we are blessed to have mother's helper for a few hours each week so school actually happens outside of nap time!). We are conservative Protestant, but I'm open to options that are not such. Thank you!!
  19. This Mosaic link from the PP looks awesome. Thanks!!
  20. I'm thinking of doing Biblioplan Middle Ages for my soon-to-be 7 yo also. But I don't think I'm going to do the mapping. It looks like it will be too much, plus, we also do Classical Conversations and the kids will get geography there. I'm still on the fence about the time line. We don't have a lot of wall space, and I don't think the notebook is something we'd keep up with well enough. I may just get the plan and two coloring books (as my 4 year old will want to do some, too!). Would love to hear from someone who's actually done Biblio with a younger elementary age child.
  21. I'm also starting CC this fall with my 4 and 7 year old. I'd love to hear ideas for science as well as ways to bring together the two girls with readers/language arts. Thank you!
