  1. I have thought of this but was afraid of him getting wedged between the two mattresses. :tongue_smilie: Is there someway to prevent that? There is a heater vent along that wall so we couldn't put it right up against the wall.
  2. I am considering this for my dd next year. I was wondering how they handle experiments for the chemistry unit? I would love to hear how well this level was liked. Thanks:)
  3. I am in a dilemna. I have an almost 2 year old with severe reflux. Because of this he is up a lot a night needing comfort so he has always slept in our bed. I also have a husband with a debilitating painful neurological condition which makes sleeping very difficult. Even though we are in a king size bed, my toddler moving around all the time wakes up my husband which makes his sleep not so good and he has to work. My husband wants me to stay in the room with him and we don't have oodles of room in our room. I am afraid to put him in a toddler bed because he would be so low to the ground and I would be up high. We have managed all this time..but he is growing!!! Any advice for my crazy situation??:) Hoping the hive has some wisdom for me. Thanks
  4. Hits - DD(12) HOD -CTC has been amazing-she has worked efficiently and independantly. Copywork and narration were easily implemented and she loved all the drawing. MCT - love this program for grammar and poetry Lightning Lit 7 Moving with Math- helped my daughter really understand math. Pictures in cursive-beautiful Hits - DS(5) Memoria Press Kindergarten- AMAZING Misses - DS(5) McRuffey K Phonics and Math- not enough review and jumped skills to quickly. Too many parts, not really open and go for us. HOD- LHFHG - Great program but didn't have time to do it all and DS wasn't interested in the history books- more of science kid.
  5. I was thinking about using this with my dd. What have you liked/disliked about this program? Thanks :)
  6.:cheers2: Proud to be Canadian!!! But ohhh what a stressful game, and what a fairy tale ending....way to go Sydney Crosby!!!
  7. :hurray:What an amazing night!! What an amazing ice dance couple!! They are so connected and passionate, it was breathtaking. Very exciting for Canada tonight!!
  8. :crying: There are a lot of sad Canadians today!!!
  9. Well, 3 out of 4 of my dc were/are like that. My youngest is almost 2 and if I can get him up at 6am and get him down for an early nap, he will go to bed at a decent hour. But, if he wakes up after 7:30 am he is up for the day but down by 7pm which I really like. I know some mom's implement a quiet time for their little ones that don't nap, so there is still time for mom in the afternoon. I didn't know about this with my older 2 and my youngest isn't in a crib and wouldn't stay in his room alone without mischief. I am sure there are some moms who can give some good advice about quiet time, but just know this is normal for some children. :)
  10. I don't know if this is used in the US but here so many people say "cheers" instead of good-bye or thank-you and it drives me crazy!!! I feel like saying, "Where's the champagne!!" :glare:
  11. Hi, My ds(16) is very visual and I am looking at getting him a history book. I know that Veritas suggests Western Civilization but I was wondering if it is as visually appealing as the Odyssey? Thanks
  12. We love living on the coast!! But, the prices here are the highest in Canada unfortunately. Surrey/Langley are definitely less expensive areas. It's been a few years since we lived there and I am sure there are moms that live there still (we are on Vancouver island now) but I would expect the commute would be closer to an hour. The prices there would probably start about $400,000(Canadian) for a 3 bedroom. You could also check out www.mls.ca. HTH!:)
  13. Actually, it never crossed my mind.:001_huh: I thought the price was very reasonable with all the stuff that came with it. I guess I am used to Sonlight where you just get loose papers that you put in a binder for an IG and the First Start Reading is consumable so it was fine for us.;) Content is worth it IMHO.:)
  14. Thanks for the suggestions. He really likes fantasy movies so these could be interest him.:)
  15. My son loves to look at history/art books, but he is visual/spatial, but he doesn't read it as such. He is an amazing reader. Is there any great books that a popular among teens now? I just think that the books that I have given him have required work to read...classics with novel study.:tongue_smilie:
  16. My ds(16) has never found the love of reading. I feel like it's my fault because I was so picky about what her read when he was younger(only the best literature) and didn't let him just read for fun. Anyways, he reads the literature I assign for English and enjoys it but I would love for him to know what its like to pick up a book for fun and just read and enjoy. He loved Lord of the Rings. I would love to correct my mistake and show him some books that he might like that may not be classics but just books that guys his age enjoy. Is this possible? What books would you suggest? I appreciate your help!!:bigear:
  17. Are these basically just a lecture, with a teacher speaking or are there video clips etc. Thanks
  18. I've used HOD and Sonlight. Sonlight is mostly just a schedule and lots of reading of great literature. It doesn't provide a lot of structure apart from that. With HOD you get a lot more hands on stuff etc. scheduled in as well as reading. You don't read as many books with HOD either. I prefer HOD because I like everything laid out for me, including the fun hands on stuff. Sonlight had great literature but I had to come up with my own extra stuff. Hope that makes sense.:)
  19. I grew up 15 minutes from that "sacred grove" :D Yes, I can see an Emily Carr influence.
