  1. @Shannon, When I had questions about this program I asked an affiliate who is a regular on here. Her member name is johnandtinagilbert. Hopefully she doesn't mind, but she answered alot of my questions. You might send her a pm and ask her. I think she might have a blog but you'll have to check her member page. Hope you find some answers!
  2. Those of you who use the VP course, what grades is that for? Can you give me more details about it?
  3. We have just started phonics road 1 and I'm only 20 weeks into it. I have been wanting to get IEW because I have friends that say they love it. I was wondering if I do both if that would be too much. I didn't know how much phonics road was into writing.
  4. This is what I'm trying to figure out! There was a review about this product in The Old Schoolhouse magazine back in the fall 2011 issue but I haven't seen anything else about it. There must be someone out there who has seen this!
  5. Establishing Foundational Skills for Academic Proficiency. Has anyone ever heard of this program or know anything about it? www.efsap.com
  6. For months I've looked at different threads seeing what people are teaching their kids. My question is how do you know if you are doing enough? For instance, we aren't doing "art" exactly. My ds 7 goes to an "art" class once a week and paints pictures. Also science, it gets put on the back burner when other subjects are taking longer. I guess I want to know what subjects should be mandatory and the ones I don't need to stress about as much! (I'm teaching a k and 2nd grader) Any help would be appreciated!
  7. Any other ideas, not really into movies or eating out. What is Catan?
  8. This year my sister is wanting to do a family gift. It is a limit of $50 and should be something for the whole family! Any ideas, I'm kind of clueless on what to do!
  9. I've lost my Saxon math 2 meeting strip template. Could someone please email me a copy? Thanks!!!
  10. Too the point our library is awful! In my few years of hsing they almost always do not have access to the books I need (or any others that may be topic related). Is there anything online that lets you rent or checkout books? I've done alittle research and found library elf (which I really don't understand) and when it says put in your home library mine isn't even on there. Help!! School has started and there is a list of books I want. Thanks Nadia
  11. I have RSO earth and space level 1. I am really interested in Apologia Exploring Creation with Astronomy. Can anyone tell me which they like better or if they are at all comparable. I will be using it with my ds 7 and dd 5. I'm wanting something that is hands on but doesn't take a lot of work to get things together (if that makes sense). Any input would be great!
  12. If I plan on using PR 1 would using IEW TWSS be over doing it? Keep in mind I'm new to both programs. I'll be teaching my ds 7. I also have access to AAS and Shurley English 2. Help!
  13. I've never used them, I know nothing about it, and I've had no desire to use them until recently when my 4th dd started breaking out in a rash regularly. I was told it might be the diapers. So what is it going to cost me? How much time am I going to have to put into keeping them clean? Where do I start? I have a 3 month old, 21 month old and 3 year old (only at night) who I would need to diaper. Any help would be appreciated!
  14. Thanks for all the ideas! We are building on a laundry/schoolroom and I just want it to look nice for cheap! I'd also like it to last for awhile since our homeschool journey is just beginning!!
  15. I have looked through the board and have read and seen pictures of peoples school rooms. Majority seem to get their bookcases and tables from IKEA. I don't have an IKEA anywhere close and the cost to ship the items I want is pricey. Anyone have any websites or other stores they could suggest? Thanks
  16. I've been looking into VP and they use this. Can someone please tell me what this program is. Is it just writing? Is it similiar to WWE? I just can't get myself to pay $130 for this.
  17. I was going to start VP and for grammar they use Shurley English. I am not familiar with this program at all. I was going to use it for my ds soon to be 7. We worked mostly on phonics and math this past year so I was wondering if I should start on level 1 or 2. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it!
  18. I use it with my DS 6. We currently use saxon math 1. I really like it but I don't have much to compare it too. My son has moved through it quickly b/c there is a lot of repetition, I feel. So that is my biggest complaint but it is easy to work around that. Just move at your childs own pace! I don't know how the older grade levels are but we use the meeting book, which is a calendar, weather graph, number line, etc. He loves that. Anyhow I've already purchased saxon K for my DD and saxon 2 for my DS to use as soon as he finishes saxon 1 :)
  19. Thanks all for the encouragement! My next question is I have some Bob books that my DS reads and is bored with and I try and let him pick out books to read that will interest him. Then he picks out books that are too hard and he gets discouraged! Any suggestions for reading? He is developing a love for reading, just slowly!
  20. I am still a beginning hser. I am currently using OPGTR with my DS 6. We try to do 2 lessons a day and are on lesson 100. Are we already behind? I want him to be a good reader, since I am not. I like OPGTR but there are many days I wonder if it is "meaty" enough. We also do ETC and are on book 3. So my question is, first are we behind? Second, if you used OPGTR did you supplement anything? I really don't want him to fall behind already! Thanks!!
