  1. He is finishing this up. We did it 9th grade, second semester. It was painless and simple. We will also do a first aid/CPR class.
  2. We really enjoy it. My Kids seem to do better with the mastery approach. I agree with the PP who said to get 3rd edition. We've used both 2nd and 3rd edition and 3rd Ed is much better. The new editions do have review every day added in. At the end of each chapter there are several pages of review that are labeled to match lessons within that chapter. Each day at the end of the lesson it says, "Lesson 61 ,do review a on page 254." The cd has drill sheets for every day if you need them. We will start our last kinder year this fall. Hope that helps.
  3. We are about 6-8 weeks away from finishing. I have really enjoyed it this year and so have my boys. It seems like it is very clear and systematic on what to expect from them. They have both told me that they want to continue and it's their favorite writing program. It is not TWTM way, though, so it depends on what you are looking for in a writing program. I tried the other way with my boys and really loved it. They had completely different feelings ;) We finally get writing done every day with no tears or complaints. (well, minimal anyway).
  4. http://www.amazon.com/Trip-Through-Wonderland-Court-Readers/dp/B0038OL2TS Someone here mentioned these and they are perfect for us. They have great stories from Alice and Wonderland to poetry by Longfellow. There are 3-5 questions after each story that we do orally. They are the older Open Court Basic Readers by Marianne Carus around the mid 70's. They start mid year in first grade and go through 6th, I think.
  5. What about the word list book, lesson 37 through 68? When are they scheduled? Second grade?
  6. I was wondering how this compares to the other phonics programs. Seems like it's more than just readers.
  7. I don't see much about this when I search. Does anyone have any experience? Is it similar to phonics pathways, 100 ez... I'm just curious about how complete it is. Thanks!
  8. Then and Now by Usborne Children Just Like Me by DK
  9. Someone here mentioned them last summer and I found them on Amazon. We really enjoy them and they have excellent reading selections. Aesop, Tolstoy, James Whitcomb Riley etc. There are 3-5 questions at the end of each story that I ask him for comprehension. They are not quite enough for an entire year, so I have him read a few "real" books to round out the year.
  10. I needed more hand holding than Writing Strands gave me. I didn't always understand what the lessons were asking us to do. WWW has been much better for me. Really breaking down into baby steps. Hope that helps. It just depends on what you need to help instruct. We are using WWW level 3 and 7 for two weeks now FWIW. Jill
  11. http://Www.usdrivertraining.com This is what my sister used and I will be using it next month. It is $74 and all online. Jill
  12. I have the books ordered and I think it looks perfect. I will know more when I dig in and start.
  13. We will start them in August, but they look great. Step by step, workbook style writing program. I will probably post back after we start and give feedback.
  14. I will be using in the fall with my 4th grader. He has looked it over and is very excited. I love the way it is laid out with narrations and the notebook. I agree with the other person who said you can expect more from your 5th grader. I think it will work, that is my tentative plan for 5th grade, volume 2. It looks like we will have a really fun year!
  15. She was very helpful and encouraging. She also said that since there is a lot of writing, it would be fine for a 9th grader. I am going to buy the Level 7 book for my rising freshman. I also had the same thoughts ("Where have you been all my life?") It does look very straight forward.
  16. The upper levels look like they would work for a 9th or 10th grader. Just curious if anyone else has looked at samples and considered this for high school. Opinions? Jill
  17. We were looking at either July or September. We are really looking forward to the bats. My youngest is 4, so I am not sure if he could handle the natural entrance, maybe hubby & older boys could go that route. Thank you all for your help!
  18. I will be checking out all these options. Is summer a bad time time to go? I was reading about the violent lightning storms that are "common" in the evening. Just thought I would ask. Thanks again, Jill
  19. We are considering this for our family vacation this year. Does anyone have suggestions on places to stay that are clean and affordable? Thanks!
  20. That would be great. Why didn't you use the notebooking pages that go along with the Trail Guide? Jenny - Thanks for the book list.
  21. :lurk5: My son does not want a textbook. I was looking at all the great suggestions from that last thread, but I need something a little easier for me. I love Barb's plan, but would like to see how she put it all together.
  22. http://www.learnspanishtoday.com/store-course-supplements.html It looks like they have one. Has anyone used this with the program?
