  1. I found CLE (Christian Light Education) worked for my son who has processing issues and has trouble reading. The workbooks are very simple to use and has a good approach with review, etc. layed out simply. WE used the LA and Math this year and will use them next year. Son is 12.
  2. I struggled with SL LA for years, then finally found CLE. I'd go with CLE. Ease of use and to the point.
  3. Bob Jones Science? They have online version or DVD. (I'd choose the online) with very good labs, etc. I've heard good things about the science, although it is expensive. I think you can find used books sometimes.
  4. Mine is doing: BJU 6- Science BJU 6- History + Mapping the World w/Art-history/geography Math-CLE LA-CLE 5 Japanese-Rosetta AWANA
  5. I have to say, I'm sick of it too. On Nat. Geo Channel now, they are running a commercial on "mating" but instead they are using the word "S*X" on the commercial in big white letters over and over again throughout the commercial (to get your attention I guess) and using suggestive music for the background. My son saw the it once, and now he's all over the house saying this word for no good reason. NOW COME ON!!! we can't even watch NAT GEO anymore without this?!? I'm sick of it too. Really SICK OF IT!
  6. If you've used the Potter's school for some of your high school subjects, how did you record these on your transcripts? Does anyone have a sample I could see? Did you need to have an appendix for any online course books used for the course? Also, there is supposed to be a place to print out records for your kids before they erase the grades for the coming year. How did you do this. My son has 3 classes with them, and I need to have his grades for my records. Did you just use the Potter's grade system for your transcripts? help anyone?
  7. My son will be doing this as well (6th). I just printed out the chap. 1 sample and we are doing it together for a couple of weeks to see how it goes. I think it might take 2 weeks to finish 1 chap/lesson. It doesn't look that difficult to do independently if your child reads well (mine doesn't) so we are doing it together. We've just done mostly the readings and he's taken some notes/drawings. I've broken it down in only 15-20 minutes a day so far, but we haven't got to any major projects yet. I don't think it's labor intensive, but it's really interesting.
  8. I'm the ADD spouse and my dh is like you:) But, I've realized this is exactly why God has us together. He needs my ADDness and I need his Type A-ness.
  9. My son (12) is doing this class (Writer's workshop w/ Potter's) in the Fall. I think it's going to be a good class. My eldest son (13) has really enjoyed ENG. 1 w/ Potter's. Something about a "live" class seems to motivate him.
  10. for my younger (12) Christian Light LA and Math. For my older (13) Potter's School all the way.
  11. I have a rising (14) Freshman. He will be doing all online classes this year through Potter's and Scholar's Online. It's going to be a very rigorous year, but I'm thankful to hand over the reigns for a while and focus on my 2nd son with LD's (12).
  12. Oh. my. gosh!!! That is it!!! You are amazing! I can't believe someone could tell me the title from my description. You must really know your classics!! I've been searching for that title for years. Thank you! I'm so happy to finally know it's title! thanks again!!!
  13. It's driving me crazy...I have this beautiful theme/classical song in my head. It's not piano, but strings and it sounds other-wordly, like night-time space. I've always wanted the title of the song so I could have it, but I only know how it goes in my head and that it was sometimes used for sad background music in films (I'm not even sure which ones). How's that for a mystery? It makes great, intensely sad music for a sad "Holocaust" scene. If I could sing it (of course that's hard here) it goes like: da, da, da, da, da, da, da,da,da, daaaaaaaaaaaaaan (an octave higher) da, da, da, da, da, da, da,da,da, daaaaaaaaaaaaaan Ugh. Any takers???? I know it's classical, not new-age. It's likely European. It's a composer's music and it's strings (not horns). Something 3rd movementish or 4th symphony or something.... Help! :confused1:
  14. There's a new Notgrass Am. Hist. course for this age, you might check out. It looks good to me.
  15. Oh my goodness, I just attended my 47 year old brother's funeral. He died of cirrhosis due to drinking. I will pray for you. It was hard to take. But, he did accept C. 4 years ago. His battle w/drinking was already too far progressed to change the outcome.
  16. WE've used both. CLE is easiest to use. Hands down.
  17. Could someone help my son with his essay? We are wondering how to puntuate "In this case." We can't find out how to do this correctly. Thanks so much if you can help. Finally, The Thousandth Man is an excellent poem because it speaks to the heart. Rudyard Kipling instinctively puts himself in another man’s skin. He had the ability to express well the deep feelings of the subjects of his poems. In this case; a man’s difficulty in finding a good friend.
  18. Check out the Potter's school. I've heard it has an excellent French class. Using BJU texts.
  19. How did you order it all for 42$? I'm seeing 145.00 for the text alone. Did you order things "used"? Please advise.
  20. Thanks for everyone's help. It's been a blessing. (We are in Japan, so I'm not thinking too good right now). Okay, this is what I'm ordering. Is this correct? Also, I'm assuming you guys order from the "used books?" I'm seeing $145.00 for the text, so that can't be what you guys did. Sorry to sound so stupid, but I really need to get this right since we live overseas, I can't easily return it. Introductory Algebra (Lial Developmental Mathematics Paperback) by Margaret L. 21. Thank you! I'm seeing the following books for this. Now, I'm really confused. Which should I start him with? Sorry for all the questions. I just can't see them in person, so it's difficult to judge. 22. I finally found that working out at night helps me tremendously. I work out everyday between the hours of 8pm-10pm. It's so much easier than doing it in the morning. Some say working out at night will keep you up, but not me. It's helped me to sleep better! I'm tired when I go to bed.
  23. We will be finishing up MUS pre-algebra and all the "Keys to Algebra" books. Which do you reccommend, int. or intro Algebra? Thanks by the way, for typing and finding all that out for me! :D
