  1. Hello all, I have been struggling with trying to find a history curriculum that is not too intense but not too weak either. I am intrigued by the OUP series. Just curious as to how you all have put it together? Do I buy the series of books all at the same time, the The Medieval and Early Modern World: Primary Sources and Reference Volume (Medieval & Early Modern Worldas well as the Science and Technology one, the voyages, and all of the different continents and work through them? Is there a guide of some sort that will help bring these books together if I am to use all of them at the same time? I don't have access to the books so I don't know the content of each book and hence, I am lost as to how these books fit together into a possible curriculum. Thank you in advance! Sylvia
  2. I have a so-so speller who is going to be starting the 7th grade. My daughter isn't a bad speller, but she isn't a focused speller. She can't visualize words without writing them down and is apt to forget a letter when spelling, or switch letters. It isn't all of the time. But enough that she wants to do some spelling this year. After talking with a lady at the local homeschool store, she recommended we try Megawords. I got the first book of the series with the TM. But after reading through it a bit more carefully, I am a bit confused as to how to get started with the check test. The lady at the store said that the test will help us figure out which of the patterns my daughter struggles with and just to focus on that pattern. Is that how others have used it? Is it a gap filler type of curriculum or is that just how some people are using it even though it isn't specifically made that way? Thanks in advance! Sylvia
  3. I ordered a used copy on eBay and will take a look and see. Even if it is too much, I can always use portions of it! Thanks!
  4. Do you think the Renaissance and Reformation times would be okay level for a 7th grader? Cathy Duffy reviewed it and seemed to think it was more appropriate for high school. The writing style seemed pretty approachable when I viewed the Book of the Ancient Romans . . .
  5. Thank you for the recommendation. I just took a look at the age of science and revolution, 1600-1800 and the writing seemed engaging. I will try to find a used copy if I can.
  6. The History of the Renaissance World Has anyone used this book specifically and what has been your thoughts on it? I am thinking of using it with my 7th grader who doesn't like to read too much. I had looked into Biblioplan and MOH, but they both seemed to be so complicated and involved. . . I want a pretty good coverage of the Renaissance time period with some thoughtful questions for discussion and writing (short paper type) but not pulling in a ton of outside reading. I just don't want it to be a dry reading. . . I am thinking of also supplementing whatever text with the Stanford History Education Group lessons sprinkled throughout the year. Any other curriculum out there or books that might fit what we are looking for? Thanks, Sylvia
  7. Thanks Zoo Keeper. My daughter does always have an opinion and I think it will be interesting to go through this with her. It definitely will be a good experience for me as well!
  8. Has the Stanford program been okay to use with a single child? I wonder if the lack of discussion would weaken the curriculum in any way? Thanks!
  9. i had completely forgotten about TPT. Thanks!
  10. Hello all, We have been doing Duolingo spanish for a few months now, about 2x a week. The girls are actually wanting something to physically write down and work on so that it will reinforce what they are learning on the computer. Do you know if there are worksheets that would work well with Duolingo? I have searched online for Spanish worksheets but they don't quite match the format of how Duolingo does their lessons/teaching. If anyone has any ideas on how to best incorporate some type of worksheets alongside Duolingo, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance, S
  11. I use it with my 2nd and 4th grader together. They love it and so do I! It really is 15 minutes or less. I think it probably takes us less than 10 minutes. We have been doing it for about 12 weeks now. So easy and really I don't supplement with anything else yet.
  12. Whew! I am relieved to hear that it is okay to try it this way. I need to remind myself that learning isn't always at home, at a desk, with a pencil and paper! I better go and order the other audio discs. Btw, christian book distributor has them for 40% off. S
  13. Have been looking over my fall schedule and I just don't have the time to do a sit down history with my girls. We are doing a science and humanities co op that meets 2times a week that is eating up quite a bit of time each week. We were planning on doing SOTW with AG about 2 times a week. Would it be terrible for them if we just did audio on the 30 minute drives we have each Monday and Wednesday mornings? They are entering 2nd and 4th grade. And we have already listened to the audio for books 1 and 2 once through last year. S
  14. Is there anyone out there who is using or have used Galore Park Spanish with their kiddos? We are currently doing Duolingo but it is so different from the traditional way that I learned my Spanish that it kind of makes me wonder if they are retaining anything at all. Galore Park seems more traditionally presented but the sample pages look kind of difficult for a beginner learner. Any thoughts from those of you who have used it? Liked it? Didn't like it? Thanks!
