  1. No but I have the advantage of birthdays in July and August, which helps break it up. At first I thought you meant how many days were in each month.
  2. Hello, I'm finally home and sitting still long enough to catch up on this thread (I may have skipped some, sorry). Long day, met dd at 7:30am to work out, then worked at the science center, taught 4 classes, did some clean up (have more to do in the AM), ran to the bank, took dd to TKD, and just finished dinner. I don't like the new layout but I'll get used to it. Facebook did a similar thing, supposedly optimized for cell phones and tablets, but lousy on laptops (which is what I use 99% of the time). Sorry for everyone dealing with sick kids or obnoxious husbands.
  3. Yeah, I'm starting to think that too. If nobody here can think of anything, he's got to be delusional.
  4. Yeah, it just made me think of fascia and other biology stuff.
  5. Dh is trying to think of the term for a number that is showing all of its decimal places (like on a calculator) or has not be rounded off. It's not unrounded, precise, or anything obvious. He said it's a "$10 word" - long, multi-syllables and he thinks it ends in a sound like "fasia". Any ideas? This is the smartest group of people I know so I'm hoping someone knows. Google was amazingly unhelpful. @square_25 you're a math teacher/math degreed, any ideas?
  6. I'll definitely take some Advil if it hurts at bedtime. It actually doesn't hurt until I put weight on it, so shouldn't be a problem sleeping. I'm supposed to meet dd to walk/yoga in the morning but I also have 4 classes tomorrow instead of 3, plus younger kids so I'll be doing more walking around so I'm thinking of cancelling. Maybe I'll just push her to just some yoga. I just finished setting up an Excel spreadsheet to figure out taxes and print paystubs for my employee. I refuse to pay over $30 a month to do a check for one employee.
  7. On the not so great side, my ankle is killing me. I have osteoarthritis and had my ankle wrapped all day but it still hurts pretty bad. I might do an epsom salt soak after dinner.
  8. Hi, I'm done and home. I was home about 3:30 but got a call that my glasses were in so I ran to pick them up. I was tired of wearing crappy glasses. The day went well. I had 6,000 steps by 1pm even though I was basically in the same room all day. Kids seemed to have fun, new teacher is doing great. I teach 4 classes tomorrow so that's going to be a long day.
  9. Morning. First day of classes today. It's going to be weird to be back after 6 months. I always get a little nervous at the start of a new session since I don't know the kids and what to expect but today won't be too bad. It's all teenagers (my favorite) and all except 2 are kids I had last year. Even with that, I think this year is going to be different with the masks and stuff. Wish me luck!
  10. I'm using a very recent textbook for my classes and it's very different than what I learned back in the 80's, loosely into the 90's. I think part of it is the progress in DNA - the Human Genome Project was still an ongoing thing when I was in school, it wasn't completed until 2013. Classification is now based on Cladistics and ancestry rather than physical characteristics, which brings evolution and natural selection much more to the forefront. Plus evolution has now been observed in birds and amphibians, not just bacteria/single cell organisms/invertebrates. I did get some evolution in school. It was definitely presented as underlying many other concepts but definitely doesn't seem to have gotten the emphasis it does now.
  11. Hello. This is the first chance I've had to spend much time here today. I went and worked out with dd, then had to clean up and load new software on 5 computers, then had to vacuum, wash some dishes, and clean the bathroom (all that at the science center). Then came home and I've been planning for my Algebra class tomorrow. I'm on dinner break. We ordered pizza but I got cavatelli and broccoli. I didn't plan any school for the kids for this week. I'm tired.
  12. There is an interview available that goes into how they handled the filming with the actresses involved. They evidently did a lot to make sure the girls were okay and comfortable with the process. I haven't seen the movie so I don't really want to say anything more until I do.
  13. https://youtu.be/ox30w2lOaqw This is one of my daughters dances. ETA: they got top senior duet for this at Nationals.
  14. My oldest was a competitive dancer for 18 years (from 4 years old until graduating high school, then 4 years in college). And that is over the top and way more inappropriate than anything I saw in all those years (we even did StarPower competition). I definitely saw some questionable things, but nothing that went that far.
  15. I'm done working for the day. It's 9:15 pm. I'll relax a while then go to bed since I am meeting dd at 7:30 tomorrow morning. I need to do some work setting up computers for classes, then finish up the planning for my last 4 classes. Two are pretty much done I just need to check things and print things. One is outlined and just needs some fill-in but that's a twice a week class so more work anyway. And one I've barely started but is similar to other classes so I can probably cannibalize those ones at least a little bit. I keep feeling like I"m forgetting something and it's driving me crazy.
  16. My kids have a ton of online friends associated with either games they play or fandoms they follow. They seem pretty happy with that state of friendships. Otherwise they have some acquaintance level friends through classes or 4-H.
  17. Hello, I'm just checking in while eating my lunch. I feel bad, my mother called and wanted to go out for pizza today. One we aren't going out to eat anywhere despite it being legal now. And two, I have soooo much work to do and a serious deadline to do it in. I just can't take the time out.
  18. Okay time to get to work. If you see my on here before 1pm (lunch time), yell at me.
  19. Can you tell I'm procrastinating a little bit? I'm still drinking my tea and can't really do work while I"m still drinking my tea because I need both hands. So you guys are stuck listening to me babble. My tea pot leaks all over the place when I pour. Why would it do that? I had the same one before and it didn't do that. It's a glass tea pot.
  20. The sun can't decide if it wants to come out or not. One minute it's dark and gloomy and I turn on the light. The next it's like I'm in a spotlight with the sun blaring in (skylight). It needs to make up its mind so I can decide if I want to move.
  21. I didn't watch Captain America last night. Instead I finished a book. It was okay. Something that was a Kindle freebie at some point that loaded up to have something to read while dd was at TKD and it was raining. I didn't like it enough to buy the rest of the series, especially considering the last book isn't done yet. The first book had a semi-wrap-up that I'm good with leaving it at that. I'm trying not to start large books or ones that I'll feel the need to finish right away while I have so much work to do and classes are starting. It's rough though. I really really like to read.
  22. Any non videos about the clipboard system? It looks interesting but I can't stand watching videos.
  23. We have one that is not set up for automatic switching or whole house. It's a portable that is in a shed on the side of the house. When it's needed, we wheel it out of the shed, turn it on and run extension cords through the window. I had to start it myself in our last hurricane because dh was away and it wasn't bad at all. I had to get a neighbor to help get it out of the shed because it's heavy and it's just gravel so didn't roll well. We have one plug right by the window it comes in with our internet, tv, snakes heat pad and some charging stations so we can switch that over easily. We run another cord to our fridge so we don't lose food and to some lights. We eventually want to get a whole house one that runs off propane but that's a very expensive set-up and we haven't been ready for that yet. We don't lose power more than a few times a year usually. We do have a well so we do lose water when the power is out but we get buckets of water if we know it could go out so we can still flush, and bottled water to drink (usually my science center has power even if home doesn't so we can grab water there usually). We have propane for our stove so we can still cook.
  24. Morning, Happy Saturday. Guess what I'm doing today!! The same thing I do every day.....Try and get ready for classes. (said in Pinky and the Brain voices). It's crazy now but the last two years I basically ended up finalizing class plans the night before. Don't want to do that again so I'm trying to get as much done before I start as possible. It will make the next few months much much easier.
