  1. Morning. Worked out with dd this morning. Came home and went to make eggs for breakfast and managed to put my finger through one egg (?) and then dropped the egg that was in my hand on the floor. So now we have no eggs left. I've been trying to get a good routine for these last two weeks before classes start again because I have a tendency to get too much into doing something (like reading boards or books) and then nothing gets done. Basically I set alarms on my phone. The usual wakeup - at different times depending on whether I'm meeting dd or not. Then a chores for 1 hour alarm which could also include planning school stuff, then lunch break. I have until the chores alarm at 11am to check boards, eat breakfast, have my tea. Which can be anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the day. Then 1/2 hour for doing math with dd, then 2 hours of doing class work. That gets us to time to get ready for TKD 2 days a week, but has additional time other days. I'm thinking of adding an alarm to add some yoga during the day, even the days I workout with dd I think it would be good. I'm walking during TKD when the weather permits, with ds, but that's only at most 4 days a week, usually just 3 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Then there's alarms for yelling at one of the kids to do the dishes (8pm) and taking away the kids electronics (10pm). They don't have to go to sleep but they can't stay on electronics all night unless it's Friday, Saturday or their one optional day a week. Staying up late does not immediately lead to not having to get up in the morning. The whole thing will have to be redone in less than 2 weeks when classes start. Dh was home yesterday because he didn't feel well and my alarms kept going off. He was wondering what the heck was going on.
  2. I do love good pens. I have huge collections of thin and normal sharpies, tons of gel pens, the Frixion erasable pens. And notebooks. I'm constantly buying cute notebooks and journals and then not having anything worthy of using them.
  3. Too late. Not a big deal. The $299 comes out of the business account. The heat will come out of personal.
  4. I've never done a coop. My kids have hardly ever taken outside classes unless it's the ones I teach. We did some "sports" - gymnastics, tkd, bowling - and ds did a GT program at our local university. I think that was pretty much it. My kids are too quirky for me to subject other teachers to them or them to other teachers, without lots of forethought and background knowledge.
  5. So at the end of last winter, our heat started acting wonky. The system is 20+ years old and dh has been doing minor repairs on it over the years. He decided it was time to get someone in to look at it, NOW before winter comes again. Looks like we probably need a new system.
  6. I spent over $600 ordering stuff for the start of classes and turns out I didn't order one item that is $299. Whoops.
  7. Morning. It's a rainy, icky day here. Just the steady gloomy kind of day. I feel tired and blah and like my allergy meds aren't working. Dh stayed home from work because he wasn't feeling well. I cancelled my algebra tutoring today. Kids and I were going to go to a homeschool recess but not doing that either. My kids are not fans of hanging out in the rain. They aren't big fans of outside, don't ride bikes or skate or do much with ball games so I was going to have them bring some board/card/dice games. Which clearly doesn't work in the rain. So a lazy, gloomy day at home.
  8. What's great here is when someone shares some propaganda or BS thing, it won't take long before someone else has good information to refute it. There are so many smart people here drilling down to the information we really need without a bunch of fluff or crap added. I find it extremely helpful. I'm also learning things a few days to a few weeks before it hits our local tv news.
  9. Last year I bought myself a big bucket of banana flavored Laffy Taffy. I'm super tempted to buy a new purse. Definitely don't need one but I'm on the eternal quest for the perfect purse.
  10. Although the other day, oldest dd was asking me where I get a lot of my political - covid or election - information because I had good up-to-date information and it was kind of weird telling her it mostly came from a homeschool forum.
  11. Every time I tell dh about something that's been in the news, or about covid, or education, or so many topics, he'll ask "where did you hear that, on your boards?".
  12. Sorry it's going on so long. That sucks. I'm having a burrito bowl from Moe's for dinner. I don't know if Moe's is nationwide, it's like a Chipolte, kind of. I was supposed to order take out from my local vegetarian/Chinese restaurant. I LOVE their spring rolls and steamed dumplings, but turns out they are closed Tuesdays. Moe's was the quickest place to stop on the way home. Dh and the kids had pizza but dh had already ordered it by the time I knew no Veggie Heaven. I also had a beer. Now I need to wash the goat because I walked/worked out twice today. 9,955 steps. I'm going to hit 10,000 for sure.
  13. We have the entire run of 21 Jumpstreet on DVD. My 26 year old daughter is a big fan (as I said, also a fan of The Breakfast Club though). The filming looks very old fashioned but I don't remember it having anything really inappropriate in the way the teen rom-coms did.
  14. Dh is home so I don't have to make mashed potatoes. We finally went out for ice cream for ds's birthday that was almost 2 weeks ago. I'm tired. I did get up and walk with dd this morning and I'm going to walk with ds while other dd is at tkd, as long as it's not raining. It's kind of iffy at the moment.
  15. I'm using face shields with side drapes that cover the gaps around the sides and bottom. Would something similar work for the half face shields/masks listed above? A folded bandana or similar piece of cloth could probably be attached to the ear loops to cover the sides and run under the chin, or small pieces of cloth separate on each side.
  16. My 26 year old really like The Breakfast Club. I'm sure my teenagers wouldn't be able to relate at all and they have no interest in watching it. They don't watch many movies though. I think most of the "relationship" movies from before 2000 or so have a lot of problems with them. With some exceptions both ways - more recent ones with serious issues and older ones that are okay.
  17. The Secular Homeschoolers forum died? I used to be pretty active on there but only pop in very occasionally now. I know a lot of people were upset when they started advertising non-secular curriculum. It never had as much activity as here does.
  18. This is definitely my son. When he was little my MIL tried to do the "eat this or get nothing" and he basically ate nothing for three days until dh realized what was going on and put his foot down (I wasn't there). Until he was a teenager, he basically ate on a schedule because he didn't really feel hungry. Dd on the other hand will eat just about anything. ETA: I have some aversions that now I'm pretty sure are due to allergies.
  19. I ran out to Target since we only had the wrong "recipe" pizza bites and according to the online, our local one had the right taquitos. That was a lie, but they did have the right pizza bites so I bought them. And Ben & Jerry's Pfish food. That I already ate half of.
  20. I may have to make real mashed potatoes this week. It's one of the healthier foods ds eats. Ds is extremely picky. ASD and SPD make for some weird food aversions. Lots to do with texture and messiness, but he also seems to be a super taster. And some of his usual foods have gotten hard to find. Basically his entire dinner diet: plain cheese pizza rolls - evidently they are currently doing a "Limited Edition Recipe" that ds doesn't like. He can taste the most minor difference in flavors. El Monterey Chicken and Cheese taquitos - can't find them anywhere except at BJs but the big pack evidently has a slightly different recipe than the usual smaller packs and he can taste the difference. Mashed potatoes made with cauliflower mixed in, he'll even eat these with chicken or broccoli mixed in. frozen raviolis or spaghetti with sauce filled with vegetables, pureed and strained then shrimp in the sauce. I made the raviolis tonight without all the veggies though. delivery pizza I think he'll still eat grilled cheese but I'm not 100% on that. French fries - fast food or the non-crinkle cut frozen kind baked. He likes Olive Gardens small pizzas and french fries. He eats whole grain Eggo waffles with smooth peanut butter for lunch a couple times a week. It's not just healthy food. He will eat one kind of candy (mini M&Ms) and two kinds of cookies - Chips Ahoy and chocolate Oreos - so he's equal opportunity picky. He'll only eat plain chocolate ice cream and prefers soft serve but will eat hard if there's nothing else and he's in the mood. Dinner time is when I miss dh the most when he's away. I'm not nearly as good at it.
  21. I lost one of my pairs of glasses. I have two good pairs - one stays by my chair at home and the other in my purse. Purse ones are the ones I lost and the ones I use all the time for classes and stuff. I remember putting them in the case in my purse, but when I went to get them out, they weren't there. I checked all over my purse (it's not that big), at the science center, at home. I don't know where else they could be or how they got lost. Maybe in my car but dh now has my car. I have a couple crappy drugstore readers that will do in a pinch but I want my good glasses. 😭
  22. No it's not. It can't be. March through June was sooooooooooo long. But July and August seem to have flown by. Good Morning. I slept pretty good last night. I'm relaxing with my tea and I had eggs with spinach this morning. I need to find a way to get more energy during the day. I think I need more cold caffeine. For some reason my tea, no matter how strong, doesn't seem to give me that much of a wake-up boost. Iced tea does more so I may need to start drinking that a little bit. I'm sleeping really really well so I'm hoping extra caffeine won't undo that, especially once I'm teaching all day. As long as I have it before lunch, should be fine. I have cold-brew iced tea bags and I actually like the taste with no sugar or anything.
  23. I'm back from the store. I survived. I was right, it was dead after dinner on a Sunday. Only bad thing is they didn't have some stuff I wanted and I don't know if that's because Sunday is a bad day for shipments or what. It is the first or last day of their sale cycle so I guess that could be a problem. Used to be going on Sunday night (or was that Saturday night?) you got both sales.
  24. Oh yeah, Nortons are huge and the writing is tiny. I bought a bunch at a used book store but even my 15 year old isn't ready for that yet. Mosdos is pretty much standard textbook size and even my adhd 13 year old doesn't find the print too small or anything.
  25. I"m pretty sure Mosdos is all complete stories. Mostly short stories, some poetry and one complete novel in each level. I loved the anthologies in school. Not snippets but whole stories. I had Norton for years in high school and was always reading ahead.
