  1. I got some 5 gallon buckets (free) from our local bakery, washed them well with a bleach solution, dried them out in the hot sun etc and purchased Gamma seal lids for them. This has worked well for years.
  2. Congratulations Pam. You are amazing. I have thought of you often during my hiatus from the boards. Glad to know you are doing well. Take care.
  3. Hey Suzanne, Thanks for thinking about me. We moved to IN. How's your little one doing? Take care.
  4. Yes, my rash subsided by early summer of last year. Now I just wait with dread for the next round in about 6 yrs from the start of the last cycle. I have lots of friends praying that I don't HAVE another cycle of this nasty stuff. My ds still asks if I or he will get it. I just tell him that I don't know for sure but I am praying like crazy that it doesn't happen. We did find another violin teacher...I posted a little bit more in my reply to Beth in OH. Take care,
  5. Hi Beth, Yes, we did find a violin teacher pretty soon. I didn't spend too much time looking around because it was Sept and I wanted to find somebody before their schedule filled up. We drive about 25 mins north of Indy but at least it is not an hour each way which is what we had been used to in MN. So far so good. I think ds still misses Suzuki - actually I think what he liked about Suzuki was getting the trophies for passing each level :) Hope I get to hear your dds sometime. Take care.
  6. Thanks for the welcome back, ladies and for letting me keep my board name:001_smile:
  7. SOTW 1 is for grades 1-4. I have the very first edition of the Yr 1 Activity Guide so I don't know if the newer editions have more recommendations for the upper grades. In your situation I would probably stick with SOTW with Act guide and add in extra books from other resource lists. I used Biblioplan to get suggestions for more advanced readers. HTH
  8. We completed our first cycle of history this summer. My plan was to finish our cycle early summer and then do Brimwood over the summer. Well, life intervened with health issues last year and a move over the summer so I ended up still finishing up our history rotation in Aug. After our move I started Brimwood and did it over 5/6 weeks. Of course this meant that we got a late start on the Ancients again. BUT it was so worth it to fit this program in before our next rotation. My only regret is that in the midst of unpacking and trying to get school done I did not do the timeline even though I purchased it. I haven't decided if I should sell it or hold on to it anyway.
  9. We usually work through the whole book. Ds is ahead in Math so we are not in a rush. Typically I have him go through the IP books during the summer or the weeks when he needs to work independently. We usually use the books 6 months to a year after he has completed the text/workbook for that level. We have used the CWP and IP books starting with level 3 and they have been a great addition to the Singapore program.
  10. Yes, I agree.. with dh, ds needing glasses and my contact lenses the cost is ridiculous. It made me seriously think about LASIK but I don't think it is a great option now with my age and needing bifocals. My prescription is pretty high and with needing special lenses I have been reluctant to try some of the cheaper options. I think for dh and ds we will look into some of those now that we live in a place with more possibilities.
  11. I posted in a new thread but also wanted to post here that our family made it to IN safely. Dh's new job has been challenging in many ways including long hours and travel so it the adjustment has been a little rough. Thank you again for praying and hope that things move quickly for those still waiting for a house to sell. Take care.
  12. It's a lovely dress. You could pin it if you think it shows too much leg. VH (waving hi)
  13. I have not posted on the boards in a long time. Life has been interesting. Our family made the move from MN to IN in September 08 (dh had been here since June). The move was exhausting but went well. No mishaps with the moving company especially considering our terrible experience with a prior move. About a week after our move dh's new job took a challenging turn and it has been relentless since then. He works 12-14 hours 6 days/week and has been traveling a lot. I unpacked about 95% of our stuff. Between Oct and last week, I had 3 bouts of a nasty sinus infection. I think my body is getting used to the new bugs in the area :) It has been a rough adjustment for ds who misses his dad being around and his friends in MN. I recently told a fellow boardie that I was planning to post again and she kindly informed me that my board name may cause a stir....so do I need to petition for a new name or can you all assume that I mean a different kind of Tea :tongue_smilie: Hope I don't mess up this post and it shows up in the right spot. Hello again to those who may still remember me. Take care.
  14. Congratulations Aubrey. That is fabulous news. Hope the excitement gets your labor going! Take care, VH
  15. I wish! We are still finishing up stuff from last year because of some health issues that disrupted our year. Now, I'm gearing up for a cross-country move and have no idea when we will start the new year. We still have to find a home to move to. Hope your year goes well. VH
  16. Thanks ladies. Yes, that contingency can be a concern. Our realtor is waiting for documentation from the buyer's realtor that shows that the buyer of their home is already preapproved etc and all that is left is the closing. We are praying that all goes well.
  17. Cutting and pasting my update here... Praise God! We signed a contract on our home today. After 3 weeks of zero showings we had somebody go through a week ago Sat. They returned on Fri evening and made an offer that night. Within a couple of hours we had come to an agreement. The buyers wanted a closing date of Aug 25!! We had to call the moving company today to see if we could schedule dates that would work. They will pack and load us by Aug 29th. The buyers agreed to this and so dh got a faxed copy to sign and I just signed the contract this evening. It has been a wild weekend. As they say up here....Uffda!! Dh is now busy house hunting in the Indianapolis area so that he can narrow down the choices before ds and I visit. We are praying we find something suitable so that we don't have to move twice. The company pays for the move so it would be great to do it once :-) Given our small town situation and the housing market we are abundantly grateful for God's provision of a buyer. Please pray that all goes smoothly since our contract is contingent on the sellers closing on their home. Thank you for your prayers and I will continue to pray for those on this list. Blessings, VH

  19. Sounds like a great book. I'm currently re-reading Chosen by Chaim Potok. I read it several years ago and loved it. However, my aging eyes are having trouble reading the only version available in our library system - a small book that is 7"x4" with small print!! Ds and I enjoyed a recent readaloud: Escape to West Berlin by Maurine Dahlberg. VH
