  1. Thanks Angie, I am looking for some options other than Apologia for Bio, I have the whole Apologia shi-bang it just seems a bit dry and tedious. It is doable, but just looking into some other options. Anything specific you did not like? The format, labs?
  2. Has anyone used this and can provide feedback? Is this a curriculam that is worthy of a HS credit? It appears it is a book of labs rather than an acutal Biology course, the web site provided little in the way of samples. Thanks.
  3. I found the same promlem with my DD, 2nd grader. She did not like MM at all after doing almost all of 2A. For whatever reason she needed constant help and I had to sit with her problem by problem. Not really sure where the disconnect was.
  4. Thanks ladies, it is great to hear so many success stories with LOF, DD is much happier the past couple of weeks doing LOF. She is a day dream believer and catering to that with math espcially is very out side the box.
  5. Karin, thanks for your input, the nice thing about LOF is that at least in the case of my DD it really does teach itself unlike SM. The Life of Fred series is designed for home schoolers, so there is no need to cram, squeeze, or expand the material in order to fit into some government 9-month program. :iagree: NineChoirs I think I will take the plunge with you!
  6. For those of you who have used LOF and are supplimenting it what are you using? I was pondering New Math Counts which is suppose to be the easiest 7th Singapore text of the ones out there. My daughter is nearly finished with the fractions and will start decimals next week. I am nervous about using it stand alone....
  7. I have used both of these after using Sonlight for years, MFW is superior to both in all aspects. My most favorite thing about MFW is that if you use their materials from the get go, your child will have read the entire Bible prior to graduation.
  8. Thank you for your reply!! Very useful information. I just got out the fractions book and have had her doing it for the past few days. She has accomplished quite a bit of it thus far, it is good to know that the fractions and decimals are meant to be gone through quickly.
  9. Would be interested to know who has used this as a main text and how it went? I am looking for something to use with my non mathy daughter. I have never considered using it as a main text, however the author swears it is up to that standard.
  10. Thanks for the NEM links. It looks like quite a few people are using LOF as a main text and supplimenting with something else......what are the thought on this from the mathy folks? My DD is not going into a math/science field. She actually likes LOF, I have a couple of texts laying around here but have never done more that suppliment here and there with them. Who uses LOF as a main text and how is it going?
  11. Thanks ladies I really appreciate the feedback.
  12. Thanks for your responce! Did you use Singapore prior to DM or dive into that? My understanding is that the DM, NMC and NSM are all easier than NEM, and a good alternative to the more difficult NEM especially if you have a child who is not math or science bound. I was leaning towards the NMC because it looked to be the most student led and looks like it is all contained in one book. DM looked the most like the Singapore that we know and love. :)
  13. Has anyone used this or any of the other 7th+ grade math from Singapore? (NEM, NSM or NMC) Would really like to her some feedback on this and there really is not much out there. DD did will with Singapore up through 6B and I have yet to find a good match and am wondering about switching her to one of the programs they offer for older kids.
  14. You might also do some Progeny Press or Total Lanuage Plus, then she could have some input as to what she is reading.
  15. My Fathers World, I like the book selection and the fact that my student will have read the entire Bible cover to cover 3 times before graduation.
  16. I can't speak to Notgrass as all I have seen is the on line samples, which I think look good. I can tell you that the AAH I found dry and boring and so did the kids, we did not make it very far before I re-sold it.
  17. AngieW thank you so much, you have been a very helpful for me as I have embarked on upper level math. I really appreciate you posting your experiences and wisdom.
  18. I see your point. However, I do budget in the fact that a pre algebra might be grand and the algebra might be lacking.....there is a thread going on right now with folks having trouble with CD Algebra, which gives me pause given the expense of it. DS has done CD pre algebra, and DD was working on it, but Jacobs just seems more her style, not sure what we would do next......
  19. Kim, I am not certain, but I think Angie went to Kinetic Books.
  20. Thanks everyone! Angie, I noticed you have kido doing Kinetic Books Alg. 2, you are the one who turned me onto this. My son is doing Alg. 1 right now. Since you have moved on to 2 I assume you must have been pleased with 1?
  21. Kia, thanks so much, she just finished Singapore 6B, so maybe I will ditch the Chalkdust and have her do this.
  22. For those who have used Jacobs Algebra, what text did you use prior? I bought a copy I found for a bargain and think it would be great for my daughter, she just began Chalkdust Pre Alg, not sure how that is going to work. Just wondering what another pre Jacobs text might be?
