  1. Jamie, I have used both and MFW gets my vote for ease, book selection, notebooking and the hands on activities. I really liked Sonlight, but often it felt like all we ever did was read. I like that MFW offers notebooking, which I added to Sonlight, and hands on things. Additionlly I prefer their book selection, better choices for my kids. What impresses me most about MFW is that if you use thier curriculam K-12 you student will have read the entire Bible 3 times. I don't know of any other curriculam that offers this. My 2 cents. :)
  2. Hi Beth, thanks for offering your wears! When I went to the booth there was no one there and then I ran into the Ortiz clan and never made it back. I have the games and an abacus maybe I don't need the $150 full meal deal..........if I had not been on the golf course all day I would have ordered it. What do you think do I just need the work sheets and a few extra manipulatives? Tell me more about what your doing. Hope you have having good weather and lots of fun.
  3. Heather thanks for the advice I am going to heed it. I spoke with one of their reps today and I think even though it may seem easy at first it will help me get past where I seem to be stuck with her. Everyone who uses this says it is their kids favorite subjecty and they ask to do math, sure hope it is true in my case. :0
  4. We used a beta.........our beta fish suffered an untimely or timely death depending on your perspective and it came out fantastic!!! During the first history cycle we did a cornish game hen and that went so-so, but the beta, we still have, and the kids love showing it off to guests. :0 It is imprssive, to my mind.
  5. Thanks Heather!! I am thinking I need B or C. I did the 5 question test is there a longer one? Based on were we are with SM and CLE do you have any thoughts, it seems like I recall you having experience with both.
  6. Not to high jack this thread, but I have been considering swithichg from SM to RS becasue I would like more hands on. In looking at the web site you answer 5 questions and that is the level?? That does not seem like enough. My DD is 1/2 through CLE 204 and 1/2 through SM 1B. Any thoughts on where to begin with RS?
  7. Amy, curious why your not doing ECC? I chatted with the MFW people at the convention and they consider this the back bone of their entire program. I am doing Adventures this year and had planned to skip the ECC, however, after talking to them I have the IG and most of the books. :)
  8. Thanks so much for the input Marsha, I think that is the plan I am going with.
  9. Thanks Donna, I am glad you have gone before me and have provided so much insight and help!!!
  10. Thanks Donna!! I was hoping you would come to my rescue. :) Did you start in Primary or Intermediate? Based on the limited Amazon samples I am not sure my DD would be able to do all the copywork without tears and strive. Her favorite subject is play as well. :)
  11. Now that I have my Adventures package I am wondering what MFW users think of the Primary Language Lessons? I had been using First Language Lessons, wondering if I should make a switch? The look sort of similar from the limited samples I saw of PLL on line. Do you like the PLL or not, would welcome feedback.
  12. Donna, I did not get the details you just provided at the booth yesterday, THANK YOU so much for that summary!!! My big regret at the moment is that I did not start this with the bigger two way back when. At least they will be getting the tail end of it in high school. I am tempted to start it now with my oldest and just take it slow........ Katrina we were probably in line toghther :) I hope you will post how things are going. We have a golf tounament early this week, but I plan to start this with my daughter when I get home, I am excited to give her the name letter. :)
  13. Donna it was the convention in Oregon. I spoke to a brother and sister who's names I can't recall, a nice gal named Julie from Texas who raved about the HS program. I am certain I will do this with my son who will be in 9th the following year. Lastly, David Hazell, he took a good deal of time directing me, ultimately I ended up going with Adventures and he was really pushing ECC. My plan is to do ECC with my girls the following year while son does 9th grade. I have poured over the TM it looks like a much better fit for my family than Sonlight, or anything else I have tried for that matter. The one thing he said that kind of pushed me over the edge was that if you use this curriculam from start to finish, your child will read the entire Bible 3 times, no else that I am aware does this.
  14. A big thanks to everyone who posted for me on an earlier thread!!! I bought Adventures at the convention today and am super excited to get going with it. What an amazing family that runs and authors that organization.
  15. Kim, I must tell you I am impressed that you managed to get boys to lapbook at all my son would revolt. :) I wonder if you tried notebooking: summary paragraphs, and a sketch or picture from the internet if they might prefer that, or if they have had it, summary paragraphs and some outlining. Maybe have them do something large on a poster board or small in a shoe box. How about a skit or monolog to change things up?
  16. Thanks Donna, you have been super helpful. The Home School conference is here this weekend and MFW will be there, I am excited to see it. At the moment I am leaning towards Adventures and saving the ECC, then I will have a year to collect the items. I am hoping to find a used copy on the boards, or maybe just come home on Saturday with the whole shi-bang. :) Thanks again for all your help!!!
  17. I bought the 1st edition used, it was a bargain I could not pass up. It is not here yet, but I can't wait to see it. Any advice on using it? It sounds like I could really go either way and be fine, ECC or Adventures.
  18. Great input, again thank you so much. ECC and Adventures both sound really fun, it is hard to decided which way to go. My big two and my little one are so spead out keeping them on the same topic may not be terribly realistic. I bought a used TM for ECC last week so once I have it in my hands that may help. I find myself not wanting to pass on the Adventures as I have all the deluxe readers which I know she would love. That said, I also have the deluxe readers for ECC and I am sure she would like those as well. It seems to me that I herd someone say that the science in Adventures was more hands on does that sound right to you? I hope you will post your experiences with both, I would enjoy hearing how things are going for you.
  19. Thanks for getting back to me. :)
  20. Did you start with ECC, if so how did your younger ones like it? My daughter is 7 and 2nd grade next year. I was planning on doing adventures but got my hands on a ECC TM, not sure if I should save it or just go ahead with it next year. Might be best to go ahead with ECC and have her do the Ancients the following year which is where my older two will be starting the high school cycle. Although there does not appear to be much, if any overlap between the CtoG and the high school ancient history.
  21. Thanks Crystal! Now I am toying with doing ECC or Adventures, decisions, decisions....:)
  22. I just spoke with Pay Pal as a book I sold on the WTM board did not make it to where it was suppose to. The gal told me that if a personal payment is made the buyer is NOT entitled to a refund per Pay Pal policy. Morally, I suppose is a different question.
  23. Thanks for the clarification Donna. It sounds like one could go either way in terms of the edition. However, I am still undecided. Are the Story of the US and Exploring American History the same content?
