  1. We do a lot of that too Melissa, "Here, while I work with your little sister, you do this spelling app!" I actually have a little list of apps to do, "Do your grammar app, your spelling app, and your cursive practice app." We like app storybooks too :).
  2. Zaner-Bloser is really tried and true, it's a good choice :).
  3. You're right - check out the 'f' - pretty different, a bit more on the italics side of things I think, but rounder. I have to admit that I'm still intrigued...
  4. I think I might have to get this one!! http://bit.ly/ntyXqc ABD Joined up - it's phonics integrated cursive with advancing levels of difficulty, so it starts with single letters, but moves onto joined letters and then words!
  5. We use the Zaner Bloser Cursive one - http://bit.ly/pEKKl0 It works well on iPad2 in 2x mode. It is $1.99 and lets you have free choice of letter, upper case or lower case, includes videos showing stroke formation. It doesn't do connected letters either, but it is straight forward for learning the individual ones!
  6. And this weekend seems to be THE weekend of free math apps - I think I have....let me check - 7 - free math apps listed today, lots from McGraw Hill that are normally $1.99 each, and an ABC one too ;). http://www.facebook.com/AppsforHomeschooling
  7. It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day today... And I have a LOT of free and deeply discounted pirate-themed apps listed on our FB page, so do come over and check them out! http://www.facebook.com/AppsforHomeschooling
  8. I miss SL when I need to do anything that isn't SL! (Like for Canadian content - groan). Have you looked into 1+2? (B+C?) That's what I have next in our SL queue :).
  9. We use Math Rider – it is a one time fee (which makes if much more affordable than paying monthly or yearly) and it does practice of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division up to 12 in all the operations. We are very, very happy with it, and it is affordable. The thing I like best is the automatic tracking of which facts are mastered (it calculates a percentage for each operation), which ones need work, and how it automatically practices the facts that need the most practice until mastery is achieved. There is a 7-day free trial if you want to give it a spin: http://mathrider.com/partner/idevaffiliate.php?id=291_2 We had tried a LOT of different things for math facts, but this is the ONLY thing my daughter will do willingly :).
  10. It was actually in awesome shape Marie ;). I have been very happy with all of my used purchases from Amazon.ca - I always try for very good copies, and they have all been almost like new!
  11. You're welcome, I knew some of you here wouldn't want to miss out on free apps (and sometimes I just post good sales too)! Don't miss out on Bluster from McGraw Hill either if it's still free! Little Pim Spanish was free for me today when I downloaded it! You can either go through the links because they'll take you straight to the right page in iTunes or you can look it up yourself in iTunes - either way the price will be the same :). All of the downloads go through the App Store, I've just linked up to make it handy.
  12. Hi Fellow Homeschooling Moms! Lately I've been digging up all sorts of free educational apps (some that are normally paid apps), and I don't want to spam the forums out by listing every single one I find. SO, I DO post every single one I find on my facebook and twitter accounts - http://www.facebook.com/AppsforHomeschooling http://twitter.com/#!/AppsHomeschool There are QUITE a few this weekend, from early math, to foreign language, to some LA, fractions etc. And I post throughout the week too, basically whenever I find good freebies that would work for homeschooling families. Hope to have some of you app-loving homeschoolers join us there and get in on some good freebies :).
  13. That is a good price! I paid $10 all together for a hardcover from Amazon.ca - it was used, but that included shipping!
  14. Sometimes I find it's hard to get to as well, especially if we've had a break, but it does work SO well, and it isn't hard to do! I just 'mental block' sometimes. So I know what you mean!
  15. Looks like it would definitely come AFTER AAR Pre-1 Kristin :). I'm thinking about it after we're done. It jumps into the more complicated phonics pretty fast, so I'd do it AFTER.
  16. We don't use Saxon, but my daughter also totally melted down with any kind of timed math practice options I gave her. Freak. Out. We tried a few different things but finally found something that worked, it's a downloadable piece of software called Math Rider. There is a 7-day free trial if you want to give it a spin: http://mathrider.com/partner/idevaffiliate.php?id=291_2 We had tried a LOT of different things for math facts, but this is the ONLY thing my daughter will do willingly :).
  17. Apologia Astronomy. Ugh. Tried SO hard to like this. Bombed twice. Never finished.
  18. I agree that SL has the best progression of readers once reading is underway. Carefully chosen to build in difficulty and lead towards fluency while being totally engaging.
  19. Librivox.org Little Women - all time fave here for the whole family. Kids 8 months - 8 years.
  20. Presidents vs. Aliens is really cool - my DD is memorizing the faces of all the US presidents - and we're Canadian too! I haven't used KQ but they are designed with home-educators in mind so they're worth checking out for sure.
  21. My 8yo actually ASKS to teach it so she can use Ziggy - she can't bear not to be a part of it, it's so fun. As a bonus it is helping my 5yo not only with phonological skills but with her speech and language too :).
  22. http://appsforhomeschooling.com/2011/homeschool-app-giveaway-musical-me-ipad/ Two winners - one promo code each. Ends Sept 09th. Fun early music app, iPad :).
