  1. Bill, I know you use Singapore with MEP. I bought Standards Edition for 3A 3B after using US edition for the previous years. Do you use IP at all or CWP? I usually have IP and sometimes CWP. However, if I add MEP, then it will take too much time. So I am thinking what to do. I will drop IP to do MEP. What do you do, Bill? J
  2. Thanks for the idea and I will try to start it soon. By the way, when you use Singapore, do you use just the textbook/workbook, or do you also add IP or CWP? I am thinking of dropping IP because I want to free up some time to do MEP. What do you think?
  3. I like the way you do it, Bill. I don't think I have time to read all the lesson plans or incorporate them all. I will just pick and choose and do some and leave some out. Also, for the ones that are challenging, we will spend more time on. This is all in paper/talk, not in practice yet. I really like the way it makes my mind work. I will see how my kids like it. Thanks again, J
  4. There is a lot on the lesson plan part, several pages for one page of worksheet. How do you teach? Do you print it out or just read it on line and then do your teaching off line? It is easy just to print out the worksheet (or let ds do it online for the immediate feedback from 3a up) and hand it to the kid to do or do it together with him. I am still trying to figure this MEP teaching out. J
  5. I checked the Y2 and Y3 and found that some of it is above his level and some below. It is amazing that MEP introduces quotient and remainder in Y2, and the multiplication level is pretty advanced. So if I were to start to use it along with Singapore PM 3A, then what level should I start with? Younger ds is starting 1B. What MEP should I use for him? Do you use the online interactive worksheet? I tried it last night myself and got so addicted!!! I love that it checks the answer right there and if you are clueless, you can learn what they are looking for. So neat, fun, and challenging. There is not a dull moment:lol:
  6. I have a ds7.5 doing R & S English 3 and is doing fine and I would like to add some writing training for him. I also have a ds5.25 who is reading very fluently now at a 2nd grade level. So should I start WWE 2 with ds7 (his reading/comprehension level is excellent) if he never has done WWE 1 or should I start from 1? When can I start with younger? He is doing HWT Printing now. I am also interested in FLL 1 for younger ds. I have R&S English 2. Should I just wait a year and do R&S English 2 with him since I own it? J
  7. Which should I get, or should I get both? I want to start my ds7.5 with WWE. I wish I had started him earlier. I didn't know about WWE until recently. Please advice. J
  8. Ds7.5 is doing R&S English 3 and I am drawn to WWE because I would like him to be able to narrate about the books he reads and also puts on paper his thoughts. Is it overkill to do WWE with R&S English? Another question: If I replace R&S English with MCT LA, then do I need any writing program with it? I see people use IEW with MCT LA. Thanks, J
  9. I am thinking of starting TOG in a couple years down the road. Can I gather books now? I see that some books are for sale and they go pretty fast. It would be wonderful to buy all the books I need used from someone who has all the set for UG. That way when I start I won't be spending time worrying where to find the books. I hate to use the library just because I don't get things done if I don't get the books when I need them. Then after I am done with the set of books, I can always sell to the next mom in line. Do you do this? I am always drawn to TOG. I am sure I will use it when my ds5 is a better reader and I can spend more time than teaching to read.
  10. I tried a few times last night and today. I can't get it.
  11. After reading your responses and checking the For Sale forum, I've come to the conclusion that it is better to buy now than wait and if I end up not liking it, it seems to sell pretty well and fast here. I will post my and my ds's response to MCT LA island level after we use it for a while. J
  12. I have two ds and I would start the older ds7.5 with MCT with at least the vocab and poetry. However, I also would like to have the whole basic set just to see how it ties together. I am not ready to part with my R&S English yet. I might use a combo of the two like Cynthia does now to have the benefits of both. So my question is, if MCT LA is mostly non consumable, then can I just buy used for the sake of checking it out before long term committing? I am looking for the first level, Island. Do you buy yours new or used? My younger ds is 5.5 and can use it too when he is ready. Thanks, J
  13. Cynthia, Thanks for the quick response. So you use vocab and poetry along with R&S. I do like R&S. Maybe I can do what you do. I like to add vocab and poetry to my LA. J
  14. what made you switch? Do you miss anything about R&S English? What is the most obvious change it caused in your dc? I am using R&S English and like the concept of MCT LA I heard about on this forum. I don't know if I should switch. Please let me know the whys and whats. Thank you, J
  15. Hope to get it. Is it too late now? I am doing SL now but have been drooling over TOG for a while. How do we know who got it? J
  16. There are more than one book in one level. So how do you schedule all the books and how long does it take a day? Thanks! I am seriously considering switching from R&S English. I do like RS English, but I would like my ds to enjoy and be excited about LA and MCT seems to do that for a lot of people here. J
  17. We just came back from visiting my family in my home country China for 3 weeks. We are still getting over the jet lag. I miss China even more after I came back. We wish we could enjoy the cheap fresh eat out there and the clean fresh air here the same time:lol:. We need to get back to teaching in my house. Well, we are using Rod and Staff English 3. I have seen so much talk about MCT LA here that I read some posts and am really intrigued. While RS English works ok, ds is not excited about it. He does retain ok. I wonder if I should get MCT. If I switch to MCT, what do I need to buy? I see quite a few books for each grade. Am I right? I guess the cost is quite a few notches up than RS English. Please help me to decide. Ds is an avid reader and loves literature and always sings the Hobbit and Lord of the Ring poems. J
  18. We love it! My son is retaining a lot from it even though he doesn't like the writing part. He is doing English 3 by the way. He loves to take the test! I only bought the test booklet two weeks ago and he did the first one and looked forward to doing the second because he did very well for the first. I love the idea of getting a Rod and Staff tattoo even though I don't like tattoo in general. J:lol:
  19. Thanks for your wealth of information. I like the template you can create on line. I will probably take sentences from their read-alouds for copy work. I have let ds7 copy his memory verses. J
  20. I am interested in having ds do copywork. I wonder what you use. Please share. J
  21. :lurk5: I like the way you do it. If I want to do TOG, I will have to have the books ready for me on the shelf, used or new. Or it won't get done and I get frustrated and we won't be able to keep on. J
  22. are that I have to plan ahead what to get and if I can get them. It is too complicated and suppose I get sick or sidetracked with other things, then I have not enough time for the planning as well as reserving books and picking up and so on and so forth, then lessons will probably not get done as compared to when I have the books on my shelf. I am glad to hear some people do buy books. Right now I only need to check Sonlight 2 Readers advanced for my ds7 from the libraries and it is a CHORE that I don't look forward to. So I cannot imagine having to hunt down multiple books for more than one subjects for two kids. Are there used books as a set for sale? J
