  1. I know you're looking for a king mattress but hear me out: we went from a queen to a split king with separate adjustable bases and I have not slept this well since college. We have twin XL mattresses, separate fitted sheets, and a twin comforter with a duvet for each of us. We don't fight over sheets or blankets or pillows anymore. I bought a chilipad cooling system for my husband's mattress and now we both sleep much better. I would recommend a split king for anyone, really. It's easier to rearrange the room, flip the mattresses (or even replace them--if one mattress choice isn't working out, you can give away a twin XL very quickly), and even make the bed. You could even get two mattresses of different materials or firmness. The only thing I miss is that we just have the mattresses on the adjustable base and haven't chosen a headboard. We really don't care, we're not fancy people, but it would look nicer with a tall headboard.
  2. For some reason, over the last few years I've fallen into watching dashcam clips online. DS18, who just got his license, would watch them with me and I could stop/rewind/discuss them...and pause them to ask him what he thinks the driver should have done at that moment. And I think he's also learned to be more aware of identifying distracted drivers due to these clips. Seeing how some of those cars get dinged was eye-opening for us both!! And it does help that my son didn't actually get interested in driving until he was 16, and I've purposely dragged it out as much as possible. I feel much more confident in his driving and thought process at 18 than I would have at 16. I'm not ready for him to travel alone on the interstates (70+ mph)...will I ever be ready for that?!? Good luck!!
  3. After insurance was pre-processed, the oral surgeon we used was offering us appointments within a few days. That was with recent x-rays and a referral from ortho. We showed up at 9am, surgery was 9:45ish, and we were headed to the pharmacy by 10:30 I think. It was very fast. They sent us home with a schedule of what to expect and when and it was pretty accurate. This was with 3 teeth that hadn't erupted yet but were causing jaw pain...so she did save us some $$$ by only being born with 3 wisdom teeth lol. Recovery was pretty smooth, we did overlap ibuprofen and tylenol instead of using the hydrocodone prescribed (we just didn't want to go down that road with heavy duty meds). DD20 was on the sofa for 2 days and probably her worst moments were when she slept through/skipped a pain med dose. She had hers out on a Wednesday and felt well enough to work at her desk job on the following Tuesday. She was still swollen, her bruises had faded to yellow by then. No problems whatsoever, she could even wear her clear retainers within 48 hours. She was actually hungry so was willing to try firmer foods quite quickly.
  4. We've mostly had Dysons but after trying my mom's Shark, we switched to those over the last year (one upstairs and one downstairs). Sharks are lighter and it's just easier to access the roller bar to unclog things. Also, what my two teen daughters do is use a carpet rake before vacuuming their rooms where they'd shed the most. And I'm getting on them about emptying the bin and the roller bar after each use. We also program a vacuum-only Roomba for a daily run on the main level (mostly tile and short pile area rugs) to clean up after our 3 shorthair dogs.
  5. DD19 just got hers removed a few weeks ago. She decided to go with an oral surgeon, she did not want to be awake for ANY of it. Our out of pocket was about 1/4 of the entire cost. She had gotten her braces off at Christmas '21 and we really didn't want wisdom teeth to force any shifting after 2 years of ortho..and she was having some pain in both sides of her lower jaw as well. The actual procedure was very fast, maybe 35 minutes from IV placed to when they wheeled her out. The oral surgeon sent us home with printed prescriptions for ibuprofen 600, amox antibiotic, and 18 count hydrocodone (!!!). We alternated the ibuprofen and 1000mg tylenol for the first 3 days and totally skipped introducing the hydrocodone (need to find an unused drug drop off for that!!). Used ice packs the first 24 hours and then warm packs after that (Amazon sells these head wrap things that hold the packs on the cheeks). Her pain was average, she was able to sleep through the night without any discomfort but did sleep through the 2nd night completely and woke up sore b/c she had missed a dose. Bruising within the first 48 hours, looked like a goatee on either side of her mouth but she healed so quickly. The bruising faded to nothing within 5 days (so jealous!!). No problems with dry sockets, the doctor sent her home with this syringe of something called Sock-it (?) and it's a clove-based ointment to shoot into each socket 4-5 times a day. I think that really helped. DD is very happy she got it done, she had been having some pain even before she got her braces off. Personally, I had my wisdom teeth removed before age 22 due solely to the fact that I was soon to be off my parents' dental insurance. DD bounced back faster than I remember healing.
  6. I was intrigued with the voice of Dr. J Vernon McGee and found the Through the Bible app so I've been doing the 5 year Bible Bus plan. Because I have to write everything down to remember it, I have turned into a student and I take notes as I listen (sometimes it turns into doodling or playing around with scripty font but I am still listening). He reminds me so much of my grandma (same generation), maybe that's why I listened in the first place. Everything was recorded pre-1980 (? not sure of firm dates) so there are references to hippies which make me laugh, but there is a lot of good information included in his recordings. Things haven't changed too much when it comes to sin! I intend to do the 5 year study of the entire Bible with him, I'm in Romans right now and I've always been very intimidated by that book (seems like PURE theology, no parables or action to comfort the distracted Christian like me). I'm trying to remember my goal is wisdom, not just knowledge (wow that sounds pretentious, but I don't feel it's useful to just memorize the kings of Judah for example and call that Bible study). There are some listeners that have done this 5 year plan for decades, so I hope that each time I listen I'll gain something new. What Dr. McGee offers is very meaty, and I do have to listen to a broadcast more than once because I just don't get it (Romans!! lol). He teaches from the KJV, so I have my grandma's KJV and a NIV study Bible right next to me for additional maps/notes. Hope you find what you seek!
  7. I didn't read the other responses, but I felt the same way as the OP about my most recent Dyson vacuum. It's not an Animal model, but it is too light/plasticky, doesn't lock upright easily (falls down as you walk away), and the stretchy hose is just not convenient to use compared to a 10 year old Dyson we had. With 3 long haired kids and 3 short haired dogs, I realized I had some really strong feelings about this Dyson so I bought 2 Shark vacuums from Costco... one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I think they' are both called Duo something. So far I'm pretty happy with them, I like the dual brushes and the lift-away option..I like the suction control on the handle and I think they're quieter than Dyson. Shark also seems to make it easier to take apart the brush/roll assembly to unclog things, and filter access is simpler as well. I don't vacuum MORE now with these vacuums but it is much less of a hassle to drag it out to get it done. Shark duo something
  8. Two wood storks! They were very close together, soaring at high altitude, and the sky was clear blue. They're much prettier at a distance!
  9. We have a fenced yard in a newer community. My goal for this yard was to be able to walk barefoot if I wanted to (since we pay for lawn service and follow their suggested watering schedule). So I bought a combo treat/poop bag pouch that hooks on the waist of my pants and I go out with our 3 dogs (2 small, one about 50 lbs) every single time. They poop, I bag it, water it in with a gallon of water if it's still nasty, then throw the bag into the garage garbage can (then bag it into the curbside bin every 3 or 4 days). My kids hate that they have to accompany the dogs to bag it up, but having someone out there does keep the dogs from digging or barking. We don't have a fancy yard but it is nice, and it doesn't smell like poop when it rains. (A friend of mine with a small dog and a small yard has this problem, it's difficult to enjoy her lovely patio because the humidity makes the smell extra thick!)
  10. I vote for fix the pocket door. I would LOVE to have more pocket doors in my house, especially in our master bath which has 2 master closets, a toilet closet, and a linen closet all with regular swing doors. Pocket doors are just brilliant in my book.
  11. I also gave a 3 month subscription to my daughter for Christmas, who loves art and isn't afraid of making mistakes or getting messy. She has done about 1/2 the projects in the kits and they've turned out well...I'm always so impressed since my own artistic talent is lacking. She does get annoyed with the videos, all of them have started off with 2 ladies giving instructions and chitchat and it's quite relaxing and calming. Then the guy doing the video/tech pipes up with his opinion, or weird interjections and it throws off the whole vibe. His voice is quite loud since he's closest to the video equipment and it's jarring. Just our opinion, though 😉 Anyway, Quill, those are some lovely citrus you've painted! Go get a frame and hang them up, they look like they'd brighten up any room!
