  1. This is helpful to know. Were you able to follow assignments just watching the SWI-A, or do you feel TWSS would have helped you understand the assignments better? Thanks for commenting.
  2. I am interested in purchasing IEW TWSS to help my boys (going into 6th and 8th grades)with organizing their thoughts, writing outlines, and writing papers. Would I also need to purchase the SWIC-B, or is that a supplement where Andrew explains the assignment? Is it possible to use just SWIC and not buy the TWSS? I do think my boys would do better listening to someone other than me, at least for writing (I can do math and science easily, but writing isn't my strong point!) I just want to learn the tools so writing is not such a chore or challenge for them. TIA for your input/advice!:D
  3. When I have greasy stains or tomato stains, I rub Dawn dishwashing liquid into the stain (and sometimes Resolve or some stain remover) and then wash in as hot of water as the clothes can stand. Hope that helps!!
  4. One of my friends was told her first baby was a girl...and HE ended up coming home from the hospital in pink clothes because that was all she had for the baby....the next pregnancy she was again told it was a girl, but this time she had both pink and blue outfits in her hospital bag, and HE came home in blue. :001_smile:
  5. I'm so glad I saw this...I'm trying to plan the big picture, and this is much needed advice! I'm planning for 5th and 7th graders right now. :) Thanks for posting, Janice!
  6. I just bought it and am trying to finalize my choices for next year...wish I would have read it two years ago! Better late than never. :)
  7. THAT is funny!!! (and I shall be there soon with my two boys....arghhhhh!) =D
  8. The state schools in Texas are pretty affordable...my husband went to one and all four years together were under $100k. Don't know if that is an option, but it's worth researching. There are six, I believe. (A&M, Tech, UT Southwestern, UTMB, UT Houston, UTHSCA San Antonio). Another thing to consider is what kind of student loans are available at the particular schools...I think some may not have subsidized loans available (if that matters). As far as getting a residency...part of it is just luck of the draw (as it is for everyone) and part of it is how well you come across in board scores and ranking. It would be easier to get placed in a primary care position, but not *impossible* for more competitive residencies.
  9. That IS cool! I was just looking for a book to teach my boys how to diagram sentences. I was in 8th grade when I FINALLY learned grammar by diagramming sentences. My grandmother was an high school English teacher that couldn't understand my confusion, but was so happy when I "got" it.
  10. I'm so glad you asked this question...I am going to pass on the replies to my 10 and 12 year old sons! We were just having this talk this morning. This will probably be their expression...:001_huh:
  11. I don't think a smoothie made at night would be good the next morning. Most of the ones I have made have started separating within the hour, but that's just my experience. =) I have seen plastic containers for protein shakes that have a little metal spring-type ball in them to help break up the clumps of powder when it's shaken (less noisy than a blender). There are so many flavors and kinds of mixes available, maybe you could find one he likes (that is good for him). I'm just going to throw this out there since it worked well for my father-in-law, another thing he could try for the cholesterol is Fish oil capsules. His internal medicine doc had him add two 1200mg capsules a day (along with his regular dose of medicines) instead of increasing his prescription dose, and it dropped his cholesterol to normal range (another doc suggested the same thing to my friend's husband). We bought a twin pack at Sam's of Enteric Coated (no fish burps) and we all take them for the Omega3s. They were probably around $20 for two 150-count bottles. HTH~
  12. :iagree: with WSS, and I'm from Central Texas. Actually, I'm sitting here saying quartz over and over to see if I pronounce the /kw/, and I think I might. I have heard a few people say quarter with the /kw/, but not often.
  13. My hubby and I both use Dove...works great! We get the fresh scent from Sam's...not to girly or manly smelling. ;)
