  1. A 3 mile run this morning, followed by upperbody work (kettlebell, push-ups, pull-ups).  My hamstring is still sore, and I'm wondering if I'll have to take time off from running. :(

It's been a rough morning.  My dd, who is 16, takes 2 classes at a community college which is an hour away.  There was a wreck, shutting down the highway.  Now she is wandering the back roads of TN, trying to get to OR.  We've been wanting to get her a smartphone, but she had wanted an Apple, and since the new one comes out later this month, we've waited.  But that means she has no GPS, no map, and she's a bit freaked out, as am I.  Blah, this is going to be a bad day all around.

I may have a hard time working out tomorrow because I could be hungover.  :glare:

  2. My yoga pants are from Athleta, and they are very comfortable.  I would wear only those once it was cool enough, if I could afford enough pairs.  My dd has a pair from Gap.  The Gap one are really nice too, close to Athleta (and they are owned by the same company).  With Gap you can get them when they are on sale and they are a great price.  She likes them because the inseam is long enough (we got tall).  She hates it when her pants are too short.

  3. I finished listening to A Signature of All Things.  I did enjoy listening to it, there were beautiful descriptions, but the story was lacking.  There wasn't really a plot, just Alma's life.

Today I started listening to A Life After Life.  I ran for 2 1/2 hrs, so I got a good start on it.  It's a bit hard to follow, I can't allow my mind to drift at all.

I've also been reading The Pearl That Broke it's Shell.  It's a very sad book so far.  I spent an hour reading at a Starbucks this week, and if I wasn't in public I would have cried.

  4. I swear "homeschool convention" is now code for "puritan revival" with ole Scottie Brown and Geoffrey Botkin stting around bemoaning the fact that our corrupt government won't allow them to burn a tatooed female at the stake. DP and company will of course be there in period garb to re-enact the Salem Witch Trials.

    Sigh......

    :smilielol5:  :smilielol5:

With that amusing thought, I'm heading out for a run, but not in yoga pants, it's too hot.

  5. Yoga today.  I did an Astanga practice, and it felt so good to do all of those vinyasas.  I was supposed to run and do kettlebell, but I seem to have injured my hamstring with yesterday's hill repeats, so I decided to take the day off from the harder stuff.  The yoga was good.  I also had a nice yoga practice last night, to stretch out my hips and hamstrings.

  6. Kettle bell and MMA and the 2 mike slow stroll.

You kettle bell people- arghhhhh!&$!&$@!- will I ever get better? It's so odd feeling, and I am soooooo sore. That the soreness is in the right places is my only comfort- well Aleve is my other comfort.

Whenever I take a couple of weeks off from kettlebell and then restart the soreness comes back.  I think that's the nature of weights in general.  You do get better, but it takes time.  And at least it's a good sore.

  7. I've returned make-up, it's why I buy from Sephora, because I know they will take it back if I don't like it.  I feel like that in the end I save money, since often when I buy cheaper stuff if I don't like it I trash it.  I haven't shopped much at Ulta, it's far away, but I would not hesitate to take use their return policy. They are building their business on good customer service.

  8. Sephora.  I tired Clinique with my second dd, but it didn't go well.  Sephora has always been great.  Even with my first, when we went the woman who did the lesson/makeover was older (60's??) and had on way, way, way too much make-up which made up nervous.  But in the end she did an excellent job, didn't push products, and made my dd feel pretty without much make-up at all.  She kept stressing how the young don't need much make-up. :D

Sephora now requires that you spend $50 for a complete makeover session, but that is easy to do there.

  9. I hope this sickness doesn't hit my area!  My dd, in college, said something bad is going around there.  Yuck.  I don't have time for illness. :P

Mommyfaithe, I hope your quad is better soon!  I hate when injury keeps me from running.

Today was a 5.5 mile run, with three 1 mile repeats, and I nailed my tempo pace (which is only 10:00 per mile, but good for me. :) )  I then did 20 minutes of yoga.

  10. Eliana, your grand-daughter is beautiful, and I love the shot of your kids.  It looks like it was a fun day.

This weekend I read Sharp Objects, by Gillian Flynn.  It was a quick, fun read, a perfect book to read after the more heady Murakami. It wasn't as good as Gone Girl, but it was still fun.  It was her first novel, and it was not as polished.  I felt like I had it figured out by half way through, and some of her characterization of people in the small town felt as if it was written by someone on the Jezebel site (a Gawker owned feminist online mag). But it was still fasinating, and her writing is good.

  11. Sunday I ran 10 miles.  I had to drive to the city during the afternoon. I had planned to come home and do a nice Yin practice, but competing with that was me wanting to finish the mystery novel I had started the day before. A glass of wine and book won out. :D  I did get up this morning and have a lovely 30 minute vinyassa practice.
