I've lived in both. Either would be fine although I have a preference for Bentonville. That area is seriously booming right now and dh, who grew up in Bentonville, hardly recognizes it every time we go back to visit. Bentonville especially has done a lot of city improvements (art museum, children's museum, splash park, trails) and I'd personally choose that over the more college feel of Fayetteville. Anymore, though, Fayetteville to Bentonville is more like one continuous city, so any of it would be great.

Thanks.  My feel after a whirlwind tour with a real estate agent -

Fayetteville - 30-40 minutes from Bentonville.  It is the largest city in the area and home to the university. Downtown area is walkable although closest neighborhoods lack continuous sidewalks (per real estate agent, the city is working on this).  Bike path connects some neighborhoods to public library and downtown.  Hilly.  Many restaurants and theaters.  The public libary is large.  It does not have branches and does not particpate in a consortium.  It does offer interlibrary loan for a fee.  Grocery stores seem to be on the edges of the city.  Other than the library and a large park,  I did not get a good feel for the location of tween/teen or homeschool activities.

Bentonville - smaller than Fayetteville, but larger than our current city.  Downtown area is walkable. We didn't drive through many residential areas, so I don't know about the sidewalk situation.  Many bike paths.  Several museums including a free art museum.  Smaller public library. Again no branches or consortium, although a friendly librarian told me residents could get free library cards for the Fayetteville Public Library.  Interlibrary loan is available for a fee.   The library, art museum, and rec center offer homeschool classes.  Housing prices in the downtown area are higher than in Fayetteville and both are higher than in our current location.

We had initially thought we'd choose Fayetteville.  But, our visit left us with the impression that Bentonville had more to offer homeschool families.  It would also be a shorter commute for dh.  But, as I said it was a whirlwind tour.

I'm just now seeing this. I've lived in both. There is a very different vibe between the two towns. Fayetteville is largely influenced by the presence of the university and is the more liberal and eclectic of the two, Bentonville is largely influenced by the presence of Walmart and is the more conservative of the two. These descriptions apply to political, religious, and homeschooling mindsets.

If your Dh is going to work in Bentonville, I would choose to live in Bentonville or Rogers. The work commute from Fayetteville to Bentonville is not fun. That said, I think the prices of real estate are inflated in Bentonville now, particularly downtown. I think the Fayetteville real estate market is more stable given the presence of the university. Walmart has a trickle down effect on Bentonville's economy.

Feel free to PM me for more info - I've been in the area 23+ years.

I dont live in Fayetteville area, but go there often as we live an hour and half away. If your husband is going to work in Bentonville, I would find a house in that area. I have drove from Fayetteville to Rogers during high traffic times and wouldnt want to go from Fayetteville to Bentonville ever day.
